my dad worked in a shop which sprayed and wetsanded the 917 of a racingteam in germany he actually drove one of these beasts on a mountain road back in 1974 and nearly crashed it because of the blocked diff. :D
Hello guys! I recall to see the car at the schaffhausen museum (2004), to the left of the main gate at the end of the hall, together with a Lola T70 coupe. Its a pity the collection is divided now. Anyway Congratulations for the excellent job.
@1967tuncay as an idea, an original 917 in decent condition would set you back between $3million and $7million. Looking at the amount of work in this restoration, I would guess something like 1000-1500 hours work (I standby to be corrected) which I would think would be maybe $100 an hour plus parts, fabrications, welding, paint etc. So really, post restoration, I'd guess you could walk away with it for $10million or so?
I found this series at about mid night. Three hours was spent enjoying enormously. It really is a light weight car, just look at firewall, what a joke it is.
@inagod Forget the body molds (there are some decent 917 kits on the market), how about making some casting of the integral parts of that air-cooled flat 12? That's what the world needs more of.
if this car had it's rooftop mirror installed in Le Mans in 1970, it must be the Chassis #21 Sandeman Porsche of AAW/Piper racing. Driven By David Piper and Gijs van Lennep.
But the motor cover isn't the one it had on then... it must be replaced later.. 1970's had no fins..
The #21 is also a "former Langheck" of 1969, built for homologation, but later converted to Kürzheck.
Hi Kevin, Sharon and everyone! I am sooooo excited by all this :O) Have my Rosso Bianco catalogue and a whole bunch of donuts by my side as I follow this one....
I LOVE IT!!
