So should he be charged first? And then should he be tried? And what charges would you level? On what basis...and within which jurisdiction? Would you hold him under International Law or under Geneva Protocol? And whilst he awaits this decision, what and where would you sanction that he be held and under what conditions? Again....Geneva? Or do you just want to make noise by screaming "hang him". Ever occur to you that he might have saved a life...just not an American one??

Seems that you spend less time in the brig raping and murdering a 14 year old Iraqi girl, burning her body and then machine-gunning her family than if you refuse to do such a thing and speak out against it. Seems like it's ok to torture....but you get banged up if you refuse and rat out the scum who do it. Dunno.....goes back to Bloody Sunday. Paras who spoke out got beaten and ostracized. Private Manning spends 23 hours a day in a 6ft x 12ft cell. He's moved in chains and cannot exercise. No sunlight, no fresh air. His mental health is such that he now finds it difficult to follow a conversation.
Not quite as bad as the treatment of Puerto Rican independence activists who, in 1981 were given sentences of 35 to 90 years, then kept underground in solitary confinement. They were also sexually assaulted, kept in perpetual light and awoken every half hour if they tried to sleep.

I'd like a link to him saying that, as everything I read he says he did it because he saw terrible injustice and wanted something done. And even if those are his motives (which they most likely aren't), it doesn't matter as that information needed to be leaked. Even if his motives were simply to destroy America, more good will come out of it than bad, because we REALLY need to clean up our act there.
