  • 1:14 <= Totally my face when I first heard this version by Marcus, so good!

  • 4:11 - 4:25 Ecstasy

  • I hope people understand that this is what music is about, pure and magic sound.

  • excelente performance!!!

    nosso grande mestre no baixo...

  • O M G !

  • Great performance evenif I don't like Marcus' sound, far too edgy for me, harshly bright to my ears lol

  • oh my goodness... i've been trying to play Rocco's baseline for ages and MM just made me wanna practice for centuries ahead!

  • kagan z muszelek i do przodu!

  • wow. so ein cooler sack !!!!

  • LIKE A BOSS!!!

  • Marcus redefined every aspect of the bass-line for this song! I love you my brother. You're phenomenal! Thanks for posting this!

  • ah se eu tocasse um por cento que esse cabra toca

  • almost forgot to breathe for a sec

  • @SuperSukme Breathe? What? - Oh yeah...*whew*! Thanks, man...

  • Speedcore music with a sax?

  • this sax player is so good in the altissimo it's ridiculous

  • is it me or is that sax out of tune?

  • @feldkampje It may be a bit flat hmm

  • @feldkampje nope, just you :)

  • warum ist das überall schneller gemacht??

  • man jason if you read this anytime soon man let me say this....FUCK what these mahfuckas are talkin about man!! for real dude. you are a top notch musician on stage with other top notch musicians. people at home hatin as usual being way to analytical. LMAO!! i mean mahfuckas are talking about bpms to a world class musician while sittin at home with NO vidoes on youtube. that shit is just ridiculous man. nigga you dont have shit to prove LMAO!! FUCK EM!!!!

  • @seeker0truth LMBO!!! Thanks man, I hear ya! If I wasn't so hard on myself, than it probably wouldn't bother me as much! & part of what they're saying is true, I mean, I straight up left the homies @ the starting line!! LOL!! It's all good though, cause a few seconds in, I caught it, they waited 4 me, we locked, & off we went!! It was moreso the negative attitude that kind of errrked me a lil, cause I'm like, yo, have ur opinion, that's cool, but u ain't gotta be an a**hole about it! LOL!

  • @jasont0815 Really good work on those drums. Funky as hell. Like... really amazing freaking work. It can't be easy to keep that funk tight on such a fast tempo and with those kicks.

    You've earned yourself one cookie.

  • @magichristo Aww man, Thank U for the words Bro!!! Preciate that!!! & I will have one Peanut Butter Cookie, thank U!! LOL........

  • Awsome!

  • Excellant

  • Marcus is sick i mean wow

  • Did Jason Thomas play with the RH factor?

  • @KrummyBear Yes Sir I did....& still do! :-) lol

  • @jasont0815 Yeeeeah sonion. Bob Marley with them badass herniated cheeks = Roy mah boy.

  • I don't even remember what I originally said. All I know is that it sounds good, Marcus is killing it, but the drummer is rushing a bit. I'm still not sure what is so complicating about my statement. Other people have commented about the speed of the song. And here is a revelation, the song didn't speed up until the drummer came in. Weird... It's not some horrible insult, or some demeaning critique. Its a simple observation...

  • Alex Han looks like such a dork with those glasses lol no offense, but man he totally beastes the sax!! epic!

  • @judey2008 ... apparently I have more of an idea than you do. Original TOP version = FUNK. This rendition = less FUNK. James Brown = FUNK. James Jamerson = FUNK. Don't let your admiration for Marcus blind you to reality, he is truly a great player but this rendition pales in funkiness.

  • Wow...Marcus is playing this at a much faster tempo...and with such ease...he's simply amazing!!!!!!!!!!

  • Phenomenal!

  • MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM tasty as fuck.

  • Damn.

  • ...absolutely smokin!!!...saw TOP a year ago and I love this version of "what is Hip!...see why Marcus and the crew did this last...poured every ounce into it...each band member is outstanding in their respective area...nice!

  • La grosse claque.

  • Um dos melhores do mundo...

  • With all due Respect to Salaxian and nativeofsandiego are both of you gigging anywhere and if so do the both of you have any videos of youselves playing that's uploaded to YouTube ?

  • nativeofsandiego??? Dude are u STILL talking ish about my " 4 bars of tempo slippage "???? Or are people still commenting on ur " Dumb Ass Comment "???!!! What's amazing is that from the point of when the band comes in, that ISH IS LOCKED all the way to the End!! But u didn't have nothing to say about that??? What I wanna know is, where R YOUR Videos??? Put em up, & you'd better be PERFECT!!! Punk ass............so sick of mofos always talking sh**!!

  • Absolutely great!! Thanks Marcus for the fantastic bass work!!

