  • *rolls eyes at all the trolls* I dearly apologize that you dont have the mental capacity to understand blender's GUI well, i suppose if they put big shiny red buttons on everything with 40 pt text title naming every feature then maybe you'd get it? Honestly looking at the original examples of what blender could do i hated the thought of it, but i use it and use it well thank you, me and my friend trade back and forth with using maya and blender =/ so shove the supremacy crap

  • I should really start using this technique to create my normal maps. Ive been lazy and using Shader Map Pro to create my normal maps generated from the diffuse. :P

  • i don't realy like the result, there is way to much detail in your diffuse and also in your normal map, you should make the sall ''grainy'' details very very subtle and make the deep cracks stand out

  • @Tehteifi lol. Take a look at Sintel movie. Blender is quite serious, so is the community that supports it. If you are a good artist, no matter which 3d software you will use.

    Blender is a joke because nobody in the industry uses it? Thats a pretty odd conclusion, isn't it?

    Blender 2.5 is as good as Maya and Max, or even better.

    Finally its up to the artist to create awesome stuff. Its fine though, if you think you need a $4000 3D Package which wastes plenty of Hard Disk Space to create your stuff. Dude, there are Blender artists who create much better stuff than your little renderings in your channel.

    And by the way. I'm a former Max and Maya user.

  • @Tehteifi blender is free so if you are getting started you dont have to go buy a $1000 program to learn you can just get blender then move to 3dmax or maya when you are ready to get serious. I used blender for my first couple years in the 3d world and now i have moved on and have made a game for the ios appstore that i has made me a 15 year old kid $300 last month. Now $300 might not sound like a lot but for your first game that's good. Now i donated $50to blender because it help me get stared.

  • @Tehteifi I know someone who uses Blender in the industry and he uses it quite well pal. If you don't like Blender then don't watch videos on it; is it really that hard? Oh come to think about it, that's right, you don't like Blender because its harder to use. Blender can do everything Autodesk Maya can do, if not more. Autodesk Maya babies you through the program.

    blender noone use in profesional manner because he has fucked up interface. so ppl rather buy a softwer which has a usefull interace and is easy to use. i tried to go on blender, i lecture about 3ds max, maya, mudbox and whole adobe package, and blender is one fucked up modeling softwer that makes everything harder, its the comon thing in free open source applications, so i rather choose autodesk and pay for it. one good thing is that he use a little space on disk. :D

  • @Tehteifi The fact that Blender is free does NOT make it less valuable. 3DS Max is commercial software so it has more people working on it, not to mention it' been released way before first version of Blender 3D. So stop disrespecting something you don't understand! ...or at least keep the opinion to yourself.

    Oh, and Blender is used in the industry. Just open your eyes :P

  • How'd you set up blender to do realtime rendering in the editing view? When I set the viewport to textured I only see the diffuse map on the model, no specular or normal. Any advice? PS how about a plant?

  • Loved seeing the tools you use-- however, sometimes need to see slower.... Please get info on 2.5, [mebbe Alpha3?] re: baking normals and occlusion.

  • great tutorial. probably the first good one that includes the specularity maps. I have been using the GE for a few years now and never really knew how much they helped. great job!

  • Great tutorial !!! Simple but very effective ! the next could be another part for a enviorament, like buildins, boxes, starships and the effects like lazers, rockets, shield! And mybe the GE for this stuffs!

    what about a fencing mask or anything with a metal mesh that shows other objects through?

    wires in a fencing mask are intertwined and it would be nice to see how they can be baked into normal maps + transparency so that one can see through the mesh.

    i ask this because my graphics card driver for linux dose not support glsl but it does in vista -- problem is i dont use vista i only use linux and i dont want to install vista

    to get around this i run blender-softwaregl /that way it does support glsl but its slow!!!

    my graphics card is ati raedon x1200

    I would love help makin the fence. I'm doing a game project. How would the work flow go? Do I model the fence in 3D and then render normal maps and textures, or do I make the texture in Photoshop/Gimp?
