Both songs have really common chord progression. Both songs have melodies based on triad chord tones. Both songs use absolutely obvious rhythms. If Satch wins I'm pretty sure someone else will be able to sue him on exactly the same grounds and cite his case as a precedent.

Really dude? Are you serious? Joe Satriani has way more experience and talent than Coldplay. He is sueing him because the song is completely identical! I'm sure Coldplay fans are going to defend them, but regardless, they still stole the song. And the ignorance coming from the video is pretty sad man. Of course most music is going to be a bit copied from time to time. But it is WAY to similar for that to be the case!

Both songs have really common chord progression. Both songs have melodies based on triad chord tones. Both songs use absolutely obvious rhythms. If Satch wins I'm pretty sure someone else will be able to sue him on exactly the same grounds and cite his case as a precedent.

wow, you're a tool. chord progression is the same, rhythm is the same... hell, the Tempo for both songs both sit at about 135-140 BPM... not to mention the melody in the chorus is almost exactly like the vocal melody. in order to escape plagiarism, you have to change 30%... if a song is made up of Rhythm, Harmony, and Melody then cold play sits at 80% unchanged... they're pretty much fucked... and no, joe doesn't need the lawsuit for press, its pretty well established he kicks ass on the guitar

if a person chooses to write instrumental music won't make it in life then what about The Ventures, Jeff Beck, Eric Johnson, and Dick Dale. They have all made it in music and their music lives on.
You just need to face the fact that Coldplay sucks and is gonna lose the case, and deal with the fact that they got caught.

kid get an f'n clue. even if coldplay weren't influenced by satriani's song you can literally play the 2 songs over each other and they sounded IDENTICAL. give coldplay credit for lyrics? yea...that's really hard. viva la vida doesn't sound "a bit" like it, it sounds JUST like it, which is the first thing a court will try to determine. from a non bias legal standpoint coldplay will prbly have to prove they didn't intentionally copy it. which they prbly can't. u may like coldplay, but face facts

It's probably because of his huge fanbase constantly emailing him about this controversy that made him decide to actually start a lawsuit.
