  • Thankyou for humbling me with this great vid, I can see my own hypocrisy with this matter now in a much clearer way

  • yes SWEARING is a sin, that means not to swear as in "i swear on the bible,God... etc.,that doesn't mean cussing, there is a difference

  • Comment removed

  • Yes, it's a sin. Even the early chapters of proverbs command us to depart all evil words from our lips and tongues.

  • I too was always under the impression that by swear the verses in matthew were referring to making a promise like when people say stuff like "I swear to god" etc not as in cussing... As for the other verses I think they just mean horrible, malicious sayings or insults in general...

  • Words only have as much power as we give them. And sometimes it's okay to cuss. Paul did it when he was angry at a church for misbehaving. There's such a thing as righteous anger.

And I think the verses in Matthew mean swear as in promise, not swear as in cuss word.

  • Well, if cursing is a sin, then my whole generation of family is going to hell, oh well, atleast ill get to see em down there! :D

  • @nuclearartist for whatever period of time for god is a huge punishment when you realize that after u die He is the only thing youd want..hell is definitely worse but in my mind if you tried to go to hell on purpose it woyuld take a lot of work unless u had a malformed conscience or knowledge of good and bad...basically hell is for EVIL people not those who killed a man and harted himself for doing it and repented or felt sorry for it or whatever christians believe

  • @nuclearartist earth to be used as examples..look cussing IS NOT as sin unless it is directed at some to hurt them otherwise it just words..KILLING IS a sin unless its a complete and total fluke beyond a shadow of a doubt...but either way if God created us and loves us the only reason we should go to hell is by completely denying him your conscience and anything else..ever heard of Purgatory? that is the punishment we should ALL get for sinning because Purgatory is a cleansing and having to

  • @nuclearartist its been awhile... look i get what ur saying but no way would God ever punish us on earth if He did that why are there still terrorists and shit who get off scot free in yemen or wherever..God doesnt punish people by striking them with lightning or whatever example u wana use God chooses people to die A NATURAL DEATH for a reason for example in the old testament when the angel of death killed all those people did they do anything wrong? no! god chose them before he created the

  • Aw. I have said many bad words. Some to offend others. Once, i even said as many "bad" words possible to laugh. I didnt know it was a sin. I guess i have to ask for forgiveness. Now I feel guilty, bad, sad, pretty much everything after watching this :(.

  • well some of these verses i think are talking about swearing as in like "i swear to god"

  • i think swearing being misused is a sin but how can it be a sin if u use it alot people can start laughing at u? and some people say theres no evidence in the bible. so personally i dont think so unless u insult someone because if u insult someone that is a sin. its hard to explain but i think u get what i mean. well theres no way for sure but dont do it. better safe then sorry

  • Cursing is a sin, not cussing. The phrase "Dang it" was once considered a cuss word. How many of you have said that? See, cuss words are just words, that's all. It's how you use them that determines if they are curses or not.

  • @1993TRS1 u serious? dang it is a swearing word at 1 time?

  • Owning and beating other human beings to near-death is not a sin. But cursing is? Who decides which words qualify as taboo? Show me a list. It's kind of like defining 'appropriate'. Good luck, fucktards.

  • Let me ask you something if the word "help" was consider a cuss word would it be bad? I dont think cuss words are a sin. I think they are just a way to convey a message or a feeling now it you had an evil intention behind your words then yes that is a sin. But think about back then they didnt have the words like fuck, shit, damn and so on. So i srsly think it the message you are trying to convey which is a sin.

  • ...cussing is a sin ..well crap !! im gonna go to church when im older lol im still a teenager i like to cuss every now and then

  • Cursing is no sin. First when the Bible says cursing it is speaking of putting a curse on some one in anger and hatred. When Y'shua said not to swear it means that you do not have control or power over these things and they are greater than a mortal man. And finally if cursing is a sin than which ones curse words varry from culture to time to language.

  • look sebastien if God is a loving and caring God he forgives us for our wrongs even cussing and murder! if a murderer repents and sees his/her actions as wrong will God not forgive him? do u rly wish people to go to hell? now im not gonna get into a catholic vs protestent arguement with you but if God really does love all people even sinners (as it says in the Bible) jews buddhists atheists etc because He created them why would he send them to hell for an action they feel even mildy sorry about?

