I assume it has something to do with Lucas not understanding why he should pay ILM his precious money to fix stuff that fans without any qualification can do within a few hours for free. But your guess is as good as mine.
awesome and great but the glow is too blue. why don't you try to add green adjustment to the glow to make it nice 'CYAN'y looking lightsaber glow, shall we say?
This is better than what ILM is capable of doing, and it cost you nothing, only time. The madness is though that it would cost George and ILM aprox $200.000 for this minor little change.
It IS pretty cool, I mean the smooth ignition n' all. But, it's a liiiiittle bit too bright. Usually, lightsaber blades have a glow that's more isolated to the core, this is a bit too wide. But, it's still cool.
Okay, so you obviously read about the "horrible effects" part in the video description, but you somehow missed the fact that this is about the DVD Special Edition?
The original film is from 1977. No I'm not talking about the Special Editions where Lucas screwed around adding new effects in it. You obviously used a clip from the original, one of the rare scenes Lucas did not molest with his newer effects.
Have appreciation for the effects they did have in the 70's and 80's. Yeah call it horrible, but was it horrible back then?
Dude, reading and understanding either the video description or at least some other comments should clear things up a bit. I used a clip from the freakin' Special Edition (so much for "obviously") and I am not picking on the original effects, since they were awesome.
God, no! The 70s' and 80s' effects were great for the time! But the 90s' crime they're calling a Special Edition of Star Wars, that's the horrible part of it.
Well, ok - maybe u're rite... :D, but I luv Star Wars! Some couple effects ain't matterin to me, u know. BTW: Your videos rock!!! Nice to see u're active YT-User.
And thx for the TFU-tracks u put, downloaded that Free Studio- stuff, it worx perfectly, thx a lot, man!
In this specific case, since it's a locked off camera, why not just make a clean plate for the first shot? Use that to paint out the original saber and replace it with your new roto. Would get tricky around the hilt but should work everywhere else.
That said, they look nice! And wow, I'd forgotten how bad they looked in the SE before just now rewatching them
bekommts zwar ein like, aber trotzdem finde ich sieht es ein bisschen zu "künstlich" aus. Irgendwie passt es nicht in die Bilder rein. Ein wenig zu intensiv an Farbe & Flicker.

I agree. Thing is, the original saber (captured from the DVD) was way too green, so I guess this made me overdo it a little with the blue shade.

@PeGeProd can't argue with that. you're right.

It shines just a bit too much

they should just paint out the old "blob" sabers and create use the newer blade effect
ArnoldTohtFan 5 months ago
This is what should have been in the blu-ray. Instead, they just tried to 'fix' it.

Nicely done! From one star wars fan to another, thanks =)

This is cool, but come on. For effects in the late 70's this stuff was far from horrible. This was state of the art back then.

Nice job.
I personally like the old effects though. The flicker and wildness of the blades just seems more real than the cg blades of today.

Good call. It would at least work for the first shot where the blade is not directly in front of Luke.

@PeGeProd True, it would certainly be challenging on the other shot :) I like the look of them! nice job

Der Flicker geht größenteils auf die Originaleffekte zurück, die natürlich wesentlich unsauberer und ungenauer rotoskopiert waren.
