  • Your a good woman. And its wonderful that you took the time out to educate your self on black hair care.Keep up the great work! :-)

  • Hi I'm a new subscriber! I've been watching your videos and you are amazing. It's not too often that I see a Caucasian woman that can do black hair. GREAT JOB!!! And I also love to see when people adopt children of different races. <3 God Bless :)

  • you should try shea butter instead of gel.

  • I just want you to know that you are awesome

  • Im so impressed with this video, the products your using are great for black hair. Bless you for adopting our fellow black children, a loving home, with a loving family is all that matters. Race is only an issue if you let it be. Prayers to you and your beautiful family xxx

  • I love the hair styles that you have posted. Your daughter in this video is so pretty!

  • Thank you for taking care of our babies hair. And being conscious and educating yourself about our hair. Thank. Thank. And for the person who dislike. Hater. All respect to those do what they can when they can. Black or white.

  • You are doing wonderful and your children are lucky to have you as their mom. So many mothers don't pay attention to their children's hair, regardless of color. It is a tough task, especially with different hair textures and you go above and beyond what many mothers do wit their children's hair. Negative comments just show someone else s insecurity. I get great tips from Youtube and your tutorials are a great help. Thank you!

  • Luv, Luv, Luv Taliah Waajid (Black Earth) Products and Great job! I'm using this also for my daughter as I am transitioning her from a texturizer to completely natural. So far these products work great on relaxed and natural hair.

  • This video makes me smile. Its beautiful!!

  • This video made me smile! I'm so glad that you didn't get frustrated with your daughter's hair and go to the salon for the beauticians to chemically straighten her hair. I feel that adoption is a beautiful thing and give a young child a change to grow up in a loving family environment. Don't pay mind to the negativity, because people will always react negatively to something that their not used to seeing all the time. Keep up the great work and I'll continue to tune in your videos!!! :)

  • i mix my bodifier with infusium. i also thought it was too thick for my hair. but my daughter's hair soaks in the bodifier, so for her i use it straight from the bottle. i spray her hair every other day. but i truly wanted to thank you for opening her heart and home, to kids who needed a GOOD home.

  • I love your videos. You are absolutely amazing and very helpful.

  • Your daughter is beautiful, you are doing a great job. God Bless you:)

  • CONT:I began to follow Kimmaytube and a few other naturals and found that most products that are marketed for our hair destroys it and have been using natural/ and or organic products since I started my journey. I wish my own mother would have had the knowledge and tools to preserve my hair 30 years ago, and to show me that there was never anything wrong with my hair then. Thank you and I hope that you continue to keep her on this healthy hair regimen and show her that she is not her hair.

  • I LOVE the fact that you are taking the time and effort to put into preserving and protecting her natural hair. I must say that due to false advertising and much confusion most girls, women, and mothers (especially white mothers) know nothing about black hair. I must admit myself for YEARS could not figure out what the problem was with my hair and why it kept breaking and why it wouldn't grow. It wasn't until last year that I decided to go natural and in no time by hair is right @ my back.

  • your a good women for looking out for the lil sisters. ONE

  • I THINK YOU ARE DOING A GREAT JOB WITH YOUR DAUGHTER'S HAIR!! AND I JUST LOVE YOU TO PIECES FOR THE FACT THAT YOU ADOPTED OUTSIDE OF YOUR RACE. LOVE IS UNCONDITIONAL AND COLOR BLIND. DON'T LET ANYONE GIVE YOU ANY HEAT FOR DOING SO, BECAUSE THERE ARE 100'S OF CHILDREN YOU WHO NEED LOVING PARENTS & FAMILY TO GROW UP WITH, BUT DONT GET ADOPTED BECAUSE OF COLOR. YOU KEEP YOUR HEAD UP MISS LADY!!! AND KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

  • I'm an African mom of two girls. I lived in Africa for most of my life but I'd never seen anyone at home put so much thought into taking care of our natural hair. Thank you so much putting in the time into your research and sharing your tips.

My hat's off to you for adopting these girls. I You've made the world a bit better.

