Any forreign entity that owns an amount of treasuries that are "too big to fail" knows better than to "dump" those assets onto the market all at once. That is the same as killing the golden goose. Any forreign entity that owns an amount of treasuries that are "too big to fail" knows better than to "dump" those assets onto the market all at once. That is the same as killing the golden goose. The inherent problem that we have as a nation is that too many countries own a significant amount of treasures that are too big to fail. China and Saudi Arabia are just two of them. The National Debt is not overwhelming. We just have to refuse to pay for any more derivatives from the banks.

I don't see why oil will be so expensive if we open our fields to full production. We are sitting on the biggest oil reserves in the world in Alaska and under the Rocky Mts....Personally I don't give a rat's ass about the middle east. They can all dry up and blow away in the wind for all I care. We'll need to fight it out with our own government to regulate gas prices. And that's a fight we can win.

At $200/barrel most Americans won't be able to afford even the cheapest of Chinese crap. Without the American consumer base fueling the Chinese economy the Chinese economy collapses. U.S and China will have much in common: collapsed economies, large civil rebellion, & Martial Law (but will have large supplies of oil..). Russia the big winner UNLESS the U.S. rebuilds its manufacturing base and puts price controls on energy at that point until we get new energy technologies on line.

@baezalejandro that is true to an extent..but we dont need diamonds to run our economy. You can not fix the price of gas to $6-$8 if it costs you 60 cents. There would be no demand. Would you rather sell 1000 gallons of gas at $8 a gallon or 10,000,000 gallons at $3 (if the cost was 60 cents). It doesn't make sense. If the public knew they were producing it for 60 cents and selling it for $8 on OUR OWN SOIL, the riots would make Egypt look like Disneyland.

@tpulling83 Well, they are well on their way with that plan. Yes, I've heard that all the things they are doing to the gulf states, i.e. Katrina, oil spill, etc. is to get all the people out so that the oil companies can take it over completely.
So, I guess the first thing they'll be doing is building new refinery's, updating the old ones maybe, and what's funny (not) is they will probably BRAG about the JOBS they will be creating while they bring in undocumented workers to fill the positions!

No new ones have been built since the mid 70's I think... but that does not mean these refineries are "antiquated", they are very very efficient... constantly up-ing output since they are run at full capacity. The EPA is their greatest foe strangling them to death... and its not like the refineries want to dump products into the environment. (That would mean lots of lost money) We do import some gas.
