  • Hey I just wanted to know , is this move a compound exercise?

  • is this as good as a normal bench press?

  • @TruDevilZz nope, because its on a guided track its taking away from some of your stabilization muscles, triceps, and shoulders. No machine will ever be as good as free weights.

  • The smith machine is just that... a machine. It's assisting you, and doing a lot of the work for you.

You should NEVER base your workout on machines. Machines are good for supplemental work, for some isolation, and if you have some type of injury that prevents you from using free weights. Free weights(dumbell/barbell) and bodyweight excercises should be the foundation of your workout. This is how you build strength, and see results the quickest...

  • Why worry about not utilizing your shoulders on the smith machine? You work out shoulders anyway right? Do shoulders on a different day than chest and work them on every angle. As long as your shoulders build strength you should be able to bench pretty well with freeweights in a decent time

  • thumbs up if you love the smith machine? oke thumbs down then

  • its better to use smith if you are having a trouble on free weights like uneven shoulder strength

  • one of the disadvantage is you need a spotter to watch you specially when lifting heavy, cause you cant throw the plates unlike on the free bench and it'll kill you

  • @smartbroke Well you aren't gonna build a more even strength using the smith though.

  • do you do squats on the smith cuz i do regular squats cuz the smith machine squat gets tons of controversy.

  • Can you compare this to a regular bench press like say the cons and pros..... Thank you in advance

  • @aqm360 All i know is is that i used this only for about a month and my joints were aching really bad because the smith machine has movement restrictions that's not to natural. But this workout machine is apparently safer than a regular flat bench press(so I have heard)

  • @aqm360

bench press is better because it works your muscles in 3 planes whereas machine chest workouts are in 1 plane. your stabilizer muscles are triggered to balance and control the barbell when using a bench press and those get strengthened whereas the smith machine is already balanced and controlled, you just have to lift it, which isolated the chest. freeweights > machine workouts BUT i always use machine workouts and im 6'2 220lbs and i have a barrel chest

  • this fucking babyface again

  • EW THE SMITH MACHINE... AND TOUCH YOUR CHEST... YOUR NOT HARDCORE

  • I was looking for a way to increase my benching! I do about 75 lbs total without a partner so I don't get stuck but now I'm going to look for this machine at the gym and try it out!! THANKS

  • @FlashMotorGuy007 o because when i went to the gym today i couldnt even bench the 45 bar with 45s on each side and on a smith machine i did 180

  • doesnt smith machine take away some weight ?

  • Smith machines are good if you want to massage your ego by kidding yourself you are stronger than you actually are. Normal bench press is both safer and a much more useful exercise.

  • I use this at my local snap fitness. It give you what one would call "perfect form" so you can work soley on your pectoral muscles. Some people complain that it doesnt work your stabilizer muscles which will make you hurt yourself on regular bench, but you can strengthen those same muscles with isolation workouts and make them even more effective. and at my gym the bar weighs around 45 pounds

  • will this help even out my pecs

  • @wataaaaaaahhhhhh

    15 lbs

  • @wataaaaaaahhhhhh it weights like 0- 10 pounds. it barely weighs antrhing.

  • i always put that bench seat thing up a little so im not lying completly falt and then i do 30 kg on each side, 60kg total. is that ok or should i lay flat and line it with my nipples for better form ?

  • only bitches use these

  • wear a shirt and underwear dear.

  • is smith machine bench press and flat blench press is the same?

  • @lupitlupitan smith machine just supports your shoulders so you dont tilt back and forth while pressing, if you dont use the smith machine, then your still bench pressing just without support

  • does the smith machine take off weight? cuz i tried 170 on just a regular flat bench, couldnt get it once. (im 15 btw on my high school football team.) then 2 days later, well rested, i could get it 170 three times on the smith machine. the last rep i needed a lil bit if help. but anyways, could somebody message me about this bcuz i am really curious.