  • I don't know what evil things people have said to you -but I can just about imagine, and I think it's sad. As an Eligibility Worker in Foster Care I commend you on your choice to adopt. As a mother I send you a virtual hug for your choice to adopt . As a black woman I must say I am very pleased and impressed that you take care of your daughters hair the way you do! It is very obvious you did your research and I love the way you kept their hair natural. Good job Mommy, keep up the good work :)

  • Don't let evil things get to you....you have a big heart and it really is wonderful that you would take in someone else child,....I am adopted and loved my late mother dearly. It is especially nice to see a none black be able to take care of a black childs hair. I have seen little black childrens hair ruined because the white parent didn't know that you just can't put water on our hair...it needs moisture....so God bless you...I love your tutorials...

  • Thank you for the video. My kids are mixed and I have been learning how to deal with their hair. In my country there are not many items available for black kids. But your video helps me a lot. I will look for them when we visit my husband's country next time!

  • Could be because I'm pregnant but seeing how well you take care of your babies hair made me all misty eyed, lol. I'm black and my mommy didn't even put this much thought into the caring of my hair. I can see you get compliments on it a lot, but I had to add my praise. Your blog is awesome too btw :)

  • have you ever tried raw shea butter in her hair?

  • Also thank you for not relaxing her hair and learning to care for it correctly. not even many african american parents take the time to learn to do young black girls hair

  • thank you for adopting. I am a former foster kid. They wouldnt allow white people to adopt black kids when i was young. I ended up on the streets. I am in college now. but it still gets to me (in a good way) when i see people adopt especially when they go outside the box

  • @Offended83Shadow - Thank you for saying this to me, I needed to hear this today. I got a barrage of nasty comments from an angry person last night that effected me a bit. I usually let the nasty comments roll of my back, but sometimes they get to me. I don't think there are any easy answers, maybe no "perfect" situation, but my children needed a mother and I needed children. It is reassuring to know you would have wanted a mom - of any color! I am so sorry you had to grow up without one.

  • @Katelynylyn ignore ignorant haters. They have no right. With the rate african americans adopt (which generally is isolated to family and only kids whose parents died) it is atrocious that anyone would even think to hate on you. Not to mention that as i said many would rather put chemicals in a little girls head or make fun of them for having "nappy" hair than learn to care for the girls properly. I was ostricised while in foster care. There were ...

  • @Katelynylyn all black women at the shelters and group homes. Did anyone stop to say hey, let me teach you how to do your hair? no. They made fun they called me "toby" or "celie" and then laughed even more when the relaxer lady would come around once every 3 months and my thick curly hair never took on the consistancy of a white persons after the fact. Its a flaw in our "community" but sadly not one exclusive to ours east and west asians share the traits

  • @Katelynylyn think what you are doing is the most beautiful thing ever. You are giving a loving home to kids who will love you back moreso because they know you chose them. They will feel special every day and know they are loved. When i was a kid i didnt care, 2 dads 2 moms, blk white or orange i just wanted someone to kiss your boo boos and tell you they love you its all that matters. You are an amazing person. Absolutely amazing.. & I will quit ranting now on how amazing lol.

  • @Katelynylyn You are an inspiration!

    love from London x

  • im from jamaica and ive nevr seen that product....where hav i been!?

  • yeah you really do a great job ... on your girls hair... I am african american ... and could not for the life of me figure out how to do my daughter hair.. love your step by step post.... thanks again

  • You can dilute your shampoo with water. Also try making your own homemade shampoo, conditioner, and moisterizer. 100% Raw african black soap, and castile soap can be made up for shampoo, body wash, and face cleanser. Coconut cream or coconut milk for conditioner.

  • damn!!! that a huge jar of coconut oil!!! lolzz thanks for uploading. ; )

  • thank you for not relaxing her hair. and making and honest effort to mantain it properly. wonderful wonderful work

  • I love Taliah Waajid products! Keep up the good work!