  • @HeadshotBiatch3 Let me lay this out for you as far as my measly human brain can grasp the topic. God creates heaven, a place where there is no shedding of a tear, no loss of love and no SIN. Sin must be omitted because all human problems stem from sin. If God were to say, "Well you know what? I'm gonna let the deceivers in, but those rapists!! now they are not allowed!!" he would be inconsistent. God therefore sets a PERFECT standard for this PERFECT location called heaven. No matter how

  • @HeadshotBiatch3 "minimal" their sin may be. Now we have a huge dilemma, no matter how SORRY we are about the things we have done, we have still committed crimes against Gods perfect law and therefore MUST BE PUNISHED. God however does not want to doom us all to damnation in hell for eternity because despite our major screw ups and flaws, despite all the shit we have accumulated during out life times he still loves us. Example, if you have a perfect father, (which not many of us have) no

  • @HeadshotBiatch3 matter what you do he will still love you. So in order to appease the justice he has set forth God sends a human incarnation of himself to earth to live among us, face all the temptation we face, triumph, live a perfect life and then finally die a grizzly and brutal death. This appeases his justice system, and as long as we put on the mantle that Jesus has provided God can overlook our sin completely, when he looks at us he no longer sees the screwed up mess we have made of

  • @HeadshotBiatch3 of things but rather His perfect glory. This is what Christianity is. But then DON'T TAKE MY WORD FOR IT!!!!! Read the book for yourself. I urge you to NEVER LISTEN TO ANYTHING ANYONE TELLS YOU ABOUT GOD UNTIL YOU CHECK FOR YOURSELF BY DELVING INTO HIS WORD. If you have read all the way through this, i congratulate you.

  • Is "s" a sin? Is "sh" a sin? Is "shi" a sin? So at what point does magically adding the "t" to the end make it wrong? Every curse word that I can think of has a "clean" meaning, so does that make the "clean" word wrong too? I'm going to run down a list of "clean" words that have "cuss" equivalents and you tell me when I sin:

penis, vagina, feces, sex, testicles, butt, anus, female dog...

The "dirty" versions of these words mean the SAME thing. Cussing is not a sin. It's a social offense.

  • is saying oh my goodness a sin or oh my GOSH or Oh dear or what the fudge nugget ...

  • also i would like to add if you feel convicted by god if you curse then maybe your should stop it could be god tell you that its bad for you because somthing bad could happen from it points is god knows what best so if your convited or feel like your shouldnt dont let anyone change your mind

  • profane or maybe somewhat offenceive to others read isaiah 36 verse 12 its talking about a man eating his own crap and drinking his own piss read it theres different words for each bible in replace of crap it might be dung or filth as for piss is could be urine read it for yourself

  • also calling people hippocrites is judging and if your such a good christian why are you doing somthing god told us not to do? "Dont judge others or you will be judged also" Again i would like to make the point about culture in england im sure you herd some people say ohh bloody and add somthing at the end now saying somthing like that is sort of offenceive to them but to us its just like bloody? ok. words me different things to different people also if you think the bible doesnt say anything

  • Number 5: corrupt communication again some words give more offence then other some people dont care about cusing if i do it and you do it who is the comminication corrupt? unless its arround somone who doesnt like it and even if it doesnt minister grace does "im gonna go get a sandwhich" minister grace? its the emotion behind the word thats sinful not the word it self or im sure god would warn us which words are bad so we dont slip up right?

  • Number one: it talks about making an oath read it again.

Number two:his mouth if filled with cursing but to curse in this verse mean to litteraly place a curse on someone (damnning them to hell)

Number three:Again it talks about making an oath read it again

Number four:Profane babblings if you call somone a god or a fox in some cultures its a great offence so should we not say them? wrong dont say anything to anyone who finds any word offencev is your arround peple who curse is it profane2thm

  • Comment removed

  • So does this mean that words like, "Stupid, idiot, moron, fart, scum, douche bag, etc..." are also bad? What's the difference? It's quite obvious that the word "shit" is a slang term used for "poop/crap/turd". Profanity is slang, that's all.

  • Listen cussing and cursing is the same thing

    saying EFF U

and I HATE YOU in gods eyes is a sin if the words in your mouth are not to build someone never say it

  • Some if this video is taken out of context. Although just by general terms if cussing is offensive to the person you are cussing in front of then by all means we are to refrain. The 'swearing' that this video is talking about is refering to the taking of an oath. Like swearing by Gods name. there is nothing wrong in and of itself with taking an oath, but God says just dont take one because if you break it, then that is a major major problem unless you knwo you can keep it.

