And to think...the US military almost phased out the C-130 during Viet Nam because as a transport plane it was susceptible to ground fire. Add a few 7.62 mini-guns and that was the beginning of the AC-130. The guns got bigger, on-board computers enabled flight and aim capability. Then somebody got the bright idea to put a 105 howitzer on it and we have the ultimate ground support aircraft.

Most likely if you're the bad guy, it'll be an attack helicopter that gets you, 'cause attack helicopters are pretty much made for taking out ground troops, not to mention there are more Apaches produced than AC-130's

ummm russia has a disarmament of ICBM's due to the disarmament bill back in the arms race. also drug abuse is more common in mexico but lowered in just the last couple years due to less funding. mentally retarded is not more common in the us but more around since we have a higher population. missiles are really a misnomer, since there are a lot of missiles for different areas of battle.

@0121repBirmz They have been taken out before. We have recovered them, *mostly* still in one piece, but they have been shot down. My dad was to pilot one, but he was unable, cause the commanders recommended he wait, and told him a day before he was going to go. The AC-130 was shot down, hit the wing, and out of the 14 crew members, only 2 survived. But yea, they recovered it, and my dad flew over Iraq later that year. I think there are more now, not sure, though.

This is a common variant of the AC 130 Vietnam era builds; It flies in circles around the target and kills by using 2 * 7.62 vulcan M-134, 2 times Oerlikon 40mm and a 105 mm cannon. The build has changed since and is more accurate but has less guns.

The AC 130 can deliver up to 12000 rpm by vulcan, 150 rpm by oerlikon and max 6-10 rpm by 105mm the amount of loiter I do not exactly know, It's a successor of the AC-47 Spooky (3*7.62 vulcan) and a compeditor to the AC117 Stinger (4*7.62 vulcan)