  • I am an African American; mother and I recently went natural last year. I chopped off all the relaxed hair and let what I was blessed with do what it wanted to do. I commend you for taking the time to obviously research and put into practice what is best for your daughters hair. Being natural I know that it takes time. But I have gotten to the point that my routine no longer takes 4hrs. only 2. You are teaching them to appreciate and love what they were blessed with & for that I thank you. <3

  • Hey KLL. Just a couple of quick tips: Knot Today which can be bought either online or at Whole Foods Store is the absolute best detangler around. Although the beads are super cute rubber bands cause hair breakage. Best wishes.

  • Thank you! I have been looking for information like this so I could care for my daughters hair.

  • @hotty5467 - that is a beader, watch my video on how to add beads to a braid and you will see how to use it :)

  • It is such a pleasure to watch your videos. You obviously have done your research on the care of your daughter's hair. You do a wonderful job!

  • Thanks for the product review!

  • you are a BEAUTIFUL women!

    Keep up the GREAT work!

  • Lolxz im Mad she clap her hands after you were done talkin !

  • May God Keep you and your family! You have a beautiful spirit. You know more about caring for black hair then a lot of black women!

  • The only I would say is not to use rubber bands on her hair ! Maybe try goodies ouchless bands . The rubber bands will cause breakage

  • Do you use anything to put directly on her scalp? Like a type of moisturizer besides the spray, or is there no need for it?

  • @crelady - I haven't needed to put anything else directly on the scalp for my girls when using the TW. They don't ever seem dry and they very rarely get itchy on the scalp.

  • @Katelynylyn Thanks! I'll try that spray on my niece. As well as the other products. Awesome job on the hairstyles by the way.

  • u are AWESOME!!!!! I love how well you preserve the hair, u doing a wonderful job!!!! Thanks for the great tips!!!

  • I love your videos! Quick question: I've had a hard time finding the ingredients listed online for Taliah Waajid products. Do you know of a place where they're listed online? I'm interested in getting the mist bodifier you mentioned, but I want to make sure it doesn't have any ingredients my son is allergic to...

  • i love how disinterested the little girl is, and how the mother doesn't raise her voice and talks so sweet to her children, biological or not, love is the only thing that matters. I am glad you took the time to figure out how to do there hair! many blessing to you and your family! i am really enjoying your videos!

  • You are doing a very good job on styling your daughters' hair, they're beautiful. I see that you said the shampoo dries their hair out. Do you co-wash or use a Sulfate free shampoo?

  • You are Awsome!!

  • I love ur videos , i also love the way u take care of ur daughters hair and the way u do the trail and error ... Ur da bomb ! p.s uve givin me alot of tips too, lol

  • you are welcome

  • Thanks for the tips, I am going to use some on my daughters hair.

  • I really like your videos you are going a very good job. Do you still using this product? If not what are you using right now?

  • @fafabk - yes I am still using all of these things. I am pretty happy with this routine and I haven't felt the need to try anything new for a long time :)

  • i love the comb out for my twa!!!

  • Omg I love those products, I love the comb out and black earth shampoo! lol! Love you videos too! Keep up the good work!

  • great info. love your styles/technique. that is the biggest jar of organic coconut oil i have ever seen...please tell me where you got it?

  • @jkalm4ofus - I got the oil at a local health food store

  • @Katelynylyn i LOVE your videos can you make more?

  • Your great keep doing what your doing. You may even be able to start your own business with your knowledge and patience with black hair. It's not easy but when you style it at least once a week it's a piece of cake to care for.

  • Exactly! Once I learned how to work with my hair instead of against it...it was a cake walk from there...

    I love my hair!

  • aww...her hair looks great and she seems like she loves the beads. I think its great how you are working with her natural texture and teacher her to be proud of her hair.

  • i am sooooo impressed with you!!!!! omg! I am glad that you are embracing your daughters' hair

  • where do you get the taliah waajid conditioner

  • i love how you do your daughter's hair! i think that you doing culturally unique and beautiful styles in her hair show that you are committed to your cutie knowing her heritage! 5 stars! great! ;0)

  • yeah the bodifier is to thick and leaves a weird film. great idea about watering it down!

