I finally did this yesterday! I had a different strategy, but it takes ages. Leave the gnome somewhere you can find it, then drive through the tunnel. When It loads, get out of the car and run back to pick it up. You have to run an awful long way, but the chopper is gone:) Also, can anyone tell me if it gets easier after destroying the helicopter. Does the other car have as many problems?

getting the helicopter first is easier but a longer walk back to get the gnome.

it took me 5 hours to do this achievement it is hard especially with the chopper what you do is you go through the train yard with out the gnome then go back when there is no chopper there then safe driveing

This is how it went for me: lose the gnome, stop, run back, put the gnome back, drive 30 feet it falls out again repeat repeat repeat add to that 15 health at the start of the level and subtract half a day of saves, deaths, and loads and thats my story (Idk how to make an angry face so just imagine one's here)

You'd think a company as intelligent as Valve would have had the option of having a FUCKING OPENABLE/CLOSABLE TRUNK in the back of your car to put the god damned gnome.

But no.

They have to have to make me hate the game. I was fine with carrying the little bastard around with the Gravity gun before, but driving with it, having it slide out every 5 seconds is just bullshit.

Being an achievement whore has its drawbacks, I guess.

im tryin to do this just now and im at the bit where u jutr come out of that pain in the arse cave and they r using the extract on alyx and g man starts blabbin so im just seein if there is an easy way of carryin it in the car coz thats what im worried about lol

There is an easier way of doing this. Hide the Gnome under the first rail car you get too (the first car that you hid under in the video), then drive the car, then when you get into the tunnel and the Loading Bar pops up, wait for it to load then turn around (it will have to load again), then go pick him up and drive back, This is easier because when you go back the Chopper is gone so you don't have to worry about it, but after this you have to do what your doing. Anyways i hoped that helped. :)

I did it that way the 2th run this was my 3th.

forgot to close the hatch of the rocket two times and I never save anything :P

There's a much easier way. Just ignore the gnome and race to the end of the level through the tunnel. When the next level has loaded, turn around and go back. The gnome will still be there but the chopper won't!

I tried to show more of a strugle but it went pretty easy

I was able to show there is lots of room for error if you don't try to drive the gnome trough all the way

i hate lazy youtubers just show where the grone is and tell them put it in the rocket and thats it. they repeat vids over and over again. unlike u, u show the people who need help better advice. i tried to make a video walkthrough from start to finish with the grone but my xp doesnt have 512 ms. thanks for the vid even dough i had the achievement
