you know...even though that girl survives...she's a ghost when the guys find the boat years later. When the cable killed everyone, the boat was stocked with food, and could still run...HOW DID SHE DIE!? I would just survive off the food and figure out how to drive to boat to shore and get therapy for life. Apparantly the kid did none of these things, and failed.

The rope came along at an upwards angle, which is why different people got chopped in different places. By the time the rope reached the guy holding the girl, he was just unlucky that it happened to be at his head height and not a foot or so higher.

I love the failure of physics here. In order to have cut through everybody so cleanly, the wire must have been insanely thin (smaller than fishing wire). Otherwise, instead of slicing, it would have yanked the passengers more.
