  • Cannot believe that I met her!

  • is diana also barbie's new singing voice?

  • @beanielandschool oh yep, she is.;)

  • Definitely gonna miss Kelly Sheridan we all love as the voice of barbie don't go pls pls pls guys listen we have to do something or anything to her back as barbie's voice who's with me!!!!!!

  • she is my musical theatre director!!!

  • She is the new Barbie voice

  • Wow. Just wow.

  • for goodness sake...she held that last note for about four beats more than written. There is a point where it becomes less about the part/show/song and more about the applause the actor is after. Hop off it and don't break this song in half with clapping. Save that for your curtain call.

  • I think normally holding the note out like that would kill the momentum, but her facial expression while she was holding it really showed frustration and made holding the note seem natural. I loved it.

  • nice she was in a barbie movie

  • ^^favorite version ever.

  • this was closing night of les miz on broadway. so she held the note for all of the fans the theatre was packed with. i'm sure she wouldn't do that on a normal performance day.

  • think i just found my favourite version of this song :)

  • I think she's incredible but I think she goes a bit too far and loses the character. Going up to the d was just about still Eponine but she held the note on for way to long. It lost Eponine completely and made it seem like she was showing off. What I wouldn't give for her range tho...

  • I really think it's amazing that she held the not for as long as she did, but she totally breaks character to do it. She's an amazing singer just not my first pick to play Eponine. Pretty good overall.

  • I was totally into it until she held the "known" note for a year. I felt like it totally killed her momentum. And the audience applauding ruined the moment. Totally bizarre.

But not as bizarre as the entire audience stopping their applause at the exact same time at 3:50...THAT freaked me out.

  • @snowwhiteluv28 I think this was the only time she did it. It was the final show so I'm sure she wanted to do something really dramatic. And the audience always go crazy for everything during the final show.

  • @marcxxmaverick that is true. i love her voice and from what i've seen she was a fantastic eponine. and my standards are veryyy high. :]

i still don't get how the audience all shut up at the same time, though..haha

  • looove her :) she taught my musical theatre ballet exam last year! :D

  • SHE'S THE VOICE OF BARBIE!!!!

  • a truly amazing performance

  • I've seen this show thirty times, never once heard anyone break the song up with an applause like that..a credit to her probably being the best besides Lea Salonga.

  • @GonejaDash This video is from (the first) closing night on Broadway, that's why.

  • reminds me a little of katie holmes. with a better belt.

  • HOLY CRAP! The notes on "PRETENDING" and "KNOWN" are PHENOMONAL!!!!!!!!!!!

  • jo jo kurwa jo jo tance jo jo kurwa youtube jo jo jo jojo

  • Diana FTMFW!!!!!!!!!!

  • Very good!

  • All of you need to check out Marissa McGowan as Eponine. She is the best to me.

  • @warfighter97 i respect your opinion but she her eponine is a little to dumb looking

  • @Fiyero06 It's not as bad as your grammar and spelling.

  • diana is so beautiful! but why are people bashing lea salonga on here? lea salonga is wonderful, equally wonderful to diana, kerry, sutton, etc.

  • Seen Diana in many flawless performances

of Les Miserables. She may go down as

truly one of the best Eponines to ever

    play the part.

  • that was one long note.

  • That is awesome! How old is she? Also, do you think that 14 years old is too young to play Eponine?

  • do you say that on every one?

  • she sounds really whiney. dont like this version at all, where is it from? which company? the current london cast are absolutely awesome, especially eponine and fantine.

  • shes the final original broadway run Eponine

  • don't really like the way she sings "known"... it's more like shouting....

  • she held that note way too long. i mean i'm impressed that she could, but it detracted from the emotion of the song, which is what's important. if it had been 2 seconds shorter, it would've been much more effective

  • This was from the final performance on Broadway, ffs.

  • So what? When I listen to this song I want to feel the emotion behind it. Being the final performance is no excuse to detract from it.

  • Hands down the best Eponine I have seen live (and I've seen my share). She's an amazing actress, and an equally amazing singer. I would actually take Kaarina over Salonga any day...in this role anyway.

  • oh dear...truly brilliant til that last money note...holding out for the applause really breaks this powerful song in half.

    really great til then.

