Where's the best place to sit for a Vanderbilt Commodores game at Vanderbilt Stadium?
I'd like to see a game just for the sake of experiencing it. Would I get any hostility from other members of the crowd for not being a loyal follower??
Northwestern would've finished with the same exact record in the SEC. Northwestern gets 80% of their wins by playing & I-AA teams at the beginning of the year.
Very technical on the call. I have to believe the official is erring on the side of caution here. Hits to the high shoulder, neck and head area are a point of emphasis for all of college officials this year. As for the Big Ten officials bashing, of the 9 inter-conference games Big Ten crews were on, this is the only one getting whiners. Va Tech complained loud about the SEC crew last year vs.Bama (I thought that crew did an excellent job as well). Big Ten worked Boise game and not a peep.
Vandy fans: The penalty did NOT decide the game. Northwestern clearly had a first down, and so the game was over. Watch it 100 times if you want, he's two steps ahead of the marker, AND he is knocked out of bounds in front of it, even though he's being pushed backward. It happens every time the Big Ten beats an SEC team, people start making ridiculous excuses. I've heard the "bad call" excuse just as much as the "unfair weather for southern teams" excuse. Quit whining and lose with dignity.
It was SHOULDER TO SHOULDER! Not even aimed at his head! I've been an official for 20 years and KNOW the rule! That kid went shoulder to shoulder, nothing more, nothing less.
Despite Vandy's mistakes, they got SCREWED! That last penalty was in NO WAY a blow to the head! I lost all respect for Coach Fitzgerald after the comments he made in the local paper! Big Ten crew of course! They should get a NEUTRAL CREW for such games! Granted, Vandy would have had an uphill battle with under 3:00 to play, no timeouts and a shaky kicking game, but goodness! To be hosed out of a CHANCE to win under the circumstances? Give me a break!
@bigvol662004 - Look at the updated rules for this year. Even if the blow actually didn't make his head, the rule states that a hit AIMED at the head is grounds for a penalty, even if no helmet contact is made. If the refs have doubt about whether the hit is clean, they're supposed to throw the flag. It sucks, it really does, but you're going to see that call a lot more this year.
@claviertekky Thanks. Yeah, I read about that a month or so ago. This one didn't have any other highlights, but I'm sure I'll push 15 minutes at some point this season. Certainly for the season recap video.

We (NU) looked sloppy. Running game still needs work. NU does have a way of improving as the season progresses.

These comments are funny. Vandy season ticket holder here...
1 - The hit was 100% clean.
2 - He was a full yard SHORT of the 1st down, you don't get to count the whole sliding after you were decleated as forward progress.
3 - As a Vandy fan I can honestly say that had we got the ball back, like we should have, we still would have lost the game.