  • These videos are really a waste of time & energy. God will work on people over time, but our main focus as Christians should be the death, burial, & ressurection of Christ.

  • You really are taking a lot of Scripture out of context here. When it's talking about swearing, it's not talking about swear words, it's about speaking truth or lies.I don't think we should cuss, but there is a difference in cussing & cursing someone. I think people really should focus on more important issues with worries about what other people are doing, like trying to share the death, burial, &ressurection of Christ, which determines our salvation, not if people are using bad language or not.

  • I'm in high school this year and I've made alot of new friends, and they all cuss. I don't cuss so it was kinda hard to be around them when they are cussing. For the most part I've gotten completely used to it though. The thing that bothers me is that they all seem positive that I will begin cussing in no time. I have never liked cussing but I'm afraid that since around it so much, I might actually start.

  • @TCD9513 I had the "exact" same problem. I didn't know anyone in high school who didn't cuss. but I never cussed, because I know it is sinful and when people cuss they do it because they can't find an intelligent word to express themselves. so don't give in ok?

  • Ok. Will change.

  • im a freshman in highschool, im 14, and im a christian and im having a problem at school during lunch, all of my friends at school cuss, but they're not christian, but one of them is catholic, 1 cusses nonsenslessly ,2 of them cusses alot, the other cusses a little, and i dont cuss at all, and then one day i told my friends i dont cuss, and then they started to pick on me,then the one that cusses for no reason, calles me a puss# (sorry), and ever since that day they been calling me a puss#,HELP!!!!

  • I dont have a problem with people trying to restrain themselves from cursing, but i hate it when they look down on people that do curse. After all we are all sinners and every sin is punishable by hell fire and torment. and Jesus Christ already payed for ALL SINS on the Cross 2000 years ago, so all you have to do is repent and believe and your saved.

  • either get some new friends, learn to ignore it, or learn to reply in a interesting manner, i.e. if they say "fuck you" you could make a joke like "no thanks I'm not in the mood". pretty simple.

And you don't need to parade your values around or make declarations like "I don't cuss" or "I don't sin", because we all do, and some people will respond negatively to a holier than thou attitude.

Just lead by example. Be positive and confident in yourself. Or just find new friends.

  • @Cyrus255 If christian says that they DO NOT SIN, then they are not children of God. I hate how these so called 'DO IT YOURSELF' christianity types say that they DO NOT sin. The bible does not use that kind of language. I am NOT proud of my sins but I still sin. I hate it when I do, but we still fall.

  • first off... the Scriptures tell us not to be un-equally yoked. "what fellowship does light have with darkness?"

Catholics are in serious error, and so are Christians. Do your research Gamenut, you will be surprised to know that "jesus" could not of even been the name of the Son. that name "jesus" is less than 400 years old

  • @DivinelyGifted I am by no means catholic, but Jesus's name in Aramaic was Yeshua. Jesus is just the english pronunciation. No harm no foul.

  • Colossians 3 verse 8

  • Hey fuck you guy!

    sry i had to

But seriously, in the bible when the speak of cursing, they mean taking Gods name in vain, and cursing his name, or swearing to God. Do you really think when some guy cuts someone off on his donkey he would call him a fuckin' asshole. NO! Cursing had a different meaning in the Bible

  • that last post was to:

    ginsengaddict

  • Look.

God can not ccept us to heaven is we sin at all. ANY sin.

Nobody's perfect, right? We've all sinned countless times. How the heck are we going to get to heaven?

Well, this is why Jesus was sent to earth 2,000 years ago. He died on the cross, but never sinned in his entire life. He was the ultimate sacrifice, the holiest lamb. Since he died for us, he took away all of our sins. If we ask him to come into out hearts, he will forgive us and give us eternal life. Ask him into your heart.

  • My brother that was not at all talking about profanity, what does it say at the end of vesre 33, OATHS,that when you swear to God ,saying i put it on my momma, dead serious, realtalk,i promise, you shouldnt swear or make any kinds of oaths ,yes that mean promises.anything more than yay(yes) or nay(no) is evil, now timothy was a good example brother, concerning profanity.Shalom

  • amen to that

  • Amen. God bless you!

  • either way i think that cussing is wrong and just means that your trying to prove your prestige

  • Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

Cursing does not edify the hearer nor does it minister grace.

