What a great video! The music, the sound, the voice, and the product.. awesome. However, I wonder whether this player is worth like 350$, because this is the cost in the Czech republic.
@Nettacki I haven't had any issues at all with my 601. I've used it during travel, at the gym, and even ran with it a couple times (although I would never do that again do to it's bulky size..). It's performed topnotch in the hardware department :)
@DeckhandDavy Thanks. Just wondering, because I just read some reviews on Amazon that praise the sound quality but have had issues with it breaking down on them early that made me think twice before I buy it.
Great video, I hate to sound ignorant, (slowly easing my way in to the audiophile world), but I had no idea there was a mp3 player world outside of the ipod, but after researching a bit and seeing the differences between the two, I may have to pick this up. :)
@coolykoko If you have any audio headphone meetups in the area, I would highly recommend checking one out. You will be able to sample a lot of audio equipment and audition exactly what will be in your listening preferences. Good luck!
The "extension cable" that you have at 2:22 is a balanced -> unbalanced adapter for the RE-ZERO, as well as the hard adapter at 2:37. It's so that you can connect the RE-ZERO (which has a 4-conductor 3.5mm jack) to a conventional unbalanced (3-conductor) jack.
Can the HM601 be charged via USB cable, or do you have to use that clunky-looking wall plug? Also, is the RE-ZERO bundle still being offered?
@envythree Yeah, I found that out the hard way! :) But thanks for pointing that out. Unfortunately, the 601 cannot be charged via the usb and the bulky wall charger is the only method. The bundle was only available when the 601 debuted. Both the zero and 601 can only be purchased separately.
The HM801 was well regarded for how well it could drive high impedance headphones, like the HD800, without any amp. How does the headphone out of the HM601 fair? Also, there have been numerous recorded issues stating that the HM601 can't play 24bit audio. Has this issue been resolved, or are they at least working on a firmware update?
@leshka6 Unfortunately, I have not heard any of the Cowon players, but have heard a lot of good things about it. I do believe that the Cowon line of players take advantage of equalizing the sounds, and this is where it shines. This is a digital enhancement of the sound.
The 601 performs performs different as it 'colors' the sound by using internal hardware that have their own unique sound signatures. There is no digital alteration involved.
@DeckhandDavy i have another question concerning the comparison between the hm601 and mp3/ipod+amp. let me explain, i want to upgrade but idk what is better. i heard that the hm601 sounds as good as an ipod with a pico slim amp. i was just planing to get a phillips mp3 with its built in fullsound and also get an arrow amp. at the time i am not sure whats better because people say that the hm601 sounds good without an amp.
@leshka6 Good questions! Yes, the 601 is great in its own right, but the engineers have tuned it with specific internal components to create it's own unique sound sig. To me, it's extremely warm, punchy, dark and very very FUN! BUT, I have found that when I use the Arrow as the amp when paired to the 601, it turns into a portable beast. I find that the sound is a little more dynamic and separation is better, while maintaining that juicy bass!
Thank you for amazing review, it was really interesting to watch.
i wondering which iem will have best synergy with hm-601 for classic, jazz, electro music? it's difficult to decide because everyone praises his own headphones..i chose few RE-Zero, RE-0, UE Triple.fi 10, DBA-02, what you think about these iem?
an one more question, are you planning to change 601 to 602?))
@amirrutul I don't plan to move to the 602, as I have quite a few DACs that perform at the 601's level :)
In regards to the which IEM I enjoy, this may sound really silly, but I favor the Yuin PK3 earbuds. Ha! They sound fantastic and arn't too bright or too dark...very good dynamics and balanced. The RE Zero's were way to bright for me. Haven't heard the others though that you mentioned. For the most part, I listen to full size cans with the 601.
hey can i ask about the UI? I read some reviews about the 602 and 801, and both of them has a not so good interface. They said that it cant play music by tracks and cant make a playlist.. is it true..? and how is your experience on it, did you find it troublesome?
@avengedtheater Thanks for watching! Unfortunately, this shares the same general interface as the other two, but with that said, it has been the best interface experience for such a high end player. The slfo2, hisound player and other Chinese DAPs have been very difficult to use, as user friendliness and interface ergonomics are commonly engineered as an afterthought. Although it is not nearly as robust as an iPod or Cowon player, this gets the job done and doesn't cause any headaches. -Davy
@TheVclb The iPod is a good mp3 player, especially with it's proven ergonomics, user packed features and of course, Apple support. Unfortunately, though, the iPod suffers in the hi fidelity department. It has both, a sub-par DAC and amplifier. Most people are completely happy with this though, as the overall sound quality is fine. The 601 will completely change the way you listen to music, as the quality is miles ahead of the ipod.
Indeed. It does have an older style design, reminiscent of those players. Although it may not be a 'looker' for many, it's the audio quality this player produces that music lovers are truly buying this for.
So would this have the same sound quality as the HM801, with the only thing lacking the DAC?

@chowychow The 602 has the ability to be customized and tailored to ones sound preference. Also, it uses higher quality audio hardware by default.

Kind of generic looking but great sound!!!
The HM-601 is a great alternative to the HF-801 (which I also own) for whoever wants something more portable and does not need a DAC.
