It's the people who will revive this language. If we put all our faith in stormont or in dublin, then the language will surely die. In the North, the DUP will veto Acht Na Gaeilge at every cost, and in the South the Government will only do the bare minimum to ensure the language survives and you can be sure they won't do anything for the North. Saddening
Well, I wish Ireland the best and hope that the Irish are successful in reviving their language and, in the process, their culture, with or without the help of the state.
I understand what you mean now, But I was wondering why Dublin doesn't fund the education for the Irish language WITHIN the Republic? Or does it and I am totally misunderstanding everything?
I am interested! I have been trying for the past couple of months. Bought an Irish dictionary and downloaded the Irish People lessons. But I could always use more.
Actually the problem with the reason the Irish language is meeting so much resistence is that it is being taught as a second language not as a first language. If a childs first moment of contact in school was in Irish and instructed in Irish throughout their school life, then it wouldn't be an issue, it would be very natural. English should then be taught after a few years when Irish has been mastered, but instruction would still be in English. Thats the solution.
Of course, that's what happens in Welsh medium schools here in Wales, children go through their 1st 6 years of life immersed in Welsh before they start learning english. Sadly, I go to an english school and I learn it as a second language at a ridiculously slow pace when I could have been fluent when I was 4. Yes, I know how it feels!
im a lowers fall road man living in usa ,its great to see whats going on and to walk down into castle is great ,we could,nt do that years ago, tiocfadh ar la
you do know im not against irish or anything but it is being taught horribly.and it shouldnt be compulsory if you want kids to learn it then thats their choice

twilightgirllayouts 3 years ago
yes, this is Irish Gaelic, Gaeilge, a different language from Manx Gaelic and Scots Gaidhlig, all of which derive from the same old Irish.

first cause dublin cant fund another countries school second the "uk" should support all minority languages.
liamcork 3 years ago
Ireland is considered a country seperate from Dublin? Huh???
*confused*
Stoirmeacha 3 years ago
it may aswell be a chara ;) but nah, dublin is the capital - so when we refer to laws and funds and such, we say dublin.
SeanOBriain 3 years ago
i mean that the republic of ireland cannot fund a schoolplan in the uk.
liamcork 3 years ago

This is far more powerful than all the bombs the IRA exploded during the troubles. Refusal to accept the English language is powerful statement.