  • has anybody told you that you looked like kate gosselin

  • its nice to see a woman thats a different ethnicity of their child with african hair taking care of it the correct way. most women don't know how. I remember my friend in elementary school was miserable and hated her natural hair. she couldnt comb it and always had it in a pony tail. I'm sure ur videos will help education not only women of different ethnicities, but also black moms who dont know how take care of their child's hair correctly.

  • I would like to know if you currently use the Taliah Waajid product(KINKY WAVY NATURALS)for children.I would sure like to know your reviews on the product(s)and if possible the other two products that go along with it.I wish to try them on my adult african textured hair.

  • I have used it a couple times. I didn't notice that it made her hair any easier to comb through or that it made any difference in the healthiness of her hair - but that might be hard to tell after just a few uses. I will continue to use it since I have a whole bottle of it, but I don't feel like it is any better than the straight coconut oil I normally use after a wash. I have not tried the other products that go with it.

  • Have you tried doing a hot oil treatment (with extra virgin olive oil) before shampooing her hair? I think you would be able to shampoo her hair a little more often with out the shampoo stripping her hair. In any case this video is wonderful and will benefit many. Thanks for posting.

  • Many blessings to you and your beautiful daughter!! :)

  • have u ever tried cream of nature shampoo and condtioner.cantu shae butter coconut shampoo and conditioner..those are all really good and u can get them all from walmart.also 4-6 week is a little 2 long to keep her braids in 203 weeks should be the max.her hair could start locking together if you arent careful

  • I dont know how I missed this video! Just ordered the TW products a couple of weeks ago and tried them on both my daughters hair and so far so good. I'll wait and try it on mine next. Great video!

  • I think the TW products are a bit drying on the hair and scalp & strip the natural oils from the hair too. Have you ever tried Jane Carter products aka jane carter solution. I find that to work very well for many hair textures. It's one of my favorite products and the price is great for a big family. Miss Jessie in nice as well but the price is pretty high. Peace, blessings and good luck :)

  • U GO Girl!!, Thanks for all the great videos!

  • Your daughter is beautiful :) Great Job :D

  • your daughters hair is growning out wonderfully.

  • i givw you major props.. im 16 and i've seen people of other races adopt african kids and dont kno how to take care of their hair so thank you and keep up the good work! im african american by the way

  • please make more vids....they're awesome!! glad to see u back. :)

  • you explained everything so well. you were very professional. You are doing a great job with you daughter's hair.

  • what a petty little girl, and hair looks nice too

  • I am trying to learn how to braid cornrows, but not learning on my daughter, I'm learning on my boyfriends hair. it's very thick and he has a lot of it. can't seem to learn to keep the hair close to the scalp. I also have an issue with frizzies. I've never braided hair before. He won't let me use any gel either lol he put's olive oil for hair in his hair after it's been washed. I could use some tips or some help. I need to learn before my daughter get's older. Please help!! :)

  • Gurl, you make me proud. Its people like you that makes america a great place to live.

  • I agree...

  • You are a Dedicated Parent...and your a great 1...God Bless U!!

  • you seem like a well dedicated mom and that is good too know...i wana adopt tooo

  • love your videos! If the braids last 4weeks and that routine is working out great for you then stick to it.What works for some may not work for all, thanks for taking the time to do videos in the mist of it all~

  • Thanks for getting to know you daughters hair textures and learning how to take care of it...

  • it really upsets me to come on here to read people posting rude comments. Dont like the videos dont look at them, with that being said i am a black mother and I did not know how to braid until I found katelynlyn videos. my mother use to braid my hair all the time I just never learned I think your doing a great job with there hair. Keep up the good work and thanks for the videos!

  • I live in UK. Are the T.J hair products available here? How would i get them if not? Id like to try them.

  • rac123hae, i 'm not sure where you live but Taliah products are available at a lot of afro hair shops, but i live in south london so i'm not sure what region you are in. But i'm sure they are available online

  • Great review...very informative. I was thinking about testing some of the T.J . Products. I will try the protective mist bodifier. Thanks for posting.

