  • Onl;y if you put the fish in the same day!

  • Google it! I got mine over 4 years ago, so prices change, shop around. You can order any size you like, get 45mil!

  • where should i get a pond liner i cant have one that big maybe 10ft long 3ft wide and 3 ft deep

  • most people dig the pond by hand.......hahahahahaha!

  • nice pond so far it is great

  • I would love to update everything, will soon, just looking for a little more time, lol.

  • Hey matt,

would u mind if u can record, and post a pond update..

im sure i and many others ar keen to see what your pond and its eco-system looks like..

    thanks

  • i know what the yard is missing fucking grass

  • how to build a pond,

    1. Dig a hole

    2. Fill it up with water

  • u can use a shovel to dig a pond but it will take a long time

  • God that shoveling must take ages!

  • and by having a pond, you built your own ecosystem and did your part for the envirnment :)...heh i learned this in my geography class

  • how did you smooth the pond out?

  • @darknessinyou

By hand! that, and a spade shovel. But it's the funnest part.

  • damn i wish i had a tractor hahaha

  • @bsebas81 I rented it.

  • @pondsandkoi how much

  • @bsebas81 No shit Im building my pond close to a tree and the roots are a bitch to get threw!

  • @BloodyKnives66 same problems here too man... i hit the roots with force using the side of a shovel bang bang bang..or u could cut em with a saw and than place rocks to avoid em from regrowing .. help me too man can i use aquarium products like heater filter n air pump for my pond.im planing to save money ..?

  • could i make one of these and make it deeper and put catfish, bass, and bluegill in it????

  • @aswann0831 Why I think you can! Just check your local Fish and Game to make sure it's legal. I know there are restrictions on certain fish in certain places.

  • there is no such word as funner it is more fun.. other then thats.. great vid..

  • pretty cool. I bet your fish are happy :)

  • ur ponds size is awsome but the looks are gay no effence

  • what state is this in? thnx

  • when my pond was built in my back yard, after completed and running with a UV sterilizer, i waited 2 weeks for the water to age and clear up and then i added my fish, in my opinion, that way i can rest assure that the day i added water and what ever was in the water has already been filtered out!!!

  • @buddyclubs

Great advice, you don't want to add the fish right away. Mine, howver, had been living in a horse trough for the last two months so I waited three days and added them. I'm sure they weren't happy.

  • how deep is it?

  • hi i have a question sir! how many days will the chlorine evaporate on the water? coz im new to tap water! thanks.. :) just making sure.. :)

  • hello i am 14 and i have been interested in ponds and fish for ages and would like to know if you have made anymore videos o ponds and wat type of koi and other fish you have i take it that you are not in england by thr weather lol wat type of filter are you using cheers

  • @smallntal

So I see youtube has changed, I can no longer answer individual Qs.

So I'll try to be on a bit more, but I also have a website linked in my profile. If the answer isn't here, you'll certainly find it there. We have a pond forum and a wiki linked from there as well.

  • deeperr

  • rainwater is healthier for frogs and insects :) i learnt that from blue peter

  • the soil at our house is like rock! im thirteen too (well 12 and a half) and i go catfishing alot. i want to have a catfish pond to put those small cats just big enough to keep in there, let em grow, and catch them. i might let my friends pay to fish!=) i know that cats love a muddy bottom so i will put in lining, then put in some dirt. Please pm me as to where i can get the liner??

  • Get the liner from Ebay, Make sure you buy 45 Mil EPDM i recommend Anjon Pond Liners. I have build two cat fish pond's and one bass pond for friends up in Pollock Pines, CA. I know a few things about building them for cat fish and bass. First, put a pond in a shady area, catfish and bass come out much more when it's shady, it will also help greatly in keeping the pond water cool. Second, Make sure you have a finished of pond at least 3,500 gallons.

  • Third, Make sure you have a pond of at least four feet deep, all the catfish ,bass, trout pond's i have constructed were eight to twelve feet deep! Fourth, adding the mud on the bottom, is good for the catfish and bass, but not essential, so add about five- six inches of very sandy mud, this will keep your pond more clear, But after battling with a dirty pond with all that mud i drained it and placed really fine sand instead mixed with some gravel insted and the pond is now really clear,NO MUD!