  • @sirenthere It is not actually her choice how long she holds the note for. She has to take direction from the musical director on that note and wait until he tells her to get of the note. Also, this performance was not for a regular audience, it was for previous castmembers of les mis and the musical director wanted to show off his eponine.

  • @arrogantwormer that's fine. doesn't change my opinion -- the note is held for too long and it disrupts the number. i would have loved to see a video of a regular performance! she's great!

  • gah shes so good

  • this was good, but not even her best! i saw her in may of '02 and she was magnificent. out of 15-20 musicals i've seen, hers is the only performance that made me tear. she gave it her all--at a matinee! :)

  • amazingamazingamazing!

    Diana, you are fantastic!

  • Diana is my dance teacher :)

  • the held KNOWN makes this song so much btter when its not held yu don't feel the love

  • DID NOT LIKE the held "known". WAY show-offish and detracts from the song.

  • She usually didnt do that, the only reason she did that is because this clip is from the Closing perfomance of the original show.

  • yeah. It was actually a joke, the conductor made her hold that note because it was a show for previous casts of Les Mis.

  • she's ok but not great.lea salonga really set the bar too high for other eponine that they'll be 4ever compared to her performance & the'll never be able to top her.

  • she's so....into it! the WHOLE time it just seems like she's really Epenine! Diana is AMAZING!!!

  • @MostPwnsomestCowEver shes the voice of barbie on every movie of barbie

  • @winxenchantix12 actually, kelly sheridan was the voice of barbie up until 2009. Diana has only been the voice of barbie since barbie in a fashion faiytale

  • WOW!

  • Frances Ruffele and Lea Salonga can't make me cry after this song Diana Can and thats why shes my favorite

  • Does anyone know where I can watch her sing A little fall of rain?

  • it used to be up here on youtube

  • Diana You rock, you always have! even when you were in "the incredible Vanishing" lol

  • Wow very good xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • i saw her in this role like 4 times and each time she was incredible. she is an absolute FORCE of nature on stage- amazing presence, acting, and voice. it was like the role was written for her.

  • she is teaching me right now and SHE IS AMAZ!

  • why are they clapping? that is so awkward. not american idol

  • Because it was the final Broadway performance. Normally she wouldn't hold it that long.

  • true but Kerry Butler was the first to hold the note and that wasn't at a final performance and it was a unplanned event./ BUT I LOVE DIANA

  • Kerry Butler was the best Eponine-I actually saw her! Her voice was so incredibly beautiful.

  • I've seen Kerry Butler, Sutton Foster and Diana as Eponines-I've been REALLY lucky:) But Kerry Butler is truly the best Eponine EVER. Her voice is just golden.

  • Lea Salgon is the BEST eponine ever to exist... look her up fotr the tenth anniversary on my own.

  • nah Lea was better at Fantine, sutton and Butler and even Kaarina are really good and better than Lea

  • Agreed. Lea's Eponine is overrated... there are many better Eponine's. People just like her because she was a lot of people's "first" Eponine. Her Fantine is wonderful, though.

  • ew, did you say kerry butler was better than lea as eponine? GROSS. butler was awful as eponine. it's probably her worst role to date. i mean, i love her, but her eponine was hurrendous.

  • OMG!!!! this girl is amazing!!!!!! i wish i could sing HALF as good as her!!!!!

  • I saw her as Eponine a few years ago and she was great! My friend and I got pictures with her and "Marius" after the show! It was an amazing experience!

  • the orchestra was totally with her in the fierce department.

  • WOW

  • I love the fact she uses her chest voice and does not cop out at the end into her head voice!! AMAZING!!

  • thats her chest tone..wow!

  • When she finishes that note she doesn't even look out of breath! like it was just a little thing to do! wow! she is awesome!

  • chills chills chillssss ! she's amazing !

  • wow she is really good! she can really hold a note

  • You can say that again!

  • She can hold a note but she's really pitchy.

  • how is she pitchy?

  • shes def. good.. not my favorite.. that belongs to Frances, Kerry, and i like Gemma too.. lol.. but i love ALLLL eponines lol

  • definitely my favorite

  • 'definately' is spelled definitely

  • omg. wow. i've seen so many eponines and this one blew me away for some reason. when she like held out that D on 'pretending?' damn.

