  • She is soooo beautiful! Awww really cute cute babies! X3 wonderful video! x3

  • what the hell am i looking at

  • oh one of them was named Chuck Norris!!!

  • @lockdown494 Taken from squid-world com: "While you can’t see it by looking at the females, they have an ink sac hidden under a set of glands in the gills. This serves as the protective shell for the eggs she will produce. During the mating process the sperm from the males are placed inside of this sac where they will fertilize her eggs. "

they're holding it with hooks infront of their mouths which prevents them from eating and therefore causes the squid's death soon after reproduction

  • Reminds me of the Courage the Cowardly Dog episode "The Last of the Starmakers." I remember watching it as a child and being heartbroken every time.

  • @TonitheTater Same here brother! or sister.

  • Great music... but why not start the video at 3:14?

  • it was wonderful but i was scared at the same time i mean i never want to see a giant squid up close way to dangerous

  • that was beatiful

  • Oh, the beauty of life. I don't think I can justify eating seafood anymore after watching this.

  • Amazing. Wait for it...this is truly worth your screen time. Enjoy the Squid Family. Look for the daddy squid. My son and I are obsessed. My squidlet loves this video.

  • really amazing

  • Its so cute, and this is truly amazing~

  • And when they grow up they'll become giant ass squids that fight with whales xD

  • The video should've started at 2:15 ZzzzZzzz.

  • Mother Squids have to be good at coming up with names.

  • whats the song called

  • @BenchMonster4XL1 The music is called 'I'll Read You A Story', the 6th track from the 2005 album 'The Golden Morning Breaks' by the French electronic/ambient composer 'Colleen' (aka Cécile Schott).

  • @&$)(;:/-!?,.'0987654321-/

  • That was cool, how do the squids create that sack?

  • what the fuck is going on

  • @number6of6the6beast That's a little harsh, isn't it?

  • this is not how stars are born.

  • It's mesmerizing

  • This is beautiful. Absolutely breathtaking. There's a "Courage the Cowardly Dog" episode based on the stars and the squid.

  • @azile9 last of the star makers =) space squids deep and beautiful episode

  • It is as if they truly are wee stars, birthed from her swirling arms, so like a galaxy. Sublime. When my daughter is born we will watch this together. To those of you who are moved by this, you are not strange, or crazy. You can simply appreciate the wonder of nature and the secrets she chooses to share with us. What a wonderful world this is.

  • Was this shot underwater?

  • @djmocok - nah it was shot in space actually

  • Is that a Humboldt squid? It looks it could be in terms of size.

  • mini ika musume.. everywhere...

  • Comment removed

  • @zeze40video What does that have to do with this video at all? xD

  • We are not alone. This animal has been gracefully reproducing like this for millions of years before we ever appeared. We get so caught up in our little selfish frightened lives and there is indescribable wonder unfolding right in front of us.

  • i dont why this is so beautiful. I feel like a lot of the reason its so hypnotizing is the song, but also there is something else about this footage that is amazing and so inspiring.

  • I find squids so fascinating I know there not the most beautiful creature out there but there so amazing and different(:

  • I WAS FUCKING HYPNOTIZED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I feel like Steve Zissou.

  • i shall call her squishy and she shall be mine

  • what was the music? I fell in love with the twinkling!!!!

  • It's so beautiful. Squids have been my favorite animal, ever since I read 20,000 leagues under the sea. Now that I have seen so placid and enjoyable as this, it warms me, and brings back childhood fantasies.

  • that took way to long to get to the point

  • They're soooo tiny! It's so cute!

  • very ghostlike but very beautiful

  • also, am i the only person who finds this video incredibly moving in a strange way?

  • @atoastedheart

no, there are many of us who have been moved as you have by this gentle, otherworldly beauty.

  • god or no god, watching this was definitely a spiritual experience

  • That is so beautiful. * o*

    Gave me the chills~.

Andandand - THEY DO LOOK LIKE STARS.

    Soooo cute...

  • That is amazing but just one question.

What the fuck is the big bag thing?

  • i like it but can't help: the thing hanging down the squid disgusts me somehow :( its moving etc..

  • I liked the long opening because it built suspense and a reward for those who watched it all the way through. Wouldn't change it!

  • Absolutely mesmerizing.

  • this is why i want to dedicate my life to squids

  • Religion is a useful device, as it helps justify life, can be a diversion and actually creates social circles in human society. However, it has its setbacks. Humans adapted to their environment, and religion is one such adaptation, a tool used by us. Unfortunately, there are always those who will misuse tools, applying them where they should not be applied. Saying that all of reality is based around you is never a good idea. I loved the background music, and the footage was amazing. 5/5

  • WOW thats cool

  • BORED

  • squids are my FAVOURITE animal. they r soo beautiful and AWESOME!!!!!;)

  • I am fascinated by these angels of the sea. =)

Everything about them is just soooo interesting.

