Great that you've put this awesome video on here, I found it years ago somewhere then lost it again! I don't think I'd have liked to have been on board in those conditions! Certainly not on deck like the guy around 3:52 and beyond!

I believe this was a positioning move, not a revenue trip?

apparently that was the norm in the 70 s with clyde paddlers.considering the number of pier s she lands at each season, in some awful weather, id say its out of their hands sometimes.

still think her bridge and engineroom crew are amongst the best and most talented their is!!

Wow. What a great little ship. My Grandfather was head of naval architecture at Fairfield's on the Clyde where she was built.

"Clydebuilt" still means something in 2009!

@thejamesieboy Gosh, you're right! I was thinking of the Jeanie Deans, which WAS built at Fairfield's, but before my Grandad's tenure there. He was at John Brown's in Clydebank when Jeanie Deans was built.

Last time she visited Swanage, pulling up to the pier was so smooth it was like a train pulling into the platform! Top crew, Top Steamer!

paddle wheelers are terribal in weather...

one paddle digs in more than the other when it rolls, and then you have some interesting acrobatics...

But, you need a good crew to operate them.

And it's operating! Nice old Tub.

i bet she handles like a pig in that weather, but i still say the captain and the bridge crew are the best there is! any other ship in the sea must be easier to maneuvre than a paddle steamer.when you see her move off from a pier, the crew work like clockwork. lots of things to think about then navigating waverley. lovely girl!!!
