During the Iran–Iraq War (1980-1988) the USA gave financial aid to Iraq and helped Iraq develop their army. The USA gave money, weapons and technology to Saddam. And you may not believe me, but at the same time the USA was also giving weapons to Iran! Google "Iran-Iraq War" and "Iran-Contra". You can understand relations soured after this all came out :).

Saddam was weakend at the time and local insurgents made their move on him and were making progress against him. To be nice to Saddam(Bush1 still wanted him to go after Iran) we let him fly his US Made helicopters as transportation. The helicopters were used as gunships instead to turn the tide and keep Saddam in power.

Yep, but the weapons were used on what Saddam wanted, other Iraqis and Kuwait. When Iraq invaded Kuwait we came in and shut them down and dominated the air. Saddam was weakend at the time and local insurgents made their move on him and were making progress against him. To be nice to Saddam(Bush1 still wanted him to go after Iran) we let him fly his US Made helicopters as transportation. The helicopters were used as gunships instead to turn the tide and keep Saddam in power.

US biological resource centers sold or sent biological samples of anthrax. Even Saddam Hussein's Barzan Ibrahim al-Tikritisaid that US never sold any WMDs.
