  • fun instrument to play

  • aweshum!

  • I know what you mean "it was better in person" I had the privilege to hear a Japanese Harp too and my recording just doesn't do it justice. But all props. to you, you held the camera steady at least.Unlike myself.

  • Just a curious question...how is it notated in the music when to push and pull on the strings?

  • Like western music has sharp and flat signs, koto music has symbols to indicate 1 step and 2 step sharp and to pull to make the string flat. Different schools use slightly different notation styles that can be a bit confusing, but it's not all that bad. They also have different symbols to indicate different playing styles with the tsume (pick) like playing with the side rather than the tip.

BTW: Koto (or Okoto) is NOT a harp, it is a zither.

  • @dulcimoo Yeah, It's actually 3 different thing. They sound different.

  • ERES FANTASTICA!! Lo Mejor, nunca habia escuchado una cancion completa en Koto.. solo en Anime y pekeñas parte... es fantastico ojala pueda encontrar mas videos!!! CONGRATULATION JAPANESE GIRL... ^^"

  • This is very nice! Where can i find more!

  • not baaad. The "Japanese Harp" is called "Koto" by the way...

  • you know what... I have been searching for the name of that instrument for ages... thank you

  • No prob. No idea if they got any vids of it here but the opening ceremony of Himeji-castle's 「姫路城」cherry-blossoming festival also has got some nice Koto-playing goin' on.
