  • i'm have microsoft sound mapper outpu.t i have windows 7 there's nothing being recorded.

  • I seem to get a lot of questions still regarding this video. You may be better off if you have twitter by asking questions, if you have twitter at: @AshleyM300

Just make sure the question is in reference to this video if you do.

  • umm.. on site there is ac97 driver and HD audio.. how i know which one is right one for my pc?

  • @Anime4everOyokrae I guess you could either look in your PC manual or product info on manufacturer website (if you bought a commercial computer). If not you need to find out your motherboard & then visit the website & do the same for that. 1st of all you could check in device manger to check under sound, video & game controllers if it tells you there.

  • In Audacity in Edit, Preferences and Devices, I can select Microsoft Sound Mapper Output as the playback device but under Recording devices it says no devices found?

  • The only recording options in Windows 7 for me are Microphone, Front Mic or Line In. I don't see an option for Microsoft Sound Mapper Input? I have an Asrock z68 Extreme4 Gen3 board with Realtek chip.

  • That summed it up for me mate, but I just find it easier to record into Cool Edit Pro 2.

Plus I can treat the recordings (samples) before exporting them to my DAW before chopping them.

  • Hey i got the same problem as dcl4ws people can hear my windows and all that and my voice could anyone help me?

  • On my PC i got Realtek AC 97 Audio does this mean i have a mic built into my PC its xp i bought a mic but it records sound from the pc A.ka if i would play Call of Duty it would be gunshots coming out my mic not my voice how can i fix this

  • @Dcl4ws I wouldn't know I guess you are talking about a laptop? Even then it depends wether they decided to connect a mic to the laptop & the soundcard internally or not. Usually more than not if it's an Laptop it will have a built in microphone.

When you plug in another microphone in the jack it should overide that one. If you have sounds coming out of your microphone then you have connected it to the wrong jack.

  • i have it but i cant record myself like i can but after i play it theres no sound do u need a webcam for this

  • Thank you so much! I've been looking for a way to record off the sound card (my laptop does it without a problem with audactiy) and this work perfectly . Thank you!

  • Well done, Mate!! I'd completely given up on ever getting to record with Audacity, but now - problem solved. You are a star!

  • I want a MIDI CONTROLLER on my REALTEK, will it works without DELAY? (my pc is good and i have installed ASIO4ALL yet..) But using my general keyboard from PC have a little bit of delay (just a little bit).

  • @Luckzzz Reduce the buffer size (Pull the slider back to the left) in ASIO4ALL as far as you can with out sound degredation. This will reduce the latency

  • @AshleyM300 yeah i did it, that's why i have yet a lil' bit of delay. It improved but get less worst. I wanted to know if Realtek AC'97 accepts a midi controller and with it, has some delay? :) Anyway, thanks for the info, and if you can help me, please!

  • @Luckzzz well if you can use a usb controller on a free USB port it should be fine. Other wise I not sure that there is an old type midi connection for AC97.

If there is an gmae or joystick ort on the sound card connectors sometimes you can get a midi to joystick port adapter. But anyway you can get a 'midi to USB' adapter cheap online.

  • @AshleyM300 Thanks man! You help a future DJ. If I became famous will give credits to you. lol. I got no Delay with ASIO now. The solution was reduce the buffer (and not increase like I did before). I can play with my general pc keyboard, but in future I'll buy a midi. My realtek doesn't support Midi entrance. I'll have to buy this adapter and pray for no delay, but I guess it will not have, 'cause I play guitar with pedal without latency . Thanks man :)

  • So this tutorial, AshleyM300, is like then you use Stereo Mix? Is it to record what you hear coming out of the speaker, or the just the audio emitting from the PC system itself, that you're trying to teach us? If so, great job :D Top Dollar 10/10 !

  • @Luka1180 ..Yes, exactly that. If you wish you can record audio from an Div-X film for example or a video game for whatever reason.. say if you want to include audio in a track / song you were making (from the video or game).

