The thing is those balloons did not go up and up for ever in some kind of rapture. They eventually burst and the latex remains floated back down to earth where they added to the overall garbage pollution that we all have to endure.
The remains may have also been ingested or snagged by wild animals, birds or fish causing them at least distress and possibly death.
I'm sure that Mom, being the fine lady she was, would not have wanted that.