I just wish people would let them be!

  • but they taste soooo gooooooooooood

  • omfg wow that is just amazing

  • amazing and beautiful

  • BORED

  • Fuck the dolphins. Save these things !

  • It looks like science fiction, but it was so alluring that I couldn't stop watching. Very beautiful.

  • Fantastic, interesting footage, though the opening was way too long. Loved seeing all the babies, though, very beautiful.

  • i wanna make love in this club...in this club....in this club

  • why did u make us stare @ the water for 3 minutes before we even saw the squid??

  • I got a little teary eyed, call me silly if you want, but that was beautiful. We think of squid as cold blooded creatures that live in the depths of the sea and we forget that they are wonderful mothers, that they have the intellegence of a house cat, and that they do feel emotions...oh what a wonderful thing. I hope that I'm as good a mother.

  • im with you bro, i love animals, whcih is why im enrolling in marine biology when im older, we should honor God's creations =D

  • you said it. I want my babies to know these creatures, they are wonderful and I hope that you do go into marine biology. I always thought that was what I would do when I got older, but turns out my calling was to be an au pair. Good luck and God Bless

  • @xxskeletonv3xx

Squids were not created by magic.

They evolved just like all other things in the ocean.

  • ahahahaha he actually believes that god created everything, fuck!

i don't get how anyone can be so narrowminded!!!

  • haha ya if god created everything, why is there soo many people with deformaties in the world

  • do u know why you piece of shit, cause to many wars, to many chemicals distribtued into the atmostphere where the onzone lays are, that it contaminates people, thats why when people get laid, they have a history check to see if any deformantions take place in the gene. ITs no GODS fault its ours, humans, look around people dieing of hunger, war, diseases, its out fault, we werent meant to go beyond Gods limit, but man (we wanted more)

  • @TehBlinker182 well I don't think that its narrow minded, To some creation is a better answer than cold science. I think both should be open to the ideas of the other, the fact that you seem so close minded to creation would make you guilty of the same behavior that you are accusing another of. To think of the complexity of the nervous system along, makes my head spin to think that it was mere chance that created it. Or even conception. That process is one of pure creation...

  • @FiestyCat86 But the nervous system didn't just pop up outa nowhere right when the earthly life began. It developed as organisms evolved over millions and millions of years. Just because something is virtually impossible to comprehend doesn't mean that chance and coincidence didn't play a part. But whether you believe in God or not, it's safe to say that life is beautiful in all of its variations and forms.

  • @me700gnomes Ok I hear you...you make valid arguments. I like that...I still feel that creation plays a part, but you do have a point.

  • @FiestyCat86 Fair enough. I''m trying to convert. Just trying to enlighten.

  • @FiestyCat86 yeaaaaaaaaah still not believing god created this or even anything for that point. and please don't phrase yourself like a scientest or somtehing on youtube 'cause just because you said it like that doesn't mean i didn't understand a word you said it just sounds really really crap

  • Well I didn't ask you, and just because I'm intelligent and can have a civilized conversation does not mean that I'm want anything other than conversation. I don't mind that you don't believe the way that I do, or that you don't think God exsits, thats your opinion, and your right. But please don't feel like you can attack me for the same right to express myself. I wasn't trying to convert anyone, just enlighten. Please feel free to answer back, but I think this is as far as this should go.

  • ur stupid

  • @FiestyCat86 do they feel emotions?

  • @FiestyCat86 you're silly

  • @me700gnomes lol... thank you I try...haha

  • @FiestyCat86

Actually, squid have pretty developed brain (or was it the octopus?)

  • @ingarsss Its both, but octopus are by far much more developed.

  • @dishglove I won't boo you, you have a right to your opinion, though i am curious as to why you stayed long enough to comment on it. I wonder why you think this, I've never seen a more beautiful birth in my life, and I've midwifed everything from a goat, to puppies, to my little sister. Non of them were glowing, and non of them had the magic factor that this seemed to have.

By the way, I'm curious not condemning, just so you know.

  • what kind of squid was it though? unless im misjudging the camera/light fixture, is it possible thats a small Humboldt?

  • the grey thingy...Is it...Like.. a bit bunch of eggs?

  • there aliens

  • Considering the way that other creatures give birth, this is probably one of the most beautiful processes in the world.

