I have a Lenovo W520 Thinkpad, with a quadcore Intel 2630QM 2.0 GHz and a Quadro 1000M graphics card. I currently have 4Gb DDR3.
Could you tell me if these specs are similar to yours, i.e. will my machine be able to run The Witcher 2 with the same graphics settings at the same FPS?
@MrBramthebird Your graphics card is a serious bottleneck and you would be lucky to play The Witcher 2 on the lowest settings. I cant even promise that you will be able to run the game at all based on your specs. Sorry.
@itsadurg Not even at 1366x768 or 720p? Would be a shame, the total cost of that notebook was €1500, newly bought this year. Do you know if there's a demo of The Witcher 2 around so I can first test if my system can run it?
@MrBramthebird Well i used the site called "game-debate" and they check computer specs and see if you can play different games and it says that your GPU does not meet minimum system requirements and that if you played it it would have to be at the lowest settings possible and even then your FPS would probably be very bad. As far as a demo goes i don't think there is one, you could pirate it and see if it runs and if it does buy it.
@itsadurg Yeah, think I'll do just that. If the pirated version runs allright, I'll be heading straight to the retailer! Crysis 2 ran at 30fps+ at 1600x900 at high settings, so I still have some hope though :) thanks for your replies!
@Akuma2unlimited Well the thing is emulators require more processing power than normal so u should still be ok using the i5 but you might run into problems emulating the more recent things like the ps2. as far as the ram goes, you don't absolutely need it but its only $25 to upgrade for 4gb to 6gb.
@itsadurg If that is the case wouldn't it be better to just get the FORCE PBL21 rather than the Sager NP5165 which already has the 2nd Generation Intel® Core™ i7-2630QM, 2.0-2.8GHz, and then get the extra 2gb ram? The only reason why I'm asking is because I don't want to feel like I have been cheated in buying a laptop that cost more when their is another laptop that do as good or better.
@Akuma2unlimited Well its up to you, i personally don't know anything about the other laptop you are referring too but if its cheaper and you want to save money i guess that is what you should do. I picked the sager because i like their products and trust them to make quality laptops. So far my laptop has been running great and gives me no problems. The things you should look out for when you do pick a laptop is product quality and things like overheating issues.
Is the extra 2gb of ram really needed? That is the only factor really is impeding me from buying this laptop. It's already $820 as is. I'm going to leave the processor the way it is but the Ram is really the thing I'm worried about.
@69guitarchick I went with the 6gbs just to be safe. I ordered mine 10/9/11 and received it 10/1711. So far so good I'm not use to the optimus. It does work for my gaming though. I mostly come on Youtube and the "high performance" doesn't always work even on the highest res. (1080hp) I don't know if its because Google chrome allows optimus. Internet explorer 9 does but again it doesn't always work when I want to watch something. Now I'm looking for a 3d movie to test it out on maybe Avatar.
@69guitarchick Nevermind for some reason my Sager hates Internet explorer 9 (Still need fixes), I just tried windows 8 and optimus works perfectly with it. But it doesn't work with Google Chrome.
@TheBnkAi Sorry i didn't answer this sooner, youtube didn't give me an alert when you posted the question. I do find the card getting hot but it doesn't seem to be too big of a problem if you use a cooling pad. The other thing is that the NP5165 has a key command that puts the fan to the highest setting witch is nice to help keep everything cool. so overall it is a nice card but it could be better.
@itsadurg so my laptop will be arriving on tuesday, which im really excited about. Which graphics drivers do you have installed? are they the most recent ones? thanks in advance for your response :)
@69guitarchick Just go to Nvidia's website and look for the drivers of the gf500m series and select the gt555m drivers. they have the newest drivers that you can then download.
Did you get the screen upgrade, the 95% color thing or whatever haha, and is your screen matte or glossy, and if you did get the upgraded screen was it worth it?

Great video, I'm planning to get this laptop in near future. However, still have some questions though.
1. When it runs with integrated GPU, how's the temperature while leaving it idle and watching HD videos?
2. Does the AC adapter auto switch to AC power supply when the battery is full?
3. I'm planning to play plenty of console games on emulators such as PCSX2(PS2), Dolphin(Wii & GameCube), will an i5-2410M and GT 555M run these fluently at 60fps?
1. When set to "green mode" it runs on the Intel graphics card and plays HD videos and movies just fine and the fan never even has to turn on which is amazing.
2. I believe that most laptops automatically switch back and forth if the battery is fully charged. but anyway yes this laptop does do that
3. I only use a Nintendo DS emulator and that runs just fine but im pretty sure the emulators you listed will run and play games just fine on this model.
Hi there. Great PC and am planning to get one soon around October. Is it to much if u make a nice review regarding this entire laptop? :) I'm sure everyone will appreciate it very much as it would be a great help. :)
@FunlilPivot Well i actually just bought Bad Company 2 for $5 on steam yesterday so i would be glad to make a video of online gameplay on the highest settings i can for you (but im sure it will play on max settings just fine). As far as Magicka goes, i had never heard of that game but i checked its system requirements and the NP5165 can definitely handle it on high settings. I go to a website called Game-Debate (.com) and they agree that it will run fine on high settings.
@everythingsablur The battery can last pretty long. I find that the screen is very bright so i keep it at the lowest brightness level and if you have it set to use the intel HD gpu the battery can last for about 4 hours doing simple searching and using word. if you want to watch youtube or use a video editor like program you get about 3 hours.
@imeiias You mean you got something other than the GT555m or you got a lower cpu because as far as i know only the cpu is customizable. anyway since this laptop uses Optimus technology it uses an intel HD graphics card when its on power saver mode and that runs HD video perfectly fine but if you think you need to you can switch it to the Nvidia graphics card and you will never have a problem with hd video.

@LegeonDota It is your Graphics Card. it is not strong enough to run this game properly.

Oh and the games I will be playing most of the time will be Ps/PS2 emulators, Wc3, and maybe a few console games.

Hey man! Thanks for all the gameplay videos, I'm probably going to take this over the Alienware stuff. Two questions though;
Can this run Bad company 2 online decently? I'm cool with low settings, I just want to play with decent fps lol.
Same thing, but for Magicka. Would rather have some decent settings there, too. If those two games run, this computer shall be miiiine!

He probably got the NP5160 which uses the GT 540m instead.
How do you find battery life on the NP5165 during normal use ( browsing, office work, etc.)?
