  • Schweet tone all around !!!

  • In getting together "Zappa Plays Zappa", Dweezil went from "good" guitarist to "great" guitarist.

  • Whos the beavis that dislikes ! Gaga fan ?

  • I think Jimi Hendriks would have loved the Floyd Rose bridge

  • Sorry, I love Eddie, but he isn't in the same league

  • PORN!

  • I believe the Stuff that he plays from 2 : 11 until 2 : 36 takes some serious skill

on the Instrument only Dweezil and Eric Johnson and Paul Gilbert could play stuff

    like that

  • epic

  • you know honestly for the first minute i thought it was kind of boring then at 1:27 onward, holy fuck.....those bends are godlike

  • @MjXllcommando

Well thankfully you didnt klick the video off at 1 : 23 or something

also check Dweezils Inca Roads Solos they are always great

  • It's called, "The Torture Never Stops" not just "Torture."

  • MY GOD THAT TONE

  • OH my god 1:55

  • why cant you put the whole song up there !!1

  • It doesn't matter which way the neck is if you have a locking nut. It's just done for looks.

  • Smart move flipping the neck. The length of the string effects the tone in a certain way, I find.

  • this just gives me the chills... this is what guitar playing is all about, in it's rawest and meaningfull condition.

  • continuity of his solo is nice

  • shows that if youve got the money you really can get a guitar sound that doesent get boring a week later

  • You can clearly hear His dads Spirit floating through his Finger from 1 : 32 to the

    End

And a little Steve Vai 1992 here and there

Aahh Dweezil thank you thank you thank you for giving me the Chance to experience your Fathers music live

  • This is the result of pure dedication. Dweezil had to plow through tons of old FZ rare gear, talk with old band members and tinker for days to get that incredible tone! And that isn't counting the time it took to master the intricacies of the licks When I first heard ZPZ I was literally entranced! IR, Montana, TNS, Son of OC and more all just scream... just wish it'd been a 18 min version of Black Napkins... my all time favorite - along with Maggot Brain! (wth - who could dislike this?)

  • Dweezil, so much soul, respect!

  • Ehm...the song is "The Torture never Stops"...not "Torture"...

  • god damn that rig sounds good.

  • good guitar

  • yeah sounds too mch like david gilmore,

  • @bongo2209

sounds like zappa, a little like gilmour but it sounds like straight dweezil

  • Great stuff! Yeah, I read about the Hendrix guitar in Guitar Player magazine in an issue dedicated to Frank (must have been 1992 or so, when it was dawning on people where things where going). In that issue there are interviews with each of the Zappa offspring, and Dweezil spoke of the guitar and rescuing it from under the stairs.

  • WHAT A GREAT STRAT SOUND!!!! WHAT KIND OF STRAT AND PICKUPS?

  • @Stefandurr lol so your saying the reason he is more famous is because he has a fan to blow his hair.

  • Comment removed

  • I'm not sure but sometimes it looks like Dweezil might have six fingers on his left hand...

  • @Stefandurr

I can't say the same about many other guitarists...

  • it must be in their genes.....

  • if it werent for the video i'd have sworn this was frank

  • @Stefandurr

    Thought so! :D

  • is this a Fendre Strat? I cannot read on the head.

  • Dweezil is an amazing guitar player, I wonder why he never became as popular as Vai...

  • Dang!, at 2:39 i wish that was my pedalboard lol

  • hot stuff

  • If I were to present something of my planet to an off worldly sentient being...this is what I would show them. This is my generations understanding of science, poetry, and music, and string theory and time, and beauty, all in one video. It would do.

  • KILLER tone

  • I hear a lot of Pink Floyds' David Gilmour in this tune! This tune could have just came of the "Animals" album. It's savage but poetical. Love it!

  • the torture never stops, it is so cool!! will certently look for more with young Zappa!

  • shame it's only 2 1/2 minutes, i could groove to this for a while!

  • frank would be proud!

  • What is this song?! I can't find it anywhere on the internet... someone help please!

  • the torture never stops ! by frank zappa .. this is his son dwezal playing a mighty fine version of it !!!

  • i just met dweezil after a show a couple hours ago, he was so cool, amazing show

  • That was damn pretty!