  • To think this man is my professor. Thank you so much for doing this! He definitely deserves his own Youtube video :o)

  • How did you manage to be in the right place at the right time?! I wonder how many were born? How many become survive till adulthood? Just goes to show how little we know about what lurks beneath. Awesome

  • this is amazing

  • I love the music along with it, eerie and beautiful just like the squid...

  • My apologies! You were right about the depth these images were taken: between 1500 and 2500 meters. Nevertheless, it would be interesting to have the exact depth measurements. An awesome document, however.

  • It seems hard to believe that this happened at 7000 feet below the sea, given the fact that there's still some light to be seen. Looks like it was between 250-300 meters deep instead. Anyway, I suggest to see this either in silence or with some Autechre's song like Silverside from their 1994 album called Amber. This is a truly moving scene, so awesome and meaningful in its own way. Thanks for such an outstanding achievement.

  • A wonderful and fascinating creature. Pity that most of us only think of them as a meal. We must stop looting the seas, once and for all. Save the squids now!

  • that was awesome.

  • AH SHINY BABY'S!!! :3

  • Does that fall off afterward or get sucked back up?

  • From what I've read, squid and octupi die shortly after reproduction (genetically programmed death, not from starvation like they told me in elementary school). So, probably neither.

  • and that mummy look like she is dancing~

  • so pretty.. haha.. it made me remind of the movie charlotte's web. the baby spiders

  • One of my favorite videos I've ever seen.

  • wow.

  • Amazing. Just, Amazing. What an awesome discovery!!

  • thank you, thank you, thank you

there need to be more videos like this out there.

  • My goodness, never have I witnessed something so out of this world. So much more yet to be discovered in those dark depths.

Truly magical, and the mother's eyes, wow.

  • 3:55 is good

  • Beautiful.

  • it was magical.

  • Man if a giant squid was to do that. it'll make an underwater snow storm of baby squids

  • Wait, what happens to the mother?

  • That was so beautiful. I've never seen anything like that before it was magical.

  • starts at 2:00

  • thank you.......

  • kewl

  • This, I think is one of the most beautiful footages I've ever seen in my life.

  • this is sooo pretty

there's an ethereal quality to it, and i love it because of it

  • Great vid, not CGI, the thing is that not all squids LAY there eggs, there are a few squid species that keep them close, till there ready to hatch, this squid uses a "pouch", turning it inside out when the hatchlings are ready. Though these number in the thousends, only about 2% will reach the adulthood.

  • wow very very beutifull video ^^

  • Very interesting vision of a GOD,giving birth to infinity of Worlds and Realities.Still...the GOD is within a reality of His water,so he is addicted to someone's else dream.

  • it looks like computer graphics

  • Pretty... but the fact that eventually people will be able to make CGI incredibly convincing bothers me. There are probably tons of people who can't tell even with this.

  • i see what you're saying.. i have definitely been blown away by CGI equally as much as in this video, but with this you KNOW someone was there, and it gives the whole thing an aura of novelty and exploration which i find inspiring and energizing in a totally different way than mindblowing CGI.

CGI is great, but it may never capture the authenticity of a video like this.

  • whats CGI?

  • that doesn't even deserve a reply...

  • A simple 2-second google search will tell you that Brad Seibel conducted this venture as a postdoctoral fellow at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute. Scientific institutes for marine biology don't provide funding for CGI, and all of this seems a long way to go for a hoax. I don't know what it is about calling bullshit on everything they see and hear that get some people's dicks hard but you could at least make sure you have some idea as to what you're talking about.

  • Beautiful video! Thanks for posting it!

  • that was really cool

    idk why..

  • thats amazing

  • what is the music in this? it's beautiful

  • What happens to the bag after all the eggs are laid?

  • the bag is the squids.

  • Lovely.

  • That is the most beautiful female squid I have ever seen... =) I hope she lives a long, happy life, with her babies.

  • O.O

  • i dont know what the fuck i just saw

  • lol

  • Wow! That was really pretty. But that squid looked gigantic, like a giant squid?? Was it?

  • no, about 2 feet long

  • wow, they're so pretty... and up close, the babies are so cute! :)

  • feeding asians for centuries...

  • Interesting, and, unfortunately - thanks to the music - also creepy.

  • awesome.

  • CALAMARI WOOT ITS DELIOUSUS

  • YUMMY!!

  • amazing I love squids I just don't like eating them

  • wow, this was amazing, thank you for sharing. Birth is a Beautiful thing, no matter what the species! : )

  • That was awesome! Was the grey part connected to the squid? What kind of squid is it?

  • i like the music

    what is it?