If your using it to record say a guitar, keyboard or DJ set as well as the above make sure you switch the system sounds off in control panel!! As every single email 'ping' etc will also be recorded.

  • Realtek HD Audio does not support the input stereo mix line and mic input line separately. There for my input mixers are greyed out.! (which is probably why your doing this workaround)

I contacted support at realteck and they're saying it's our motherboards that should support this. Not sure what's going on and if everyone with this problem has the same motherboard or what?

  • @dodico20 if you want to add the front panel input connections to your motherboard you have to disable HD front panel audio in the driver.

The Realtek chips update all the time along with drivers & OS . In Win 7 64 & one of the latest drivers I don't have to do this anymore, it gives full control on the line & mic inputs. You could try an updated driver.

Things have changed & this video might not help people anymore but for those people that it can I will leave it up

  • @AshleyM300 I think you thought I was talking about the physical connections at the front of the tower and lost me. Or maybe were on the same page lol Answer me this, can you change that white box in Audacity that's blanked out? On my old pc, old sound card, there is an option to select input line in,. mic, input, stereo mix, etc. with Audacity. Are you now able to do that or is it still blanked out for you? because all the latest motherboard and realteck drivers do not solve it for me.

  • @dodico20 With the new drivers & new HD Audio chip (its on an ASROCK P55 board) I can select the line in tab properly again yes.

  • @AshleyM300 Thanks, that summed it up. Guess I will have to contact my motherboard manufacture and see what's up.I'm guessing they have the new drivers for my board with windows 7 and vista. just not xp yet.

  • @AshleyM300 Thanks, that summed it up. Guess I will have to contact my motherboard manufacture and see what's up.I'm guessing they have the new drivers for my board with windows 7 and vista. just not xp yet.

  • @AshleyM300 Thanks, that summed it up. Guess I will have to contact my motherboard manufacture and see what's up.I'm guessing they have the new drivers for my board with windows 7 and vista. just not xp yet seeing as I downgraded from vista.

  • this video is such a waste of time. and yeah, your accent is disgusting.

so what you ACTUALLY have to do is, open recording devices from volume control, right click on the list, show disabled devices. then you'll have to see the realtek stereo mix device coming up. restart audacity to see it as an option. the sound to be recorded must be go through the same card's speaker output (not digital).

you may also have to fiddle with front panel settings in bios and realtek manager.

  • @gradinkov for your information cleverdick you will notice I have the flu if you analyzed my voice closely enough, that's why it sounds bad! Someone asked me if I knew a work around so I put it up, just so happens I had flu @ the time.

& it does work there are comments by people it's helped below. Equipment changes & OS changes (especially laptops) just add to the mix of problems available.

  • I dont have map sound input -.-, fuck my laptop

  • thanks it helped

  • i was recording my voice and it stutters when i play it and its not about the playback..the recorded sound itself is stuttering and repeating syllables of my voice...ive tried all other programs that could record so the program is not the problem..what is???

  • @tonita88 - hmm maybe this could be a driver problem or maybe even registry troubles. I would download the lastest Realtek driver instal & try that see if it makes a difference. & also download the free app 'ccleaner' just google 'CCLEANER' & run it so it can sort out any registry problems.

  • @tonita88 Deactivate Stereo Mix

  • it's in the recording section & if you right click on microphone & select disable. It should be disabled.

If you need to turn it back on at some point just do the same thing again & this time enable it

  • ashley could you please help on this. how can i disable in control panels? its in sound and audio devices right? then is it on speaker settings? or in audio properties in sound playback or sound recording? what should i do exactly? and disabling the built in microphone from where? would i still use the same microphone on mixcraft?

  • could yo help me as i downloaded mixcraft and its making a loud noise as a play a song or try to record. you cant hear the song only the loud noise i tried changing the preference wave as its the only available but nothings working. could it be the sound card? if yes how could i check that...? even when i take out my headphone which has a built in mic it still makes the same noise on laptop speakers. my sound card is realtek! how can i get updates? where?

