dunno about you but I asked a contractor, pvc is 50psi water pipe. what schedule is it, pvc is rated 500 psi for half inch.. 2 to 5 inch is 250psi.. and its much worst after that,

Anyway, the charts I'm reading off engineering toolbox website state scedule 80 pvc max psi is 194 with 4" pipe and 225 with 3" pipe.. you igniting the propane? if your not propane is only 100psi, dont worry bout it, if ya are, I'd be getting a very long igniter wire if I were you

@Me102288 That's incorrect. With the proper air-fuel ratio, most flammable liquids or gases will "explode" if confined. The higher the pressure is upon ignition, the more pressure it will build. Propane is not "explosive" unless it is confined in the proper ratio. Such fuels will deflagerate, not "explode". Plus, the pressure the fuel exerts upon ignition varies with the ratio of the chamber diameter to the barrel diameter. Gasoline or propane would generaly be safe in any REASONABLE spud gun.

@gonitronow What I said is straight off the chart... pvc is low pressure water, sewer or chemical drain pipes... they arent high pressure pipes at all.. and gasoline does not explode.. doing studies on hydrogen as a fuel, hydrogen is explosive, regardless of containment, compressed or not, gasoling just burns fast.. not explosive, why running a combustion engine on gasoline is only 30 to 40% effecient :-\

And no I'm not using hydrogen as as propellant thats insane... lol

Still I've seen way more powerfull potato guns then mine.. eveen though mines only 5 feet long, I fire it like a rocket laincher off my shoulder, end up catching just the end of the barrel. f'in recoil is ridiculous

If it takes only 1-2 psi to move a potato down the barrel, and considering how large the chamber is, the barrel should be longer, especially if a manually operated valve was used (which I didn't see). The barrel should be about 3 feet longer, as it seems logical to assume it is still accelerating when it exits the barrel.