    God bless,

    Lovely

  • i've heard great things about that line of products, but i hate buying stuff online, paying s+h, and then waiting for delivery. are the ingrediants mostly natural? also, what material are those sleep caps made out of? definately something for me to look into. as my locs get longer, i'm having more and more trouble finding something to sleep in. thanks for all the helpful links! this is another five star video!!!

  • you only cowash every 4-6 weeks? Doesn't her scalp get itchy before then? When my girls were young I shampooed, deep conditioned and rebraided/cornrolled weekly. I have 3 girls so every Saturday morning was spent doing hairhairhair. lol

  • Normally it is 4 weeks tops, unless I have yarn braids in and then it is more like 6. But we only do the yarn braids once or twice a year. It is extremely rare for them to complain about an itchy scalp. Really the only time they start scratching is while I am working on a hair style.

I would NEVER have time to do their hair weekly. It takes me all day or 2 half days at least to do 1 child's hair. How do you get 3 girls done in one morning?

  • It's normal in the black community to do children's hair weekly. Sometimes, if we get busy, we may stretch it an extra week. Of course, extensions last longer but until very recently they were frowned upon in young childrens hair. It was considered "too grown" for them. My Mom did her 4 daughters hair weekly too. We braid/cornrow with different hand movements and we hold the hair differently than you do and I suspect that is what allows us to go faster 45min-2hrs tops for the actual braids

  • lol, thats the biggest jar of coconut oil i've ever seen. Where'd you find that?

  • yeah it's huge :) We just picked it up at a local health food store. It saves money to buy in bulk and since I don't like having to make lots of trips to different stores to get different things, I like to buy BIG so that I won't run out for a long time!

  • If there is a whole foods near you thats where I got mine. A little pricy. I think you can also get a smaller one at walmart if I can recall.

  • Thanks for the tips. I love these products.

  • i comend you for this. most people dont even bother to take care of kids hair. :)

  • Comment removed

  • calm down. your only whiling cuz shes white...

  • Comment removed

  • i agree with you on that much. Any parent that actually knows how to be a good parent is extremely impressive. but you contradict yourself when u say "you put black mother's to shame." if it didnt matter whether she were purple or green then how is she putting black mothers to shame? again you whiled out because she happens to be caucasian.

  • I cook with that coconut oil

  • You are just a cutie pa-tootie! What a great mommy you are. Stay motivated!

  • Good too see your doing your videos again! My daughter is 2 so I look to you for styles..lol..thanx;.keep up the good work!

  • very informative video once again . your daughter hair has grown a lot . you do an excellent job .

  • Great job mama!

  • great job! you need to go teach Angellina Jolie a thing or two about the care of her daughter's hair

  • Ain't that the truth...Angelina...that baby's hair is NOT like Shiloh's...while you at it, holla at Hedi Klum too, those babies fro's need some hydration.

  • Thanks for sharing your tips. You daughter's are so lucky to have you as a mom.

  • What material are the sleep caps made of? Are they silk?

  • Katelyn,

Your videos are the reason I originally signed on to Youtube! Please keep them coming.

  • I don't use shampoo that much anymore either. When I do, I mix it with conditioner. I love your videos. Keep them coming!

  • shampoos tend to be really harsh and will dry out black hair; I tend to mix one cap of shampoo (mainly Dr. Bronners) and 2/3 water and that should work. Also, I agree with u, don't use gel as it will rob moisture. Just a good wash, conditioner and oil should do. People tend to put too much product on there hair in general. I tend to use plain old Extra Virgin Olive Oil on my scalp because it doesn't build up. But keep up the good work. peace

  • Hi, I miss your videos welcome back, I was just wondering how you and your girls were doing. God bless and thanks for the continued tutorials!!

  • Thanks for the Great Video, Take Care!

  • i love ur videos!

  • I got it at a local health food store

  • Yay!!! You posted another video. Thanks...
