theres several places around me that sell used containers from 100 usd to 900 usd - conditions and sizes vary, some even have roll-up doors on the end. been thinking of making a house from them - this just inspired me to doit...maybe
LMAO theres a reason its $100 an acre...cuz your dropping your ass in the blender of the drug war...its ground zero petcos tx ....geezz....i bet your sellin land there ?!....and the crazy train rolls on !!!
Thanks for the information! I'm looking into building a container house, but without losing its mobility, so I can ship it places. New job? No prob, just take the house with me. I want to use two 8x20 containers, one a "service module" with kitchen/bathroom/electrical/heating/sleeping area, and the other one a "living room module," for more space.
what about decontaminating these containers? i would be afraid living in a steel structure not knowing what kind of chemicals were shipped if they were toxic or radioactive or antrhrax, biological , could have been many contaminants shipped in these steel containers over there lifespan and then your sealed in living inside of it! ...How can you guarantee that they are clean room safe?
You need 10 acres to build in rural Texas with few utilities. There are building laws to keep Texas from looking like a Mexican colonia. Deal with a reputable realtor and it is more like 500-1000 a acre (with road access). I own 10 acres in Hudspeth County it is just free range for cattle now. That is a small "cabin" why not use a 30 or 40 ft container?
If you are considering modular or prefab home, building with recycled shipping containers is worth taking a look at.
Good resource is the Residential Shipping Container Primer website. A SHOWCASE OF SHIPPING CONTAINER HOMES AND BUILDINGDS, AND A DO IT YOURSELF (DIY) REFERENCE FOR CONVERTING RECYCLED INTERMODAL CARGO SHIPPING CONTAINERS INTO BUILDINGS AND ARCHITECTURE.
Lots of great example buildings, details, facts, and links to other articles...
Van Horn, Texas an EXCELLENT place to buy 5 Acres for $500???? Are you CRAZY? This is close to the Mexican border!!! Your acreage is going to have hundreds of Illegal Aliens walking across it a month, many acting as mules (carrying drugs), some are armed. The gang warfare is 100% out of control - 72 people were killed in one attack in Aug 2010. WAKE UP!
Kevin is onto some good details with the side entry door. It makes the layout much more comfortable Can you make another update video with more construction details?
Mikey Sklar made good headway when he sprayed papercrete stucco on his containers for the insulation. My biggest challenge so far with container cabins is making them thermally comfortable and not sweat with temperature. What solutions have you found?
Pecos... a "beautiful" place to put a cabin? Come on, I'm a Texan and I wouldn't call it beautiful... cheap, yes... but not beautiful. The hill country or some place in East Texas.... OK, that's beuatiful
Your narration and music sucks ass! You intense, out of work new York asshole

Then don't get one.
metal does not absorb or transmit gasses. the contaminents can only absorb into the paint.
start a fire in it and burn off all the paint on the inside.
radio activity can be detected.
I don't guarentee anything.. I don't sell them. My friend does.
Any new house is full of chemicals from carpets, etc..
relax..

That layout is crap. If the unit is 20 ft long, the bed should take up a third of the space unless he's a midget. How does the plumbing work?
folbbuilds 1 year ago
@folbbuilds
You are correct, but the drawing has dimensions on it and the length is shown as 28 feet. The video is incorrect.
