I just finished watching "Russians Deprived of Russia." (It was great, by the way.) It mentioned how Cossacks were in charge of border security for years...and how, even in their dispersion, they often served in the same capacity for other nations.
It helped me understand more about "the Cossacks."
In fact, many things in Russia we're very ignorant of here--even people who Try to learn (and that isn't too many--haha) don't know much about vast Russia.

Which our nature reserves the size of the U.S national parks but off limit to all humans. Only border guards and scientist under permit allowed. Border guards must make sure no poacher breaches these zones and if they do they are dealt with. They are reserves never meant to feel human foot prints.

Such as to study dirt, erosion plants and so on. We have national parks and other areas open to everyone that usually border these reserves. Yes you patrol on horse the landscape is rugged and road less and populated by nomads and other such folk. Border guards need patrol on horse to assure illegal immigrants, bandits, drug caravans, illegal hunting of endangers animals are stopped and locals/nomads are allowed tofreely travel between borders. I am sure you can find a tourist agency that does wilderness horseback trips of you do the research but border guard service does not.
That will be great. I think that a big, expensive 'coffee table' book that emphasizes the uniqueness of a border agent's view would sell well. He sees places that no one else sees, and he is really talented. Send me a note when you get the website up. Don't be discouraged if the website doesn't sell much. I am an artist, and my paintings sell very well from galleries, but my website just sits there, doing nothing. I know that your photos would sell as a book or in galleries.

Yes you patrol on horse the landscape is rugged and road less and populated by nomads and other such folk. Border guards need patrol on horse to assure illegal immigrants, bandits, drug caravans, illegal hunting of endangers animals are stopped and locals/nomads are allowed tofreely travel between borders. I am sure you can find a tourist agency that does wilderness horseback trips of you do the research but border guard service does not.

That will be great. I think that a big, expensive 'coffee table' book that emphasizes the uniqueness of a border agent's view would sell well. He sees places that no one else sees, and he is really talented. Send me a note when you get the website up. Don't be discouraged if the website doesn't sell much. I am an artist, and my paintings sell very well from galleries, but my website just sits there, doing nothing. I know that your photos would sell as a book or in galleries.

well the area is the Altai mountains and desert/steppe area in it along its located in Siberian side but yes the plains end before it.

I patrol on horse doing segments at a time than linking up with the other units. Well official Kazakh's have to use like E40 road. But nomad people and other along border are allowed cross back and fourth. But that not written on paper but well known.
