I have the same guitar as he uses in this film. And once I was with him and he is really a shy person with a wonderfulle caracter !!!! Love Walter !!! Greetings from Belgium.
Nice one Walt! I've see this man play live... and the man can play! What a great band to support him - your a dude Sammy! Respect to Jimmy Trapp! John Lee Hooker is an inspiration - Walter is not being disrespectfull to JLH, far from it!! Keep on going Walt!!
To put an end to this discussion: This video is just a snippet from his show and seen out of place it may seem like he was making fun of John Lee Hooker. But together with the other comments he made during the show about Hooker and Mayall I don't think the thought he'd make fun of Hooker even occured to anyone in the audiance. That was a friendly and respectful remembrance from a friend who stands above the doubt of making fun of Hooker just like noone thinks I'd make fun of my friends.
I've just lost a little respect for Trout. Still think he is a great player but no need for him to mock publicly a legend who is now deceased. Should keep his comedy act private. That definetly is not how to show respect..
"ShowtimeJohnnyPal" - I sure don't see Trout as a 'buddyf*cker' because he was havin' some fun with ol' John Lee's growl. I didn't see anything at ALL 'meanspirited' in his comments....I think, instead, that is was actually very nice of him to RECOGNIZE the debt he and others owe to the old fella.
But then, I guess you're entitled to YOUR opinion, too....
If Trout played with Hooker, had fun and thanks him, he's got a negative way of showing it. He makes fun of Hook for that sweet southern accent and raspy voice. Conversely, the "How how how how," and "They got a lot of nice girls down there!" as Billy Gibbons said - acknowledges, not denegrates Hook's character. Trout acts superior to Hook, a dead man, and that is career suicide. We call that being a "buddyfucker." Showtime Johnny Pal
WOW you people on this site are completely retarted! Opinions are like assholes as the saying goes, everyone has one, there seem to be more assholes here than a proctologists office.
As you say its all tast so why even bother to ask the question you asked?.BTW he said rock blues .theres an argument that none of the players you have mentioned are actually rock blues.
Whose aregument? Absolutely the guys I mentioned are "rock blues guitarists",I could also throw Stevie Ray Vaughn in there. SO...why are your sleeves in a flutter? As I said, it IS all a matter of taste, and when someone calls this guy the "best blues rock guitarist of them all", I feel that is a statement of fact, and I don't agree! So what? Take a valium and put on your head set man...It's all debateable...However, I would love to hear how you don't think my guys are rock blues guitarists, LOL!
Well thats why i felt the need to post ,because in one sentence you contradict a walter fan on a walter vid, and then go on to say its all taste, which with this understanding is reason enough not to contradict his opinion in the first place,do you see my point ? .and please dont think i have my panties in a bunch, i was more puzzled than pissed .if you want me to present an argument about why i do not see them as rock blues i will .but im not wasting my energy if it was rhetorical.lol
Blues has never been about who the "best" guitar player is, get that through your head, its about soul and expression, stop comparing guitarists, none of them will say that they are the best because they dont care, all of the guys like Trout, Gatton, Clatopn, Buchanan got their influence from a series of guitarists who came before them and added to it, as did the guitarists before them, and thats what blues is, its ever changing, there isn a "bestever"
That's your opinion, remember that, Your opinion! When you see mad skills like Roy Buchanan people give them recognition! In my opinion he was light years ahead of Walter Trout, and most others as well. So get this through YOUR head, people have opinions!
who is better or who's not,to compare two guitarists makes no sense to me..they are all good in his ways, it is all about the blues guys...come on, sotp arguing and enjoy it.
He told me, last Friday night, that the old one is his main one, but, this one is his "road guitar." He said that if something happened to the "battered" one (as you call it), he'd hafta start killing people! lol
@coulsonsam87 this show is in europe. you notice no one else has their usual instruments either. I'm sure they just rent instruments when they cross the pond. its what most mid-level bands do.
I don't think Nickovitch ever saw Stevie Ray playing live. Walter Trout is a great player, but he doesn't come close to Stevie Ray. Stevie Ray was the king of 'em all. Nothing can compare to actually being there seeing him play live. The greatest guitar player of all time, that's all there is to it. Nobody else can come close.
Bonamassa should drink out his milk and practice at home not on stage. But anyway, there are only extremely very few people who have really the capability to play a strat. Trout is one of them.
Who,s this dude ?

they make a great pub band - the kind where the lead guitarist turns everything to 11 and doesn't know when to shut up.

The battered strat is probably too valueable to gig it is 73 a and worth a tiny fortune, and probably thought it might get stolen.

rab230, 110% true! Just had the thrill of the Ferry 17th October. WT has some good patter on JLH and Canned Heat.
Had a choice (not really) that night, Walter Trout (in it through talent) or Spandau (back in it for the cash).
BTW the support band P-A-U-L were rocking too.
See Walter and his excellent band when you can!

Not at all. He is good, but certainly not the best. Ever hear of Roy Buchanan, or Danny Gatton, Eric Clapton, ETC...
Walter is great, but alas, it is all a matter of taste:-)