  • @Silaxian you don't have any idea about funk

  • im still mad i cant play slap like that.

  • Sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...That was good

  • I just keep coming back to this song each and every time. Alex Han is amazing. He's a vessel of never-ending ideas.

  • Awesome, as always. Thanks for sharing.

  • I like how Federico is doing all this stuff with his keys and they all sound the same haha.

  • @Coolhowi I like it too! I saw them live, amazing!!

  • 2:02 : bassline from "On the Serious Side". Another ToP song!

  • THis is BLOODY AWSOME!!!!.......

  • its a good day to have the name alex

  • love alex but i woulda prefered ta hear lp on this song :)

  • UNE TUERIE !!!!!! EXCELLENT :-) :-) :-)

  • A killer demonstration of internal clock persistence and discipline. Amazing.

  • As if Rocco Prestia's bassline wasn't hard enough.

  • @wheredave1983 "hey I'm Marcus Milller and I can play fast!" It's virtuous, but Rocco Prestia has groove and THIS here isn't really hip...

  • The bass groove is killing me!

  • Like it better slow though..

  • a bugatti that does not start....

  • So they played one song, and then left?

  • Great playing but with this speed it takes out the funk a bit.

    Cant dance to it anymore.

  • Power to the band... JT Phenominal...

    Thanks for your Musicality-

  • I would love to see a video of the guy downing this video. If you are such a great critic show me your video that is better than this.

  • Mr rythm; tanku. ;)

  • JT- Never heard anyone but you & Garibaldi sound this good on this tune. Didn't even notice that shaky 1/2 measure but sure enjoyed the other couple hundred. There may be a few decent musicians with the spare time to post comments on YouTube, but nobody in your league, I suspect.

  • JT, I like your tone and touch a lot; Erskine is an apt comparison.

  • @ nativeofsandiego.............Dude, give it a rest already, its not that serious. I came in wrong, its that simple, I felt it, & settled back down, that's it, end of discussion. Analytical people always take it WAY too far, don't ever know when to just SHUT UP!! & TRUST ME, Peter Erskine, & any & everybody else has had they're screwed up days, NOBODY is exempt from that, its gonna happen, MOVE ON!! I've heard the best of the best FOLD time n time again, get over, & PLAY!! & again, STHU!!

  • Comment removed

  • Holy sheep shit. I thought I'd heard it all, but... dang!

  • Dang the drummer is rushing like crazy! Marcus is still killin it!

  • @nativeofsandiego The groove is just fast, and tight. The drummer isn't not rushing.

  • @sc45470 Listen to the beginning of the song and how much the drummer speeds it up.

  • @nativeofsandiego Marcus started off slow, then drummer sped them up, but the whole band is pretty tight.

  • @sc45470 Slow is a relative term. He starts the song exactly how it is on his record. And then what happens? The drummer sped them up. I'm sorry, but that dude is rushing.

  • @nativeofsandiego Slow as in BPM (we speed up yes, but rushing? Rushing means pushing foward more than your supposed too). Those four musicians (drummer could purposively speed up, because from that point they're all on time) really feel it when the drummer comes in. The groove is tight.

Then listen to Marcus again. Bass + Drum lock in = groove. The song is on time.

  • @sc45470 Well I suppose its all a matter of opinion. But apparently you haven't listen to any Erskine, because even when he "speed" up a song or two live back in weather report, he never rushed it. To each is own...

  • @nativeofsandiego

they are musicians not metronomes dude!!

  • Responder a este vídeo... amazing!!

  • @nativeofsandiego Miller starts the song by playing a riff at 124 bpm, when the song finally settles the tempo is around 132 bpm. Please listen to more jazz or music in general, it´s normal that the tempo finally settles when the drums start to play.

  • @MonoRec88 I swear this vid will be my nightmare, 4ever! LOL, Anyhow, I just tapped this out on the ole metronome, & Marcus comes in @ around 132ish, ( idk how u got 124, though he recorded it @ 124.2-3, & always wanted it @ like 132-135 live ), I come barreling in @ a romping 140ish? WTH, LOL, thankfully Marcus didn't freak, & I caught it, then we gradually brought it back down thru the intro/1st & 2nd verse/& choruses, finally settling down around 133-136ish! Awful start, Good finish! LOL

  • @jasont0815 Hi again, I love that musicians in these videos are commenting themselves.

I´m checking again and the BPM I´m getting is around 126 in the beginning, being that Miller plays three tuplets as an upbeat in the riff. Of course it takes some time in this clip to settle the tempo, but the groove coming out of the rushy start is very good.

  • OVERKILL!

  • :O

    shocked

  • Great thanks for the the upload.
