still i have a question........ the kata is done like it is but is this traditional way? its obvious that observer does not recognise the power in this performance of kata! How do You robopablo explain us what is going on during the performance? Is there any kind of inner energy or something?
@ekkenaab I guess id depends on your definition of traditional. I think this is mostly associated with Tomari Te and is in our system via Shorinji Ryu. It's different than the "standard" versions in that it's brought more in line with Matsumura principles. In this video, I was doing it as a camera test in that space & decided to post it for my students, since it's pretty slow. I practice it about 3 different ways. "Power" in this kata is positioning & angles, mostly.
@robopablo thank You for Your very good answer! I am not at all familiar to that "traditional way" of doing katas. Can You explain please what is "Your system" and tell something about "Matsumura principles" You mentioned?
@ekkenaab They don't give us enough characters for that. :) My web site is in my profile, with links to our Federation. Also you can see some in the other videos on the page. Thank you for asking a question instead of being rude!
@robopablo You welcome, Sir! I am very beginner in that area but it is very interesting for me, that is why i ask lot of questions! I will look forward on Your website and Your Federation website! Thank You for answering me!
It's a shame that you can't put all your aggression into your kata. They might be worth watching, then. Yes, I am an "assistant" sensei. So is the other 4th dan I teach with. We both teach under a 5th dan, who teaches under an 8th dan. Do you scare anyone? If your fighting lacks the skill and intensity that your katas do, you should be wearing a diaper instead of a gi. Why don't you post a video of you competing in the toddler division of some kiddy tournament? We all could use the laugh.
@senseisakornsin Wow! Based on all your posts, look i the mirror concerning aggression. You're setting a fine example for your students and a great reflection on your instructors. Well done! Now go work on manners and your kata comprehension. You've shown why you need supervision...
@senseisakornsin it seems that you are very upset about a video that someone you don't even know has uploaded. Maybe you should put more aggression into your kata, and less into you're YouTube comments, and you might want to think about switching to decaf coffee.
I would challenge you to ask the 8th dan that you are under if there is only one way to properly do kata? Is it always 100% power and intensity? I'd guess not.
@senseisakornsin So what's your point? You don't see enough kata? If you don't understand, ask a question. It's nicer. I notice you have no video of your own posted...
@robopablo Blah blah blah! Just like every move you fluffed off in that kata. No wonder you can't find people who do your kata like you do. Most people take pride in how they perform katas. Do you really think that any blocks or strikes you exhibited would've been effective?
@senseisakornsin Um...what? I can see why you're still an assistant instructor. Kid's class, I imagine? I took a few minutes to research your background. If you'd taken a few to look at mine, you'd see why I can "find" plenty of folks doing that kata like I do...which is one of the ways it can be performed...and the other ways it can be done, as well. Yes, the strikes/blocks work just fine. Train a awhile longer and maybe you'll understand what kata is, sir. You're still just seeing the surface.

¡Gracias!
Ahh...I wasn't taught that...nor do I let myself be spoon fed. We do shorin ryu. Kise Hanshi taught shorinji a few decades ago, but switched to Matsumura Seito over 5 decades ago. If you're learning shorinji, then that may be why you do it that way, but Kise Hanshi hasn't for at least 20 years, that I know of. I'm not really current on shorinji applications.
ahh. me sensei teaches ORIGINAL SHORIN RYU. he's told me about kise sensei and about how he changed his style and made it easier and less usefull and still calls it original matsumura seito. but ours is the original. and by the way my sensei is sensei ronnie lindsey.
yes master fusei kise has "commercialized" the style, but it doesn't mean that it is necessarily less useful. And just because your sensei says that your style is the "original" style doesn't really mean a thing... It just means that your sensei is teaching you what he was taught originally.
I meant ours is stripped, meaning fewer techniques. I disagree with you about the stance, though. You can use the stance a couple of ways. I see power coming from the stance, but the real power, as I see it, comes from the crane elements and tai sabaki in there. I practice it 4 ways, fast and fluid, slow and distinct, the way it's shown here and "hard" using a more static stance. There's more than one way to skin a kata.
Don't know your style, but there are techniques in there that are also seen in ananku. (I would call it an observation, rather than opinion.) There are elements and techniques that cross many kata. I think both of these have a lot of obvious crane in them. I don't think they had "mash-ups" back then. :)