  • one of my favorite eponines... she's incredible

  • eh, not my favorite. not that great.

  • me to i agree. i like lea salongas much much better.

  • she's hot

  • does anyone know who starred in the US national tour in 2005, i think, as eponine?

  • I think it was Sutton Foster, but I'm not 100% sure....

  • the scene i would kill to see from the final show wold totally be FINAL BATTLE

  • was this the last show?

  • wow!!!!! I can't see how she holds that one note! Wonderful!

  • was this the final broadway performance?

  • AHHHHHHH incredible...she's absoultely amazing and perfect for the part

  • She reminds me of a young Sutton Foster, lovely, although Sutton's first in my book, she's doing just fine!

  • i love how she say learnin instead of learning

  • I LOVE HER I SAW HER OMY AMAZING i don't think she held the note though when isaw her

  • i love it! at least she ACTS the part... lea salonga kind of la dee das and sings really well, but i dont think she can really sell Eponine

  • I love Dianna so much! i just finished a show with her myself and she is the most amazing beautiful and caring person to work with and watching her sing this song just gives me chills. The quality of this video seems bad and she stilll sounds amazing I wish I could see her do this live.

  • Where was this filmed?

  • I saw Diana 5/11/03-a week before the final performance of the first Broadway run of Les Miz. To date, I have seen Les Miz performed 6 times, and Diana was my favorite Eponine on stage, and 2nd best Eponine only to Lea Salonga. This performance seems a little off from what I remember of her, which is someone truly amazing! She sang the song at a "Broadway on Broadway" concert-might've been in 9/02-I'd love to see that again!

  • She's all right. Hardly Lea's standard though. Although, she seems very sweet, she doesn't have the depth, sustained power or inner strength that Lea brought to Eponine. And she seems really jerky and hysterical. It just isn't a performance that I would want to watch again.

  • I had the oppurtunity to see her preform this over this past summer and let me tell you, Diana is amazing as Eponine! And she really is so sweet. I think that her fluctuation added to the character and made her more believable as Eponine. She is just amazing!

  • She's not my favorite, but she was pretty good. I was impressed by the really long not she held though. It's the first time I've heard an Eponine hold 'known' for that long.

  • A-freaking-mazing. She is very talented and just the sweetest person :)

  • I don't think she's showing off at all. The 2 versions of Les Mis I saw, both Eponines held the note as long as they could.

    Besides, the crowd loves it.

  • I actually like this!! Her voice is a little pitchy and course at times, but this was the final performance so she was probably very nervous. She pours alot of emotion and soul into it. Especially on "All my life I've only been pretending" and I adore how she held "known" out, it gave me chills!

  • You'd think they'd at least get someone who can hit the low notes though.

  • i don't care what ya'll say. Diana rocks!!!!

  • i prefer lea salonga

  • Her voice fit this song well. I saw her on tour and on Bw. As an actress, she's not in the same league as Celia Keenan-Bolger. Celia acted this part better than anyone I've seen (and that's a lot of performances).

  • Oh my god! I've heard many versions of this song but this and the mexican one are definitly my favorites! She's awsome and her way to perform it is unique!

  • someones bitter

  • i just wonder why her facial expression doesn't change with the words she's saying.

  • My friends hate that she's so "staccato" but I was like "umm...hello? she's on the stage? there's supposed to be diction so people in the back can understand?"

    lol

she's amazing. and that "known"!!! wow!!!

  • yes. and you sound like quite a catch, yourself.

  • Comment removed

  • you're a loser

  • Comment removed

  • At least I don't tell people that she's a cunt but has great tits! Gosh, you're a douche.

  • True, she probably is a little sweet to have come from the Thenardiers, but Diana has a glorious voice and it was a pleasure to see her in Les Mis all those years ago.

Look at the girls on Broadway now.. they don't hold a candle to her or Sutton.

And as far as that last note goes, as some has said before me, this was the final performance of Les Mis. She was giving the audience a little something extra, and it seems like they loved it...

  • I've never liked Diana's take on Eponine simply because her voice and acting are way too sweet and cutesy to convince as a girl who was raised by the Thenardiers and lived most of her life on the streets.

