The video resolution is horrible, but his take on the novel & movie of "Unbearable Lightness of Being" by Milan Kundera is pretty good. I enjoyed the novel the 1rst time I read it, then when I saw the movie, it just added that much more chutzpah & charm to it. However, Nietzsche's eternal return theory may be that we all desire happiness, & in that sense that can be the ideal of repetition taken throughout history; but there are many forms of that an individual can take to make one's self happy,
therefore, history cannot repeat itself in the same form. It merely changes in variations...for ex: we are all comprised of different chemical compositions and DNA, & when 2 people meet, they form a chemistry that no other 2 people could replicate. Hence happiness or meaning can exist without repetition.
I thought Nietzsche's whole thing with the eternal return was less that history repeats itself, but more a matter of whether or not meaning can exist without repetition.
could it be that the expectation that we will go on, must go on, limits the real eternity . . . the eternity of now? wherein the dog lives here, now . . . holds onto nothing . . content with the bone, the ball, or simply it's owners presence. . . wherein man looks around imagining what he could have, has had , and or, may one day have . . . leaving the moment which can be enjoyed . . . and visiting that which is out of reach . . the past . . the future . . . beyond control . . just a thought