  • das troo

  • sounds a bit like pink floyd, sick solo

  • love this solo the whole dvd is very good

  • is it just me or is that baker street by gerry rafferty starting at 1.07

  • Nice. Its too bad that he can`t stand out on that stage and exchange licks with his dad.

  • i agree. All the good ones die before their time... eddie van halen is lucky to be around if we are honest.

What a fantastic guy Dweezil is; credit to him for upholding everything that made Frank Frank: from the skill right down to the wit, humour and outstanding creativity. Awesome.

  • Well said. I was lucky enough to see Frank in 75,he was one of a kind and so sad to see him suffer the way that he did. I would enjoy seeing Dweezil if I ever get the chance. Peace

  • you are lucky... i missed out by a generation.

If only time could be turned ehh

  • Cah-risp Strat tone...shades of Knopfler and Gilmour...

  • awesome hes such a great musician just like his dad

  • Great Band ... another top solo from THE DWEEZ!

  • simply extraordinary guitar playing here by dweezil!

    arf!

  • Dweezil is great

  • 1:07 sounds like Baker Street. Cool song, Dweezil and co are pretty amazing. This dvd is awesome.

  • Sorry girls, the guitar is useless without the soul and intuition and dedication of the player.

You could put EVH's one of a kind zillion bazillion guitar in the hands of a lifelong alcoholic street grocery cart man and what would you have?

  • What she said.

  • Who's to say the lifelong alcoholic street grocery cart man isn't a guitar virtuoso?

  • You're absolutely right on that.

I just meant, for instance, that I've been playing guitars for forty years, pretty much put myself through college in the late seventies, playing bass in wedding bands two and three nights per week, wearing the ruffled shirts and bigass velvet bow ties and EVH Fender Frankie for $25,000 would only make me sound like me.

  • @mavis41558 Sound smarter. Let the guitar speak

  • @mavis41558

Wrong - it would make you sound like you playing a good fucking guitar.

  • @mavis41558

yeah but it sure is nice to have a nice tone to work with. In fact there area lot of nuances things i do now that I didn't do 15 years ago. Good gear really facilitates that shit. The other thing about Mexican Strats, and EpI Les Pauls, is when kids try to turn them up for a gig. The electronics are always shitty, and have fucked up, tone-robbing compression, etc, but they don't hear it until the run some gain through it.

  • for some people it might lower inhibitions that block creativity, but it doesn't make somebody creative

  • @mavis41558 You'd have been a lifelong alcoholic with a guitar-- just like Eddie!

  • @mavis41558 You would Have Eddie Van Halen lol

  • @mavis41558 probably something more interesting to listen to than van halen

  • @mavis41558

soul doesn't come only from lack of speed.

it's the feeling when you play, then you know, if you play with soul.

if you play fast, it can still be soulful, if the player feels so.

and the whole debate on youtube is redicilous. how can we decide, whether someone plays with soul or not?

    we can't.

  • @mavis41558 did you see the footage of EVH at NAMM 2003? thats practically what he was at that point lol.

  • fuckin' great

  • Very nice sounding indeed! Dweezil can really groove! I just LOVE IT!

  • Fender OWNZ!@##!@

  • When my time machine will be finished I will go directly to FZ concert Frankfurt 1976

  • can i come with you ?

  • me too !!!

  • his drive channel sounds like satch

  • is that jimi hendrix's giitar brought back from the burning?

  • No.

  • True,.but he did get the gift of Hendrix burned guitar from Frank. It sold at for over 1 million, said to be the most ever paid for a guitar. Hope he put that money to good use. I think he donated it. Frank taught him well. I saw Frank in Frankfurt in 1976 .His face was all over the place. Big posters and the movie King Kong was being advertised @ same time, I saw Zappa's face beside King Kong statues. He played King Kong that night...I think it was the first time he played it in concert.

  • Comment removed

  • this is dweezil zappa, franks son. hes not dead

  • That would've been really cool, but the "Live at the BBC" videos were certainly recorded prior to 1976, and King Kong is the first song they play on that.

  • @boworl The Hendrix guitar was not sold at auction. It did not reach the minimum price asked. Dweezil still has the guitar in the URMK. You can see it on his personal website.