  • good sining andddd you can act

  • really unimpressed. liked her Maureen in RENT but thought that she was dull here. and holding that note out like that was a lil bit diva for eponine dont you think?

  • no i don't think that CORNELLLAW. if you did ur research, this was the LAST PERFORMANCE EVER in the original run&it's sort of an unwritten tradition where actors do a little something special or crazy/funny which wasn't rehearsed. if ur an actor like me,then you'd prolly understand. i didn't find it dull.she had a more internal approach, which works. Eponine is one of the few characters in musical theater that can be interpreted in UNLIMITED ways&this way obviously worked for the audience!

  • im not an actor but i think i can manage to comprehend the ultra-complicated concept of "showing off" that youre describing... holding a note out like that doesnt add to the character, doesnt even add to the music, it just says "look what i can do" and is a wink to the crazy fans in the audience, not in any way a tribute to the show or character itself.

please. im sure shes a sweet and obviously talented person, but come on.

  • NO,the character is very upset about not having marius in her life,&she's holding out the fact that there's a world of happiness that she has never known...it's good emphasis(for her last perf. EVER).and like you said, you're NOT AN ACTOR, so u really can't understand.MANY B'way actors have done something like this on their last perf.!u can't tell me that i'm wrong, b/c i have A LOT of experience in doing&watching theater. U really misinterpreted this performance&why she actually did that!

  • Maybe if you typed like an intelligent human being I could take the fact that you're acting like a pretentious asshole more seriously. Really, I could understand holding the note out that long, but you can't deny that halfway through her pitch fell flat as a pancake. Oh, and I'm not an actor either but that doesn't mean I can't not like the way an actor chooses to interpret a role.

  • first of all, there's no need to be arrogant and rude, coralamber! Diana barely went off pitch when she belted that C. as a person u are entitled to your opinion about her interpretation, but the other user didn't have to leave such a mean blunt comment in THE FIRST PLACE! i'm not pretentious, i just defend what i say in a straightfoward manner. and i had to type in abbreviations b/c comments only hold 500 characters. you seem like an upset person. don't worry, be happy! :-)

  • I'm sorry, but she went flat enough for me to notice and her attempt to hide it with vibrato only made it worse. If she couldn't support the note for that long, she shouldn't have done it. The other user didn't leave a blunt comment, they left their opinion, if they just said "She sucks" I could understand. Yes, you are being pretentious by assuming the person wasn't allowed to not like her holding the note out just because they weren't an actor.

  • i NEVER said that a person wasn't allowed 2 not like her holding the note out just b/c they weren't an actor!that's only what U think!the user accused her of acting like a "diva" b/c of the note.i was making a pt that an actor would understand that actors would have done something special on their LAST PERF.(like making a note a 'money note')!.how can i be pretentious when the user made an uneducated, unnecessary comment?pay attention to what u are reading b4 made such untrue comments!

  • They accused her of acting like a diva because she was showing off, you can't deny that's what she was doing. Yes, it was the last performance, but is it really worth jepordizing the integrity of the character to show off(badly) how long you can hold a note? I'm not an actor, and I know that actors do that so how do you know it was an uneducated comment? You assumed that just because they weren't an actor that they couldn't have known that.

  • 1st of all Diana Kaarina is NOT a diva.if she was a diva she'd acknowledge it,and she DIDN'T!i've what's known as"absolute perfect pitch"& i listened to the C she belted & it was only A LIL' off pitch.and obviously, that youtuber didn't know and accused anyway, therefore the comment was in fact uneducated. i DON'T assume b/c i know ppl that aren't actors and know theater traditions. ONLY YOU'D accuse me of assuming b/c u prolly don't read what i write carefully enough!

  • The original commenter said it was a diva move because she was showing off. They never said she was a diva, just that showing off how long you can hold a note is a diva thing to do. Like I said, she fell flat enough for me to notice, and the exesive vibrato she used to hide just made it more obvious. You say you don't assume, yet you clearly did when you said the person wouldn't understand why she did it simply because they weren't an actor.

  • enough! she isn't a show off! and long notes ususally end in vibrato anyway! the person ovbviously didn't know and with God as my witness i DID NOT assume b/c the person accused ans assumed thensleves and i was only making a pt by saying that as an actor i could defend this video! i have better things to do than listen to ur nonsense! so if you wanna be infantile and have the last word then go right ahead :-)!