  • @davidss96 Oh this is likely because you have an in built microphone on the laptop. You can briefly disable it in control panels audio options

  • @davidss96 Deactivate Stereo Mix

  • i did everything exactly you said and it still won't record sounds. It'll record in the built-in video program that came with vista, but not in audacity. What do i need to do? :c

  • @AZUREkiteMAN

right click/properties & get windows to run in windows xp compatibility mode & then try it again

  • I have a question, in realtek audio you can change the environment to auditorium, stone corridor, bathroom, concert hall... etc. how do you record it with those effects ?

  • hmm I would think if you are using this method then it sould record it just as you hear it. So it would record the effects too.

  • I tried but it didnt work =[

  • THANKS SO MUCH

  • I have another method of fixing this issue. see if thats helpful too. I myself was having much problems as well. but everything works great now

  • I use avs video editor any tips to have the best sound ?

  • I have a weird problem I start recording then randomly the amplitude of the sound signal lowers And the sounds somehow sounds from inside a barrel and has a sort of flanger to it. Has anyone got an idea what that might be?

  • you might have some audio effect like 'hall' or similar on there that need switching off, If i can remember the realtek drivers utility has options for this

  • I checked all the Realtek SoundCard settings and nothing. I uninstalled the ASIO drivers and now it works a lot better, but still sometimes it happens.

  • The video is quite long and is taking a while to load, so I'll just ask here. What exactly do I select under recording in Audacity to record straight from the speakers with Realtek HD audio (oboard MOBO sound)

  • I dont have a hd one i dont think so anyways but it should still work with the ac97 one

  • @count3rculture yes it should work the same, on the 'recording' option just set for sound mapper 'input'

what version of windows are you using ? on windows seven (7) I had to set the compatibility mode to run in windows xp service pack3 mode to get audacity to run right. it might also help in Vista

  • reply and tell me what you think has gon wrong if possible as it is getting tedious and i think i have done everything that you have said

    Thankyou

  • i am having problems with my audacity , i have tried all of the preferences like ie; windows soundmapper and c media wave device and others . and the others i have tried all the audio recording options like line in, cd audio, aux, wave and stereo mix .

I have realtek ac97 and the other bits and a mic with a standard jack /the small one.I plugged it in the front mic port and back mic port on my pc and does not recor anything i think ive done all realtek mic setting have i gon rong somwere?

  • Thanks for the help.

And I apologize for accidentally rating it one star when I meant to X out of a window next to the rating option. :/ Youtube wouldn't let me change my rating.

Anyways, five stars. Once again, thanks for the help.

  • maybe you could try an external soundcard or USB sound card instead ?

  • I did exactly what you said, but it still doesnt record? Thanks for making the video though!

  • =O nice video man! Do you know whats the difference between shared mode and exclusive mode with this realtek audio? Like how do you run things in shared mode lol.

  • heyyy I got troubles with the AC97 sound onboard. I ve installed latest driver for mainboard, I also checked settings in bios. do u guyz ve an Idea wats wrong?

  • whats the problem with the ac 97 you have ?

  • I ve no sound

  • is it activated in BIOS ?

  • hmmm good Idea let me check. thx for Information :)

  • My vista computer uses realtek high definition. And I ues stereo mix recording divce to record sound from the computer using the audio editor "Audacity." It does work, but when I play it back, it sounds a little muffled. Do you know a way to fix this? Does it have something to do with enhancement from stereo mix properties? Or does it have to do with realtek high definition on the vista computer?

  • have you tried adjusting the levels to a reasonable level ? sometimes a recording can sound muffled if it starts to distort or overdrive

  • need help with my microphone please help! /watch?v=IsJAmTrKRGo

  • It worked. Thanks!

  • Hello, I am having a problem. I am running Xp on a desktop with AC'97.

What I want to do is recored my PC sounds and such, but I cannot find a way to do it. I followed your steps religiously, and it still didnt work.

So I found out both line in and microphone were muted. I unmuted them. Still didnt work.

