  • 2 things, what time period is this (nothing to do with the song) and what unit are they in because I was thinking of dying a US enlisted frock coat red and retailor it a bit to wear it out on the field

  • Well palyed. But this song came with Irish immigrants during the Civil War, not as early as the War of 1812.

  • Noted : It was just a practice for them, but they admitted that the song was out of period

  • Actually, Garry Owen is documented to have originated in the late 18th century. The tune appears in James Arid's 1787 collection under the title "Auld Bessy."  It is in fact a period tune.
