  • greetings from Wigan England. My family loved this xxx

  • Great series...great theme music..great cast. Nuff said.

  • The majestic theme music (and the scoring) was by the great Alex North. His music made Rich Man, Poor. Man

  • Ah, I know that they're passe, but I miss the all-star TV mini-series with the long opening credit murals (East of Eden, Roots)

  • I remember watching this first series in the mid-seventies when the Olympics were on BBC. But ITV showed it across consecutive nights throughout the week, and had their own version of the opening.....basically just a scrolling list of credits at the beginning, and with a short-version of the theme. I so enjoyed it though!

  • YAAAAAY, it's available on DVD!! :)

  • Damn what was the artist smoking when he did William Smith @ 1:20...That looked nothing like him.

  • the best television ever, every body at the top of their game, but nick nolte stole the show.

  • I had a crush on Susan Blakely, loved her lips.

  • Me too I just got mine, I had been looking for it for years...

    I love this min-series...

    A real classic...

  • c'etait les samedi soir de mon enfance (merci pour ce souvenir) !

  • Finally, this great miniseries is on DVD!!!

  • I remember when I cried when Falconetti killed Tom by hammer or somethin' ... I was eight years old. My father had to appease me... It was almost 30 years ago.

  • Oh wow I vividly remember this miniseries.

  • Without a doubt, first class made for TV movie. Actually, it was called "A Novel for Television," the first of it's kind, i.e., based on a novel and brought to the small screen. It was enthralling and millions watched it from start to finish. You HAD to be home when it was on because there were no recording devices that allowed you to watch it at your convenience. The cast was fabulous, the acting first-rate and the story was terrific. Why is this not on DVD?

  • @Catamaran88 it IS on dvd : )

  • Super ... Very moving ;)

  • Oh my - I can't believe it. I have been looking for this for years!!!!!! My best friend spent ??? hours looking for it for me. She passed away last year, and I so wish I could phone her and tell her I found it on You Tube. She would be as blown away as I am. Thank you so very much.

  • @dancingbutrfli i remember this mini seris as a kid... oh my my mom loved this ... but that wife susan blakely was a hoe

  • I ordered the DVD collection three years ago, books 1 and 2. It reminded me of childhood and teen memories. So I watched the WHOLE collection in 4 days!!!

My eyes were like Zombie eyes afterwards, but I don't care, I love this series!

  • @shitonMOHAMMAD

correction 2 and a half days!

  • I DON'T know WHY the drawing of William Smith looked NOTHING like him,yet everyone else in the cast was gotten right..and WS was the BEST in the series?

  • This was a riveting series, the first of its genre - the miniseries - and one of the finest ever made. A shame it's not on DVD. I don't understand why producers don't get the product out there and let it earn more money for them. Morons!

  • All star cast, good story line. Why can't they make shows of this nature now???!!

  • One of my chilfhood series... Marvellous!!!

  • btw Thank you for posting.

  • I tried to find this series on DVD but it's unavailable yet. I was influenced by it back in '76. Empathized with Nic Nolt's character. Met the Love of my life that year.

  • wondelful miniserie¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
