Individually wrapped coil is BS. It falls apart real quick. They want mattresses to last around 5 years. Built in obsolescence.
Continuous spring with good coil coin(usually) and tempered.
GOOD QUALITY FOAM and LATEX. Find out what is in the bed not the name brand.
Bad stores sell bad mattresses with the name brand. BIG name brands have different qualities. A whole line of BIG NAME garbage at discount stores. Little individual pockets generally don't work properly. Something needs to tie

Stearns and Foster (Sealy) is junk! My 16 month old $2500.00 mattress has a 4 inch body impression in it. Great if you love pain! There warranties are worthless and their customer service is the worst I've ever experienced.
Sealy, Stearns & Foster, and Tempur-pedic are the major brands. Spring air is not a major brand. Individually pocketed springs are less durable then bonnel, or triple-offset coil systems with foam edge encasement. ie: Simmons (individually pocketed coils) run 4% warranty claims on all their products, Sealy runs .5% warranty claims. If you look at the numbers his pitch doesn't add up. Any mattress sales person will tell you their product is "the best" I sold mattresses for 5 years trust me.
Spring Air is a major brand. So is Simmons. Also Sealy bought Stearns & Foster years ago. Tempurpedic is still chasing the "big S" brands, and Simmons Comfort-pedic is starting to compete a little with Tempur. "triple-offset coil system" thats just typical sales jargon used to sound fancy and confuse. I own my own mattress store and I rep for several bedding companies and have for over 10 yrs. I hope you don't give advice about beds to friends and family.
Can you recommend a good bed? I was thinking of getting Serta but this sales guy said Beautysleep/Simmons was better.. What do you think..? I need a bed with good support for my back, hip and shoulders..
I would stay away from Simmons right now. The buzz around the industry is that they are hurting bad and could be looking at bankruptcy (thus no warranty). I would really go on feel, don't get too caught up in brand names. Stay away from box stores like sam's, costco, etc... Just pick a place you trust ( check BBB it help's) and pick one that feels the best to ya! Then let the salesman to you if it's good and why it's good. Not the other way around. Good Luck and happy shoping!!