  • I doubt that God would send anyone the hell just for cursing....

  • Why you doubt?

  • Well most people don't know that its wrong. I never heard of that before until I seen this video and God is sopposed to be forgiving. Of course someone who kills people is gonna go to hell but cursing doesn't really harm anybody. I'm not going to just in case though.

  • Cussing is just as bad as killing someone. No sin is greater than any other sin....sin is sin. If you die in your sin you will go to hell.

  • trangression is rebelion against the law,Amd yes if you contiue and dont repent......

  • Just so you can think on things check out reviling Ginsengaddict. I am not angry n anyway towards you.

  • @ ginseng i never trusted common sense over scripture. I clearly stated that there is no warrant for cursing in the bible. Foul language is considered cursing. Our culture labels various words as cursing and thus why would Christians need to curse. There is no reason to. In movies, films label cursing as offensive. I will go on to say that cursing in itself is demonic at its core. And i am trying to figure out what ur really saying. Are you for using foul language or not?

  • lol. Ginsengaddict you have no case on Ephesians 4:29 and 2 Timothy 2:16. I understand the oaths part and swearing by God and heaven. But it clearly says no profane babblings and corrupt communication. Also one has to be careful of the versions of the bible that you use to interpret scripture. YOu don't even have to go to the Bible for that. Common sense tells you that cursing is wrong. It is blatantly offensive and God does not curse. There is no evidece of this in the bible where Jesus uses

  • Exactly!

  • on the contrary - Jesus Himself trashed a temple and got really pissed off at one point, chewed out pharisees at several other times, and on every related occasion spoke harshly..

i am very frightened that you would trust "common sense" over scripture.. there are quite a few people who would say "common sense" leads them to disbelieve in God.. you sound just like them..

  • It's true that Jesus did all that stuff out of anger and it's not a sin to express anger. He never cussed even though He called people names and stuff.....how you say that im using common sense over scripture?

  • err - thats comment was directed at testamaru21, not you..

  • my friend, i must inform you that you have taken every single verse mentioned out of their biblical contexts, and failed to make a point in the process.. not one of these verse specifically defines "cussing" as a sin, and therefore it is YOU who has not done your research..

if you want to refrain from from "swearing" as part of your personal worship, that is fine, who am i to argue.. but your video is bullshit..

  • But you have never answered to the scriptures that i have gave you though....

  • i do not apologize if this offends anyone..

mat 5:24-36: "swear" in this context refers to "making promises".. take note that the title of that entire section is in the context of making "oaths"..

psalm 10:7: my version reads "curses, lies and threats" - i fail to see how that applies to cussing..

mat 23:21-22: again, akin to the other matthew v... Read Moreerse regarding oaths.. in fact, this is a direct attacks on pharisees for their false promises.. nothing to do with cussing..

    see next..

  • How about Ephesians 4:29 and 2 Timothy 2:16?

  • dunno why this didn't go through the first time..

2tim 2:16: "profane" in this context is another word for "false".. or more specifically "blasphemous"... still not related to cussing..

eph 4:29: this is akin to insults and put-downs.. using words to hurt someone.. still not directly referring to cussing..

  • I thought profane means foul or ugly....and we do put down and hurt others using cuss words.

  • i'm surprised you're only focusing on me.. does my point of view offend you?

i do not agree that an insult equates to a cuss.. i agree that cusses are commonly used as PART of insults.. in the same way that a car is PART of traffic accidents.. is the car a bad thing? no.. and neither is the cuss..

heres a challenge for you: define "cuss".. give me an actual definition, so i can understand your point of view..

  • I kinda see what ginsengaddict is saying...

  • This is how I see it. The Bible does basically say that we should only speak things that lift others up..I hear that. But it does not cite specific words that should not be said. In my opinion, "cuss" words IN AND OF THEMSELVES are not necessarily sinful. I believe that the sinfullness of using a cuss word lies within the INTENT and/or MOTIVATION of the user...in other words, when they are used to demean someone or in rage its sin. But I think in the context of, say,

  • @sketchtwennytwo Amen! God knows our heart anyway. If you were lifting weights and were pushing up on the bar, and were straining very hard and were saying come on you son of a bitch, you are yelling at the Bar. A far cry from trying to insult someones heart. It is where your heart is. God knows the heart.

