  • Playing the Tabernacle Organ was one of my father's dreams for me. I hope one day to fulfill that dream when I get the opportunity to visit Temple Square again. I started taking organ lessons after a visit to the Tabernacle in 1965 or 1966 to listen while the Tabernacle organist at that time practiced. It was on a Thursday morning. Since that time, I have played organs and pianos for LDS congregations throughout the world during my mission and military service.

  • ..manually entering the reeds - the 8' and the 16' stops to give this hymn more body towards the end.

Just think - in the olden days before couplers, pistons and toe studs, there was a person on each side of the playdeck that would change the stops when cued on the music itself.

  • Poor guy. Its sooooooo hard to play with anyone watching you like that.

  • They mean well

  • Mormon Tabernacle Organ I have played But the People are so Protective about the organ People stand over u watching your every move. It put me off for going back over there to play that Organ.

  • THey have too. In our watd, the organs mutations dont work because someone with a key has been getting in it and messing up EVERYTHING. ANd that thing is so old, it wouldnt take much to break it.

  • Really? The times i've played, they kind of give a overview of the pistons then, let me be. I wouldn't let that put you off for playing it

  • eh, they messed with the pistons too much. I never use them, because that person messes with them so much you never know that it ill osund like, so i set it myself, and it sounds better in my opinion, not to boast too much. : )

  • I would love to play this Organ someday, what an Honor that would be - Lance ♫ ♪ ♫

  • What is the name of this piece? I regonize the melody from a hymn.

  • It's Now Let Us Rejoice. Hymn #3. Hymn tune-Lion of Judah. its one of my favs :o)

  • I made a typo... I meant jacket, not jacked.

  • Yeah, it MUST be AGO specific. The young man wearing the black jacked helping with the different stops is much taller than the heighth of the console. I would say the console stands up to about 49 inches, if I'm correct.

  • He is Andrew Unsworth.

  • I love the piece. Nice arrangement.

  • where did you get this arangement?

  • I actually wrote it myself for stake conference.

  • Did you go there for a stake trip, like maybe Youth Conference?

  • My stake conferences are in Naperville, IL. I was visiting Utah.

  • How is it that every seems to be able to get up to there to play that organ except for me!

  • Comment removed

  • Yes!!!

    Now Let Us Rejoice!!!

Who the heck arranged the peice?

I actually got to play the magnificent Conf. Center organ when I was out there!

  • Very impressive! It's a lot of fun playing that organ isn't it?
