turbo lag doesn't apply to all out drag cars like top fuelers. they run high rpm down the whole track. i'd imagine it has a lot to do with the piping, and more importantly the temperature of burning nitromethane. (over 7000 degrees) since nitro burns so slowly, it's still burning violently after it exits the chamber. i'm pretty sure that would melt any turbo like butter. the rules also specify a 14-71 blower, nothing else.

your wrong turbo charger impellers along with properlly fitted housings can sustain tempreatures that exceed 10000 degrees your also forgetting that the velocity that the impeller shafts are turning creat an access of 1000 degrees along...im sure the compressor housings along with exhaust hosing on most race application turbo chargers are able to sustain these types of temps...by the way im a 9 year automotive/diesel technician...

either way, the turbo would inevitably have to sustain pressures and temperatures that the blower never has to endure. it's undoubtably easier to run a supercharger. perhaps exotic materials/coatings in turbos can sustain those temps, but how would we keep it lubricated under those conditions? if turbo's were practical with nitromethane, they'd probably at least exist somewhere. so far, i haven't heard of any. if they do exist, enlighten me. i'd like to read up on it.

if unsure check out the prototype nitro methane 4 cylinder that is running a twin turbocharger system,producing around 4000 bhp...read up on internal tephlone coating im sure youve heard of it...its a basic compound that is used for high temp aplications most holsets and deers along with cat turbos use this material...
