Well for normal tips are not included in a bill in Germany

"schwul" means gay. "sch" is "sh" sound, "w" is like "v" in "vast" and the "u" is spoken with a long vowel.

The common mistake is mistaking it with "schwül" which means humid.

Th "ü" sound is hardly explainable, make a long "u" and softly move over to "i" and you will come across it when you draw your lips back.

I got somewhat confused about the tip-thing he is telling about. Service is of course included as the waiter is an employee who gets paid, that's it. But if- let's say- your bill of fare comes to 23.40 € for your meal and drink you better put 26.00 onto the table and say" It's alright".

If you have had a sandwhich and one or two drinks and it comes to 7.90 € , you pay with a 10.00€ note and leave a 1 € coin on the table before you go or hand it back to the waiter when he gives you your change.

Man, i can tell u so much about Germany and how great it is to Live here^^. Sachsenhausen was the shit back then as well. There was a Pub or more like a Rock

Bar. And it was called "Batsch-Kapp" ...they still have alot of Bands Playing there at the weekends. Hefeweizen is a Weizen-Bier that is Stronger then Regular Beer, they have Heller (which means light) or Dunkel (which means Dark) Beer. Greets from Germany , James

Let's hear some of your Sachsenhausen/K-strasse adventures. lmao I didn't go to K-Strasse much but when I did I'd usually go to the Bier Haus & have a couple of those GIANT 2 gallon beer mugs, lmao. They had PHONES at each table & each table had a lighted number & you could phone other tables. I never got laid that way but almost got my ass kicked a couple times via those phones. lol What I remember about the Bier Haus were some really cool wall paintings of an old guy & a young girl in bed.

I spent 6 weeks in 97th General Hospital in Frankfurt back in 1989 after getting my mandible (jaw) broken in The 4th Floor bar down in Sachsenhausen compliments of a fellow soldier and his beer mug. In the hospital one of my roommates, a black guy, had acquired his broken jaw via a Turkish girl's brother's baseball bat with several of his Turkish friends in attendance. So I can concur with everything you said about the fighting , the Turks and the bier. All made for some really good memories. :)

Some came out alright and some not so good. lol I did read somewhere else about it being put off limits sometime after I left in Nov of 89. I would've truly hated being stationed in Frankfurt and not allowed to go to Sachs - It was my home away from home. lmao The English Pub, The Irish Pub, The 4th Floor, The Cottage, Alabamas, Cheers, The Negatives etc. I was usually there 3 or 4 times a week if not more. Good times!

Tanks and tracked vehicles went by train and the rest we carried in deuce and a halfs. I would not trade the 18 mo. in Germany for any other time in my life. Incredible journey for a 19 year old.