What am I doing wrong here?

  • I am unsure, have you followed the set up in options on audacity correctly ?

It would appear some still have trouble with doing this while others don't.

  • how can i record directly to computer with music i import to audacity without recording the music again???im using xp...hope u can help

  • Hi dan, I'm not sure I understand ?

You can still use Audacity the same way as Vista in XP. It seems Vista appears to be where people are having trouble doing this. You shouldn't really have any trouble doing it with XP.

once its been recorded in audacity you can export it as a .wav file (or Mp3 with the plugin)

  • haah..im sure u dun...i dun even understand myself...haha...wat i mean is i covered a song...i import the song to audacity and played along...but wat i recorded is not only my guitar but the song as well...i only wan to record the guitar and not the song...i hope u get wat i mean...and do u noe how to fix it?

  • Oh ok, what you should of done then was used two stereo tracks. Record the song first, that goes into one track. Then record your guitar part along side in a new track under neath. then You can delete the original songs track leaving the guitar part.

Or rip the song to mp3, play it in media player while you record the guitar part in audacity while still listening to it

  • ouh now i noe how to do it...thnx man!!!u helped alot...haha

  • hey one more problem though...when im recording originals and im recording a new track, the first track can be heard...how do i make it like it doesnt make any sound?ive already done the no sounds thing in control panel..

  • oh yeah, thats because the way we set it up to get reatek to record it will record everything that plays through the sound card. Is there any chance you could put head phones on using one ear cup & play the original through a stereo while you record the guitar into your computer?

  • i tried but it still record evryting...

  • what I mean is play the original song from your stereo or cd player (HI-FI) & just record the guitar into your PC .

Then you can still hear it to play along to it but only you on your guitar gets recorded

  • ouh...but the problem is i am my own original song...which is impossible for me to play through stereo or cd player...

  • I'm not too sure what you can do about this dan other than getting a new soundcard that will let you specify which source you want to record, & which you don't

  • ouh its ok then...thnx for ur help aniwae...appreciate it man...

  • Following all the instructions, it still didnt wrk.......But I did find a way!

In control panel open the sound settings, then in the empty space below the devices listed, right click.

    Tick 'show diabled devices'.

Click on 'Recording' tab and select ''Stereo mix' open properties and enable the device.

Then go into Audacity's prefrecencs and change the playback device to 'Speakers (realtek high defin)' and change the recording device to 'Stereo Mix (realtek high defin)'

    Hope it helps :)

  • Worked great! Thanks!

  • this sounds like ass

  • you will still have to watch your input levels 'the red bar'

& adjust with the slider for it underneath. Also the input slider for your line in or mic in on the mixer in control panel. Or else it will overdrive / distort

  • When going to my Control panel and click on Realtek HD audio nothing happends it's reallyu frustating do you know anything

  • are you using vista or XP ? sounds like Vista, XP gives less hassle with this.

Sometimes in Vista you can right click the audio icon bottom right to bring up the options.

  • how come when i try and record using the sound effects in realtek hd. the effect dissapears. and doesnt show if i upload a vidoe to youtube? it only shows on my computer. how do i record the soundeffects of realtek hd?

  • You mean some in built realtek efx like the hall or cave or whichever it has on the realtek app ? I've never tried to record with them efx to be honest.

Really this method with audacity should just record any sound that gets played back through the sound card so it should still do it

  • i did everything on this video but still all i get is audio from the microphone. is there a way to record sound from the computer DIRECTLY? meaning NO microphone?

  • Yes just disable your microphone (mute tick box) in you audio mixer from within control panel \sounds & audio devices \ advanced.

  • realtek really is getting on my nerves...

  • Friend help me to extinguishing (off, kill)or removing the realtek, i send a message to your mail in youtube help me!!!

  • how do i get into this realtech thing, my microphone doesent work ive tried 2, even tried the windows recorder and it doesent pic my mics up please help me.

  • Thanks mate. Worked great.