  • a group of people who are not offended by cuss words, and someone happened to be extremely passionate about something he/she was saying (ex: say someone's friend died and in an attempt to comfort that person, another friend comes over and tells him something like : "Man, that sh*t is terrible I can't believe this. Are you gonna be alright? You know you can always gimme a call if you ever need anything. I love you.") In the context of the situation would you call that sinning? Trying to comfort a

  • friend? Not me...Now I, personally, try not to use cuss words just because I don't like to use them. But I really do believe that sin is not necessarily held within specific words or phrases. To me, its about the INTENT of the speaker, and also the atmosphere..certainly one should not say anything that is going to cause someone else to stumble, so saying a "cuss" word around someone who would be offended is not good. But yea...so I kinda sorta agree with where ginsengaddict is coming from...

  • sketchtwennytwo, you have a brain - its people like you who give me hope for Christianity's future..

yes, i do agree that swearing isn't sinful UNLESS used with malicious intent.. the same applies to insults that DON'T contain swear words or references to fecal matter, etc..

"you're not worth the oxygen you breathe!"

thats pretty harsh.. not colorful, but still as harsh:

"you're a fucking waste you piece of shit!"

    next comment:

  • neither one of those statements are at all kind or heartwarming, so why is one worse than the other, simply because of some specific words it contains?

anyway, i'm glad to know there is actually a smart person with an intelligent, well-thought-out opinion regarding this issue..

  • lol

  • Ya their you go mix your own cool aid to taste, bottom line, people cuss because they don't want to fully subject them selves to the word, I've been save for 30 years never said a cuss word, never cheated on my wife, never drank alcohol, of course I'm always called a liar by people like you, but do I really car what you think??? absolute not, one of these days people like you will be disusing Holly Ghost filled purposes of the Lord in the bible, start cussing and Blaspheme the Holly Ghost.

  • no mate, i don't think you're a liar - i just think you're an ass.. but you don't care what i think, do you?

  • sketchtwennytwo) it don't make any difference what you "personally" think, it's what the bible says, HA bunky??? this young man just gave you a bunch of scriptures to back it up, so I'm not going to quote the scripts over, and you said

"its about the INTENT of the speaker, and also the atmosphere." atmosphere????????

Do you and God meet some where in secret, that you come up with this stuff?????, just curious!!

  • dude, why dont you go and look at those scriptures? they have fuck-all to do with the subject at hand..

if anything, sketch's interpretation is far more accurate of the very scriptures posed in this video..

  • what the flyin flip is a bunky???

  • when I said atmosphere obviously i didn't mean the molecules in the air, smart one. i meant atmosphere in the sense of the people around you and where you are (a church? in a circle of friends who don't find certain words offensive?). If you are in a church chances are someone in there will find a "cuss" word offensive so using one would cause them to stumble.

  • Its like drinking alcohol. alcohol in and of itself is not sinful, but it can be taken too far and lead to sin (drunkenness). You should not invite someone out for a drink if you know they have a problem with drinking. In the same way, i wouldn't say a cuss word around someone I know it would be offensive to. diff people define offensive language differently. I don't define it as "cuss words" in and of themselves.

  • I define offensive language as ANY words that are used to tear people down. That *could* be a cuss word or any other word for that matter. All i'm sayin is saying a cuss word doesn't change the relationship i have with Christ. and it would be pre-judgemental for anyone to say that I'm not a Christian or don't love God because I said a cuss word.

  • I have to agree with ginsengaddit on Matt 5:24-36 and 23:21-22, the context of swearing and giving oaths has to do with making promises one can not keep and using religious items and beings as collateral on those promises.

For example, it is wrong to say, "I will pay you back I swear (read: 'promise you') on the X of heaven".

Those verses has nothing to do with swear words, like the f word or whatever.

  • Praise God for this video. So true, and definitely needed...even for some so-called Gospel artist.

  • Thank you.

  • thanks for the vid, and yes, I am in agreement with your vid!

    Amen!

  • Great video, brother!! It is definitely a sin to swear & cuss. The Bible makes this abundantly clear--1 Peter 3:10, Ephesians 4:29, James 3:9-12, and Luke 6:45 all remind us that cussing is sinful.

Whenever we swear and cuss, we are polluting sin into our hearts which must be confessed and repented of. Thankfully, our great God is faithful and just and will forgive us for our sins and purify us (1 John 1:9). You're right; those people really need to do their research & study. A-'men
