@AlbequerqeTurkey nice, you know it stuns me that this wasn't the garand from day one, the technology was there, i guess no one thought it was possible.
You just destroyed a perfectly good rifle. Nice job, you just made a BM-59, Beretta did the same thing and rechambered it in .308. Basically you did nothing new or unique, just copied what others have done. But in the end you destroyed a piece of history.
@AlbequerqeTurkey Another garage mechanic thinking they do something unique and worth while. I am an FFL dealer and I would not have someone with your so called skills touching one of my guns. Only mouth breather here is you moron. Idiots like you who destroy firearms need to have their head examined. Your a joke with an attitude and no skill whatsoever.
Explain to me how this rifle has been destroyed. It still fires just as well as it used to.. it just functions differently. It is not a rare rifle by any means. I didnt do these modifications with a dremel tool and a hacksaw if that's what you're thinking. I will post a slideshow with pictures of the build so all of the haters can see just how much of a hack I am.
I may be Fudd-ish when it comes to War Antiques, but what OP did here was one of the things the military wanted to do anyway for the invasion of Japan - give Garands more fire power. A 20-round BAR magazine was part of it - converting some/all to full auto afterwards was the other part. For that, OP was pretty cool guy today.
Congratulations, it is a great project indeed. I am a fan of the classic M1-Garand, but your modification really brings the rifle back to life correcting some of the few limitations that the Garand has against more recent combat rifles (If you do not mind, I will mention those for others reading this post: increased ammo capacity, reduced reload time, reduced necessity to reload, great reduction of the Garand-thumb risk). A tutorial of this project would be greatly appreciated. Best regards.
the guy explaining what he is doing really helps to overcome the terrible video. why the hell do people put shit on youtube that is mostly a waste of time!
The U.S Government did what you did and thats how we now have the M-14 they experimented with several designs based on the M-1 Garand. no it's not a BM-49 or a M-14 its your own creation but not a new one.
so, you took my like 4th favorite rifle, added one of my favorite bands in the background for the aftermath(five finger death punch), and made an almost copy of my favorite rifle (the m14). i now pronounce you God.
It is a modified BAR magazine. An M1A is .308 (7.62x51mm).. my rifle is still .30-'06, so NO I did not just make an M1A, thank you for telling me what my rifle is though
Not certified but I know my way around a milling machine and machinist blueprints. You got a good set of blueprints and instructions I could take a look at? I'll know right away if I can do it without screwing up.
It wasnt done for competition or hunting but would work well for either. I have killed several hogs with this rifle. Having 20 rounds available sure is nice when you stumble onto a large group of hogs.
No instructions. This isnt a modification I would reccomend unless you are a good machinist.. there is not much room for error. This is not something you are going to do with a dremel tool in your spare bedroom.
You know I have to add my voice to many others commenting... this was a waste of a perfectly good Garand, a WW2 era one no less. If you had done this to some POS CMP Greek Garand or even a Korean War era one I could kinda understand. But seriously if you wanted a 20rd battle rifle and don't have the money for a BAR, then buy an M-14 or if it has to be .30-06 do what I did and mod out a Rem 7400. Once you destroy a piece of World War Two history, it's just gone forever.
How exactly is this a waste? Do you have any idea how many "WWII" Garands were built and are still around today? Do you really think one of them being modified is going to turn the world upside down? I could possibly understand your dislike if I was going out and buying up every WWII era Garand I could find and converting them, but I'm not.
Cool, somebody else did it also. I have a SA mfg June of 1941 that I did the same thing to. Put it next to the HK91 and you have some fire power throwing out those 30.06 and/or 7.62/.308. Which would you rather have in a fire fight, a little .223 or a big bore with 20 rounds?
that is a ruined piece of history why would you do that this is just not what you do to a piece of history unless this is a reproduction than do what you want
Yes, the M1 Garand is a piece of history. But they are not exactly a rarity. It is a genuine 1944 SA and I'll do whatever I want to with it. If you don't like it.. too fucking bad.

@jbsegrest dude i am fine with custom cars those are awesome but dude i know my grand dad wouldn't like this he fought in kerea but i had to get off the computer before i could tell you not 100% ruined they developed an full auto m1 garand with a detachable mag similiar to this 23,000 were made for the invasion of Japan which never happend because of the a and h bombs
@MrLunchHour2 Actually they did make a few clip fed Garand prototypes called the T20(BAR mag fed) and the T22. So I don't think he totally killed it. Now the dudes who converted one to 505 Gibbs.... THEY killed it but thats still a badass rifle
Was having some reliability issues at first but I think I have it dialed in now. I need to run a few hundred more rounds through it. I'm going to try and get a video the next time I fire it. The reciever was milled out to accept the magazine. The trigger group, stock, and recoil spring/rod also have to be modified. I would not recommend anyone trying to do a similar modification unless they are experienced machinists.. this is not something that can be done with a dremel.
It is a very tight fit to make this magazine fit and function and the chances of screwing up the reciever are very real. Also, contrary to what some people have said, the strength of the receiver is not affected.
Nice job did you do that on you own or copy the Berreta BM59 ? I wish I had your skill.

@617AV86892 no 30-06 is T20/BM54 even if it was in 308 it would be closer called a BM62. I like it too more volume of fire is a good thing