  • Fifth, a light filtration system, and pump! I know you are going like... WHAT? But it's true don't go bonkers with the filtration a simple skimmer and Bio-Falls will be all what you need for a crystal clear pond!and select a pond pump no about half of the volume of water that you have, so if you build a 18,900 gallon pond ( Like one of the ones i build...) just use a 9,000 GPH pump! I know how much you want a pond i am 14 and i used to like fishing, but know i am into fishing in ponds more fun!

  • @Arteolike if im gonna build a pond to fish in, in my back yard, what demmentions of the liner size would you recommend and how deep do you think it should be?? btw my back yard is 92'x92'

  • Nice backyard size! First off, Location, Location... and size.

What size pond do you want?

What fish do you want to keep?

For your backyard you need to look and vision how you want the pond to be and how large.

I think a 25' Long and 15' - 20' Wide pond would be great. For any fish cold water fish go at least 4' preferably 8'

  • Now, lets say the final size of the pond is going to be 25' x 15' x 8' figure out the liner sixe you need like this... your width (25) added to the depth time's 2 (8x2) plus 1 foot for overlap so...

25 + (8x2) = 41+ 1' (overlap) Now 42' would have to be a custom size to be cut, rather then having all the extra liner and throw it way make the pond a little smaller to accommodate a smaller liner size, cause liners are typically sold in intervals of 5 (example 5x 5 25x 20 45x50)

  • how did you measure how many gallons it is?

  • Average width times ave depth x ave length x 7.5, if I recall correctly.

  • hhehehehe i`m thirteen and i`m trying to convince my dad to buy a tractor.i have to do all the work by rake, tiller(manual),shovel, hoe.

  • i was you when i was a kid.. i built 3 and no i didnt have a permit lol I used a tiller a wheel barrel and a shovel... one ended up 6 ft deep but they were all concrete except one had a betonite clay bottom ..full of fish like green eared sunfish and catfish and in one koi ..the key to a good pond is leakproof materials and LOTS OF PLANTS like 80% coverage.. should be fun!

  • yeah...i have mine holding water so now all i have to do is drain it, dig deeper, cover the clay with sand, add structure(rocks, sticks stumps),and let it fill up again!

  • lol

  • did you pump your well dry or??

  • its not realy deep your fish mite gets eaten

  • They are all Koi.

  • what kind of fish is that

  • hey does any one know where i could get bass, catfish, bream

  • ya kens hatchery i think its in georgia.. should be online ..order a catalog.. they have tons of hybrids.. i usually catch my own .. its cheaper hehe

  • COOL! VERY COOL. Wish to know about water proof ? Cemented pond. wish to know some technique.

  • Pond liner is much better and more water proof.

  • i want a pond to fish in =/

  • Bro I like your pond, but I have three words for you underlay underlay underlay

  • Imkpossibly hard this size. I hope i don't regret it.

  • I've built a few by hand. I feel much more love for my pond digging it with a track hoe!

(It would have taken me weeks, it would never have been as big, my fish would have died in the interrim)

  • Dig your pond by hand and you will have a total connection with it. This guy was digging in Sand and Sandy Loam. Five hundred pound rocks change things up. But, that's where the love comes from. Man rules, I like Charlie and I like this pond. If I had this soil in my backyard, my pond would be much bigger. Good job Dude.

  • can have those filters you said you were getting rid of?

  • did i say that? I don't have any spare right now...

  • i have a question. if i dig a pond will a pool pump and filter work for the fitration pz tell me before i dig my pond

  • I really have never heard of anyone doing it and i know a lot of ponders. was president of the Utah Water Garden Club a few years, too. I'd say probably not.

  • what is that thing called for the horses that u made the temperary pond out of

  • i call it a horse trough.

  • thanks! I'm going to do an updat after the plants get going, around the end of May.

  • This is awesome. Good work. I thought I needed a company to do something like this. On to part two. Please put more homesteading videos like this.

  • cool .. thanks guys for all your help

hopefully i inspiered my dad to let me build a pond in the next few years .i have too many pets. 4 galahs ,1 cockatoo ,1 pigeon , 1 alexandriene ,i pigeon , one rabit and arround 28 fish in a 4 foot tank/

but when i forced my dad to watch these pond vidios and how to build a pond and selecting the right liner vidios ,he prefers for me to build a peacfull natural looking pond rather then a 10 meter or 40 foot bird avairy .well hope all goes well

  • good for you, I've actually had an aviary or two, also.