  • ok, let's go with this then. Obviously the way you said things sounded wrong to me. It's easy to be misinterpreted over the internet especially when you're restrained to a 500 figure limit. I think one thing, you think another, let's leave it at that and not be bitter.

  • yes, that works! :-)

  • Oh and I left a comment on one of your videos, the one where you sang Blue Wind. Don't worry I wasn't insulting you, you have a good voice and I love Spring Awakening.

  • thanks!

  • Her pitch did kind of go all over the place towards the end of that note. I didn't notice it until I read your comment but it's definitely there.

  • sye isn't the first to hold that note

  • completely agree, and by the way cornellaw, it seems like she got a much better response from the audience than you thought, clearly you don't understand theater types, so, best if you don't try. thanks though. Wow, she is amazing, if i could hold a note like that i dont think i would hesitate

  • she accutally isn't the first eponine to ever hold that note that long, she is howwever the only 1 to ever kiss marius atthe ned of littl fall of rain

  • really? she's supposed to, i think. good for her.

  • also if u notice the orcestra kept up with her then stopped when she did that cannot be improvised your taught in the orcestra to hold it as long as the music says unless told other wise she had to of mentioned to do it like other epoinines have done

  • i don't know which comment of mine that you're replying to or which reply to mine is yours (confusing? lol). but generically speaking, she had the liberty to hold it out being that it was her last show and b/c she's freakin' amazing. like i said i don't know which comment you replied to, so i don't have a perfect answer.

  • yea but during her whole run she held that note and other eponines before her held that note it wsn't uncommon

  • exactly, she has the right to do that. whether it's common or uncommon, ppl who diss that, prolly don't understand end-of-their-run traditions.

  • Ok when diana sand "Known" she wasnt being ridiculous...it was the last performance and she was doing her absolute best =] she did amazinggg i did this as a solo for dance this year and it was great for spinning <3

  • Thanks for posting that video. Seen Dianna sing "On MY Own numerous times, and that by far was the best. She will go down as one of the best Eponines to ever play the role.

  • spaceman24, if u really like Diana Kaarina, she just created a youtube account "DKaarina" and she has her own music vid on there.

  • This performence was in 2005 right?

  • no, the show closed in 2003.

  • I love Diana. I saw Les Mis a month before it closed, with her as Eponine, and I blame all the ensuing Les Mis obsessing completely on her. She sings if differently then anyone else, as more of a discovery of the fact that she's pretending. And she has the perfect voice, clear and crystal and sharp. The first half actually sounds like a 16 year old girl daydreaming, like it's supposed to, not a 24 year old woman. She is Eponine. That's all there is to it.

  • thank you omg! you couldn't read my mind any clearer lol! she ACTUALLY sounds the part!

  • I think she's really great. Her singing has grown on me, and really her belt is killer. I think she has a better belt than Celia.

  • i think she is the best eponine out there. she does what a broadway actor is supposed to do: act. the words "pretending" and "(never) known" are huge discovery points for eponine and diana emphasizes so largely to really emphasize their importance. she is GREAT.

  • I thought when she sang "known" it was kind of ridiculous. She was just trying to show off how long she could hold a note, but it sounded stupid in context with the song. Also, you can barely hear her in some parts of the song, which is kind of annoying...

  • she´s not ridiculous she is awsome!

  • when and where did she perform this?

  • I've seen this clip before. It was her last preformance on broadway before the show closed. My theory is that's why she held "known" out for so long.

  • I still loved Natalie Toro's Eponine (Broadway, late 80s). Anyone know what ever happened to her?

  • all i need to say is..."known" that is the best i have ever seen that part. the rest was fine. but man...

  • I loved her too..and I saw les mis when she was in it and she was damn good..you try to hit that amazing note..

  • i think shes great. i dont know whats wrong with all you people.

  • She has a nice voice but she's definately not my favorite.

  • Wow. I was going to give the performance 4/5 stars, but then she got to the word "known". 5 stars, amazing.

  • Unlike a lot of Eponine's, she really acts the piece which is nice to see... she's totally in character and you can really see her love for Marius... plus her "known" was amazing.
