Question could you stack 2 4X4 on top of a 4X4 in terms of weight of vinyl? I am running out of room and want to make a 6X4 unit just not sure it would hold....
@lineartechbd1600 If you put one of these shelves on its side to put turntables and a mixer on it, do you think you can add something to be able to have the turntables turned sideways (battle style)? It looks like they just barely fit the normal way.
brilliant video, i wish i had seen this video a few year's ago, i now use the 2 halfs that make up a kingsize bed stood on there side and pushed together to sit my decks mixer etc on, and found some cheap storage shelfs and put my records in plastic boxes(similar to milk crates) on these shelfs inside the frame of the upturned bed : ) this is the perfect height for djing(it took ages to find something the right height-its top is just below the height of my elbows)
Great video man, I've just discovered that Ikea here in the UK has the self same shelves available. Some quality advice here thanks very much. All the best James, Manchester, UK
Hey man thanks for the info, loving my expedit. I just wanted to give you some advice, use a Popfilter or EQ everything off under 60hz next time you upload a vid! cheers
@lineartechbd1600 Instead of a pop filter, just put the mic next to your cheek instead of talking directly into it. It will pick up your voice without a problem, and eliminate any pops.
I did some radio dj work in college, and that's how we always did it, even with a pop filter.
And, again, thanks for the info! Ikea should hire you, bro.
@lineartechbd1600 you may think i'm kidding, but if you stretch a piece of underwear (one of those wich are made of elastic stuff) betwen your mouth and your mic, it will work fine...i know it sounds ridiculous, but you know...professional popfilters are made of the same thing...they make it in a beautiful look but at last its almost the same thing.
I have about 10,000 records stored in Ikea Ivar. Goes 6 rows high (max is 5 with Expedit), and stronger than hell. Expedit is good if you want a more finished look.
i suggest you buy one on craigslist. i got all of mine free. i have owned about ten of these over the years in different colors and sizes. i have also modified a 4x4 into a 3x4 whici is a great height for putting equipment on the top. might make a video of how to modify one later.
i got all of my shelves from craigslist. got 7 free and one i paid 20 for. I just modified a 4x4 to a 3x4 and i am looking to sell it with some records. you should be able to put one long horizontal piece on a 2x4 (not 2) . you would have to get that long piece from somewhere and then get short pieces from somewhere. maybe you can get a 2x4 and a 4x4 then use parts from the 4x4 and put them in the 2x4 but if you are going to do that you might as well modify a 4x4 into a 2x4.
Do you think the 2x4 could be arranged so that there are 2 long pieces used horizontally, one long piece vertically in the center, and the 4 short pieces used vertically on either side? I was thinking of using one of these for vinyl storage and don't have an IKEA nearby to go investigate. Thanks.
Yes, it can be assembled with the long pieces vertically for lighter weight objects but not lots of vinyl.. The only reason to put the long pieces in vertically is to fit taller speakers or something tall. i do not recommend putting the long pieces in vertically for vinyl records. if you look at the construction of it, it will break and collapse if you put the long pieces in vertically. if you look at how it goes together, what i said makes a lot of sense.

Where did you get the feet for the setup at the end with the turntables? I'm going to get the same setup.