  • @QtommyQ

Thanks for that info...Yeah...I hope to see Zappa Plays Zappa soon

  • he actually playes alot like Frank

  • he was taught by the man himself

  • and he also was tought by eddie van halen.

  • Comment removed

  • i didnt know he still owned it. did he buy it back or did he never sell it off?

  • Yup, this looks nothing like the Hendrix guitar, which was all burned up and cool-looking (wonder how it plays, though). Clearly, Dweezil flipped this around for "looks" or something, which is kind of silly. He has tons of guitars and can afford a ton more; certainly no need for a righty to flip a lefty guitar over to play backwards if you're Dweezil other than looks.

  • It ain't a lefty guitar though - just a lefty neck, isn't it!

  • Yeah, weird.

  • Lower string tension on the higher ones though with a reversed neck...thus easier for solo-ing, in theory...

  • i doesn't make a difference with a locking nut though.

  • I think its just because it looks cool.

And for the record, that is the best dive bomb EVER

  • i thought the same thing. so good.

  • When Dweezil found the hendrix guitar remains under the stairs he asked Frank if he could fix it. Frank said yes and dweezil fixed the guitar. Frank had no hand in fixing the guitar. The hendrix guitar does not have a floyd and was kept with the burned paint finish. And not to mention Dweezil auctioned off the guitar before this video was even shot. Ericclapton24000 watch some dweezil interviews and get your facts right before saying you know more about rock than somebody else

  • dweezil still owns the hendrix guitar.

  • why is dweezil still owns the hendrix guitar a poor comment ?

  • @westonmember - Frank did rebuild the Hendrix guitar after it was given to him by Hendrix's guitar tech. The guitar has had several different configurations over the years, You are correct that Dweezil found the guitar some years later but it was in pieces at the time. He put the guitar back together and gave it to Frank. Some time later Frank gave it back to Dweezil.

  • @QtommyQ Not quite right - Frank was given the Hendrix guitar, but he put it under the stairs, where it lived in pieces until Dweezil found it one day. Frank said to Dweezil if he fixed it up, he could have it. Dweezil talks about in this interview: w w w dot youtube dot com/ watch?v=jRXnPcIK1V8

  • @seemeel Hey Seemeel. I thought the same thing for a long time too until I start seeing old pictures of Frank playing the Hendrix guitar and he was on the cover of Guitar player magazine with it. Dweezil has his own website where he talks about this guitar - hopefully this link goes through -

If the link doesn't go through, I'll send it to you.

  • This is not the hendrix guitar. 1st off it was Dweezil who fixed the guitar when he found under the stairs in there house. He asked frank if he could fix it up and he did so frank let him keep it. Secondly the strat does not have a floyd rose and it was kept with the burned paint finish and was auctioned off before this video was even tape. So no offense ericclapton24000 but that is not the hendrix guitar. watch some of dweezils interviews and get your facts right dude

  • Exactly right, Westonmember. But your spelling is unforgivable. There when you mean Their? C'mon, dude. That's just lame.

  • sorry dude, i'll agree with you that i have horrible spelling lol

  • You're right. Single coil in the rear.

  • If it had 24 frets and still had that Floyd Rose original it would be the first Strat I would ever consider buying.

  • It's Hendrix's!

  • it's mine i bought it off dweezil.

  • they are custom tom anderson pickups.

single coils which are not sealed units like typical single coils you can see the ribbon around the coil like on a humbucker, they are great sounding pickups

  • Dweezil is a dear friend and a brilliant player!!!

  • Best by far i dont care wht ne1 says

  • Floyd Rose - check. Bridge humbucker - look again; I think not. All singles my friend.....

  • I am not saying he is playing with one, but they do stack humbuckers now and they look like single coils.

  • great playing

does anyone know what concert this is from?

  • its on the zpz dvd disc 1

  • That's a Fender Strat, with a reverse headstock, a bridge humbucker and a Floyd Rose. RAD!

  • fuck yeah

  • It belonged to Hendrix!

  • Not that one.

  • hendrix was left-handed and played a regular right-handed guitar - so it just looked like a reversed headstock - this is not hendrix' axe

  • No really? No fucking shit he was left handed! I have an article in a Guitar & Bass Mag Issue, and iut clearly states that Hendrix burnt it on stage, left it for the next prefromer who just happened to be Frank Zappa. Frank brought it home, fixed it-up and remodled it, reversed the neck and Dweezil now owns it! Trust me! i know more about rock than you probably do man! No offense.

