@russianskatingfan I know neither could I have medalled I was just pointing out the amount of difficulty and originality in this event final and yet the simplest routine takes gold.
They need to bring this code back. Especially the rewarding of four skills in a row. This competition was one of my favorite beam finals ever. With the '89 Worlds being a close second.
i miss Millers mounts! she changed it to a punch front for the next cycle, which was smart, SV wise, but I thought her handstand-combo-flip mounts were so pretty
It's obviously more difficult to connect any two skills rather than doing them singly. What I mean by "over the top" is that the finished position is PAST vertical in Yang Bo's connected front aerial, whereas Shannon's finishes straight up (or "at the top").
@mrparke007 and to think she was doing a more difficult dismount than most of them! I love her extension...her extension on beam was always so beautiful, beautiful & graceful lines! :)
God... she really does that front aerial PERFECTLY. I think it's the way she finishes the skill, such extension. It's such a common trick nowadays, but Shannon really did it the right way. She was so articulate in her movement.
Yeah, I know, but Shannon is SO young in this video, and it's really rare for an American to have such elegant execution. Plus, I was trying to speak from a historical perspective. Back then, front aerials really weren't common on beam.
It's different, though, because Yang Bo carries the front aerial over into a needle scale, which made her go over the top with the skill. Miller was just executing an aerial that was unconnected... and it's incredible.
Oh I don't agree with that. The Chinese were known for their great beam workers long before Shannon came along. Think Yang Bo in 1989. The Chinese and Shannon both had styles and techniques all their own.
That mount is INCREDIBLE.

I'm a big fan of Shawn Johnson but Shannon Miller's tumbling pass is way more impressive.

Such original routines in this EF, Gutsu, Okino, miller, yang bo, and yet bogi wins gold. Ohhh what it means to have a reputation...

@gymnasticsloverxoxo Yang Bo and Millre couldnt win gold with their botched dismounts. I agree Gutsu and Okino were better than Bogi though.

especially with a needle scale like the one she did... incredible control and position.

I have always loved this choreography.

gutsu, okino, yang and miller had the most original sets. it's a travesty that boguinskaya took the title this year with the most basic set.

Who won this event?
molly2222 4 years ago
Boginskya, then Gutsu. Shannon went all the way to 6th with that slip on the dismount! It's crazy how tight it was back then.

Check out the Chinese women on beam. They do some nice front aerials!:)

True. She was quite graceful! But even in the time of this routine, Yang Bo of China really did have a spectacular front aerial in her routine! :)

Yes, Shannon really does exemplary work on the beam. I think that the Chinese women learned their elegance in part from having seen it from Miller.

@intldawn Yep..Yang and Shannon were kind of in the same time period though so if yang bo came first it wasn't by much.

@mrparke007 Nadia did a front aerial in Montreal.
ShawnVikaKomova2012 6 months ago
@ShawnVikaKomova2012 I meant during this period in gymnastics. In Nadia's era, that was a very common skill on beam.
mrparke007 6 months ago
@mrparke007 Ah, yes.
