the mazdaspeed 3 has repro?... or only intake, exhaust and suspension.... i want to buy my first car.. i don´t know which to choose, 2008 vw gti mk5 dsg or manual... 2008 mazdaspeed 3 stock .... 2009 audi a3 1.8 tfsi with apr stage2 (238 whp) DSG 7... bmw e46 330ci stock... bora 2.0 tsi.... cupra 2.0 241hp 2009.... thanks and sorry for my english it´s not good....
i think the vw gti dsg is the best option becouse dsg is comfortable...but i love manual T...
This is a cool video for me. I love the Boxster S but couldn't find one at a reasonable price so I went with a 2010 Mazdaspeed 3. Both are bitchen cars to drive and great performers.
I wonder when the first serious redesign of the Boxster will happen. It's gotta be soon.......
Your racing lines are better than his... he's waiting too long to turn and then jerks it into the turn. Maybe he's doing that to try to fling the rear end around, but with FWD its just not going to work and I think this makes his exit slower than it could be.
I think if you drove your friend's MS3 you'd get faster times than you did in your Boxter.
@KittyKranker Do what I did and buy an e30 :) Keep the ms3 and spend a couple grand on an e30, they are rwd, excellent weight displacement, and have that handling like a european sports car.
Guy in the Porsche looked like a better driver but I would take ms3 > Boxster, all that practicality then putting down those kinds of laps at the track is damn impressive to me.
So were you trying to catch/pass the MS3, or was this vid to film him? Just curious cuz I own a bone stock 2010 MS3. It's cool to think I could track it and potentially not look stupid.
So cool! This shows that with a few mods, the ms3 can run with some serious sports cars - it's a great bargain. Still, if I had the $, I'd buy a Porsche.
HOLY SH&#!!!****This is the Grand Turismo 13 for the PS6 year 2025. Real Life Race Simulator, probably have to buy your own official helmet & gloves. Im gonna start saving up for this one!
The MS3 seems to be good also (I own one, but never had the chance to track) but from experience since it's a traction, it's a slow-in, fast-out type of driving so while corners have to be taken slower than most propultion cars, the traction allows you to accelerate while going out the corner which seems to make sense looking at the type of driving.
Take a look at the Cobb Tuning MS3 vid. It explains how the MS3 drives in corners very well. Basically being FWD there is a lot of understeer on the stock car going into corners, the sway bar/spring kit from Cobb corrects this nicely.
Generally speaking, the Boxster S did have higher exit speeds and can break deeper into the turns. Actually, my lap times were about 3 sec. faster than the MS3 (2:03:357 @ 87.550mph avg v. 2:06:403 @ 85.441mph avg).
jscribn1... Fantastic driving, my friend! Fantastic driving! MS3 is a great car, too. Especially for the money. If it didn't snow all the time here in Illinois, I'd trade my WRX in for one :) I hope Cobb comes out with the AccessPort for the MS3 soon!
I would not say the top end, but midrange torque is where it runs well with truly fast (expensive) cars. Beyond 130 or 140mph or certainly by the top of 6th gear, I'm sure the Boxter or an M3 would pull away. That said, I love mine -- it's fast enough at the track and is an outstanding practical daily driver.
holy shit that speed3 is fast. I'd think that a RWD vehicle would easily out handle a FWD, but that speed3 looks mighty comfortable tackling those corners
That really depends on what year boxster s, since newer ones make close to 300 hp and are lighter/more aerodynamic cars then the ms3.
Also you can see the line the boxster s is taking before the long straight does not give as much speed coming out of the corner as the one the ms3 takes.
Agreed on all points. I would add that given how fast it is, I would stiffen up the suspension especially with more damping (then track wheels/tires & maybe brakes) before even thinking about more power. It really does not need power to run with the big dogs, but it does need to be buttoned down better when you're going over 100mph. At VIR there is a small hump (not even visible, but you feel it) right at the kink in the front straight that floats the rear end a bit.
I've seen the same - probably the same source though. In this situation, an E46 M3 had nothing on it in the straights. MS3 has less weight and more torque, but I'm sure the Bimmer would pull away once I got to the top of 6th where my torque falls off and without another upshift left. Past, say 130mph or maybe 140. Doubt I'll ever want to go that fast at VIR without some suspension mods.
really great videos, good camera possition, etc. The MS3 sure pulls hard on the st8's! Question, was that a Cayman in the begining of the vid? and if so what happened to it? I thought those things were supposed to be track monsters?
Not obvious but the track was still a little damp from rain throughout the day. Main straight is also used by NHRA drags and INCREDIBLY slippery when wet. I didn't fully track-out there for this reason. Also, strong winds in T1 (end main straight) and T2 were a bit unsettling and kept speeds down some.
My lap times are ~3 sec. quicker than the MS3. On dry, I don't think it pulls as hard in the straights but I can't run on it either. Make no mistake, the MS3 is a very impressive car.
Right back to you js. I made my first track run at VIR a couple weeks ago with my MS3. I've put over 30,000 miles on it and was still amazed at how fast it was in the 50 to 120MPH range. Never got faster than that.
Rode with my instructor in his Boxster S while he made it do things I had no idea a car could do! I'll ever make the MS3 rotate and launch off the apex like a Boxster.

It appears that you are more consistent with your racing line than the MS3 driver. Well done.

wow impressive, for both cars and drivers. is it just me, or does the porsche have a faster corner exit speed?

Fun to watch! Thanks for posting. I love my MS3. I drive it more often than my 480HP STi; around town the MS3 is more fun... and loads quieter. :)