Just talk dad into letting you build a big enough pond :)

  • I can't answer the Qs on money or conversions, but ALL ponds go through a natural phase where the water truns green. If you wait and let that pass, the single celled algae that causes it turns to string algae and the pond water clears. Eventually, if you eco system is right (not too many fish, etc) the algae will thin out, too, and you'll have a nice, clear pond.

  • thanks jako1945 ,

one question , im in australia and we dont use gallons , we use litters ,would u think you can convert 1600 gallons to litters ..

also approximatley how much australian or if not american $ it it cost to build ur pond and how long did it take for the water to become green /brown or murkey since the start

  • I would say about 6064 liters....and it cost me about 200$ for the liner and i did all the digging and my... under layment was a couple of layers of walmart 8$ 6meters by 3 meters black tarps..

  • hey matt .nice pond.ive watched ur vidios and im planing in about 2 years to build a backyard fishpond around half or 1/3 of ur one.problem is im only 14 yrs old (in a few months i will be able to get a job) and we live in a city/suburban like suburb and we have a school behind our house.

just a few questions . according to my research from books , vidios etc, arnt u ment to place an underlayment beneath the liner .and how long does it take for the water to become mirky and dirty?

  • I think I can help you with the underlayment part of your question I built my first pond last summer and It's about 1/3 size of matt's pond (My pond is 1600gallons)The point of a underlayment is to keep roots from putting a hole in the liner.... So when you dig the pond if you don't dig up any roots you may not need a underlayment, but if you want to plant or their allready is trees or bushes around it you may want to go with a underlayment just to be safe.

  • I agree with Jakoi, but I didn't use an underlayment because the liner weighed about 300 pounds, i felt it would be too tricky to get the liner to stay still while I rolled it out. So I just made very sure there wer no rocks and smoothed it out with fine dirt first.

And don't be too concerned with roots, they have a tendency to turn when the hit the liner. Your enemy might be sharp roots that you've cut, however.

  • Nice pond... I cant say anything bad about it because i dont even know how to build one! Good job 5 *s

  • I love the spammers. But you're right, they really are a bunch of losers with nothing to do.

  • wow, people must not have anything going on in their lives to be so negative. i didn't know ponds had to go by a certain format. oh well, you must have done something wrong, bad boy, slap on the wrist. now go sit in the corner.LOL!!!

GREAT POND. you get 5 stars from me...

  • If you want to really build a pond let me know...cause your pond sucks

  • hey, that would be great. How can I reach you?

  • yeah, come on over!

  • wooo lets go snorkeling and fishing in your backyard!

  • your pond is cheap but......... pretty awesome work :D

  • Check out PONDGURU's channel

  • build your pond first, then landscape. when you buy a new house, it generally doesn't come with lush growth.

  • looks like you need to water the ground rather than put it in hole, the landscape looks like the sahara desert

  • Drama tube fag?

  • Learn all you can from videos like mine, people who have ponds, and books, and do it yourself. It costs a TON of money to have one built professionally.

  • Learn from who? I guess you never heard of building codes? I dare you to invite the inspector over or ever try to sell that house.

  • would you reccomend a expert to build a pond or can this be undertaken by someone with moderate construction skill

  • Busted! You caught me. It's a hole with liner.

  • Is that a pond or a hole with liner?

  • cuter hah

  • wow.

  • hey nice pond 1 tip get bug spray and when what store can i get liner and do i ask for liner or is there a specific name and how much is the liner?

  • Actually, Mosquitoes don't breed in moving water. I've had ponds for years and we never have mosquito problems.

  • You sad bastard, you keep posting the same comment in any pond making video you find.Bell end.

  • Mosquito's will not breed in moving water, only stagnant. Even if one 'special' one did decide to lay larvae in the water, the fish will take care of them very quickly.

I always find it amazing how a lot of people are experts on every subject imaginable.

  • sure. in a day!

  • hey could you make a pond that is only15 inches or 12 ...because i want a play pond

  • How very informative! Great information. Thanks!
