In JL, they used John just to ensure that there is an ethnic mixture in the team, just so that certain ppl dont keep throwing ridiculous complaints about why are all the characters white. It's a cartoon after all, so i dont see why ppl complain about race, as long as the dignity of their race isn't defiled.