  • Ok, I have an interview with him, and what you're saying is true, except that this isn't the same guitar. Dweezil clearly states that he doesn't tour with any of his dad's old guitars. This is just a strat that he owns.

  • *Nm! It did first belong to Zappa, but he doesn't own it any more!

  • ZAPPA by name ZAPPA by nature! i could get lost in this tune!

  • I could listen to that jam for hours.

  • this is good shit!

  • hey dweezil please call keneally or cuccurullo to play the really hard zappa stuff, they have the really sensitive frank´s music.. peace!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What happened to the full version of Torture never stops with this band? Has it been pulled or am I just missing it? Its great

  • he is really a good guitarist

he knows what he is doing

    not everybody does..

  • god i wish i was a zappa because they are natural kickass guitarists

  • this to me is prove that Dweezil Zappa can play.

  • i honestly think dweezil is a better soloist than his dad.

  • Frank and Dweezil come from two completely different styles from two completely different eras. Dweezil was influenced by people like Edward van Halen and Steve Vai where Frank was more blues based. To incredible performers as far as i am concerned.

  • you're right of course i should have added 'imho' or 'to my ear' or whatever.

  • My comments weren't meant to dismiss what you were saying, and I apologize if it came across this way. I will say that Dweezil has changed his entire style of playing to learn his father's music over the past three years. I have seen Dweezil play live a few times and met him once. I was fortunate to catch the ZPZ show here in Dublin Ireland in June 2006. The man standing on the stage was without question 'his father's son'.

  • yeah you're right. Dweezil is great when he plays like this . . . rather than what isn't " meant to be played on guitar." I dont really like hearing st alfonzo's on guitar, I prefer the mallets.

  • @QtommyQ Great point man. For Dweez to have mastered his father's music makes him one of the most diverse guitar players in OUR time. I am so grateful to have met him as well as see him play live several times.

  • I used to hate Dweezil's playing a few years ago. He has come a long way. This playing is great in every respect.

The band needs a little credit too. I caught the Zappa Plays Zappa show a year and a half ago. It exceeded my expectations.

Dweezil seems to have learned a thing or two from Frank over the years. We could ALL learn from Frank!

  • Its amazing how much gain he gets. I wonder how he gets that much gain

  • thats not even that much gain. all you need to do is crank the preamp and have the power amp pretty loud(im talking about a good tube amp) that'll get plenty of gain. otherwise add a boost or OD pedal ontop of it. But that really isnt that much gain that he's using.

  • i actually bought that guitar from dweezil zappa and it is very very nice indeed.

it has a floyd rose and they are custom tom anderson pickups and it plays like a dream.

  • if your not lying just trying to be cool, thats amazing, i'd buy it off you if you wanted

  • if you want pictures of me with that guitar i'll send em to you if you don't believe me.

  • that is really amazing if you did get that guitar. its the coolest strat ive ever seen, really. do u know where dweezil got it? like the fender custom shop or somthing?

  • yeah straight up i own that guitar it is ace.

dweezil probably had it custom made i don't know who by it plays great and sounds awesome.

  • tasteful phrasing & tone. it's cool when he kicks the overdrive in & goes for it

  • This is so badass! I remember seeing this video on the Zappa site, I thought it was just a Fender Strat Copy, now I see that its a custom and actually says "Zappa" where it would usually say Fender. Cant wait to see ZPZ at Summerfest!

  • is he zappa's son???

  • ya he is frank zappas son

  • Anyone know how his guitar has been customised?

  • it looks like it. the bridge looks like a floyd rose.

  • i dont think its a floyd rose

it sorta looks like the american standard tremolo on steroids but it certainly dosnt look like a floyd

  • It looks exactly like a Floyd Rose.

Because it is a Floyd Rose.

  • reverse headstock, Original Floyd Rose, noiseless single coil pickups?

  • Fender should make a vintage like strat or tele, with a floyd rose setup. I think it would be perfect! Dweezil's guitar is just bitchin.

  • that guitar work was so effective and fully made the mood of the song.

  • Sweeet

  • Supah Sweet dude.