  • @on3n1ght3r11 some smith machines use a bar that is only 25 lbs, not the 45 lbs you usually find on an olympic bar for free weights. you also don't have to work all of you stabilizer muscles on the smith machine, allowing for more focus and power on the straight pushing of the weight. just 2 possibilities......

  • i want a body like that damn your ripped not too big great defenition gd work

  • Actually studies show people can lift MORE using a Smith Machine. There are pros and cons. On the plus side it is safer and you can easily make micro adjustments how you position yourself and/or the bench. No practical with free weights. On the negative side free weight brench presses and other exercies forces you to balance the weight, thus developing smaller secondary muscles. Important if you pose in contests, not if you don't. Given a choice, do both.

  • I wish I had a nickle for all the things people "heard" that were pure BS. I just got a Bodysolid Smith Machine. Guess what, the bar assembly which includes the two sleeves that slide up and down the vertical bars is a 1 piece welded assembly. How much does it weight? 32 pounds. I know I weighed it. You know what else, I ALWAYS workout looking in a mirror. Why? Becasue you have a much better appreciation HOW you are lifting. You SEE minor tilts and other little things that matter.

  • who works out without a shirt. fucking faget.

  • I bet you get a ton of ass

  • Scott, there are a lot of studies that show people can lift less weight using the smith machine. It has to do with the lifting curve that you get from regular benching. You should also mention how much the bar weighs on a smith machine. I heard it only weighs 12 pounds.

  • I saw you at a bar in the city haha! How often do you drink or do you drink at all? I work out during the week but I can't help it on the weekends. I know alcohol is bad for you when trying to build muscle.

  • enuff smith machune

  • @ScottHermanFitness Hi How much does the bar on the smith machine weight on its own?

  • @musclemage still weighs 20kg (same as olympic bar) well my schools one does anyway so i assume they all do :)

  • when you bench on a smith machine is it like doing a normal bench press

  • your lying the wrong way haha

  • HI scott is it possible to loose 11 pounds, AND gain muscle at the same time? because its realy hard to get rid of that last fat. Very nice videos by the way! big inspiration :)

  • @Manowarrior1990 by working out. you are going to gain the muscle and burn fat at the same time. they work together

  • this is a workout video not for wankers! gosh focus on what he says and dos rather than his apparels and clothes

  • Could you put on a shirt? I'm mean no offense you look ripped and all, but you don't need to be shirtless on almost all of your videos. :P

  • How many pounds would be the smithmachine bar by itself?

People say 2 plates on each side gives you 225 not true maybe 205 or 210 but would be more accurate?

  • What do you recommend to do when one of your pectorals is larger than your opposite one?

  • how much does the bar ussaly weigh?

  • the bar can't go very low with the tabs on :/

  • NIPPLE LINE ! >:D

  • @rawrkikii fo sho!!

  • @ScottHermanFitness immaa put whip cream on your nipples and suck them off :) tehe

  • at 1:30 u cant go any lower by using those tap, its not going to work.

  • @Triw0831 yeah.. that smith machine is built weird. most allow you to put them lower. good eye!

  • If you have enough space, you need one of those in your apartment man! Love the looks of this machine :)

  • @kbw1970 Id love one in my housE! just make sure you bolt it to the ground! :)

  • thank you very much

  • @mourad806 anytime!

  • its just wrong to see girls leave weird sex comments.

  • @habz11 .....most of them are probably guys dude.....

  • Old school smith machine! LOL, nice!

  • Free Weights > Smith Machines

  • @DontClickMexD yes but both can be used! and different exercises are a good thing!

  • Whats a lift that will work my buccinators, Scott?

  • nice. thanks

  • u go scott

  • Nice pecs and biceps :)

  • And a video of an Incline press as well?

  • Scott, can you do a video for decline?

  • great machine for solo bench-pressing.

  • i like your nipples (:

  • @rawrkikii Your channel/vid is restraining-order scary

  • @GrappyFlappy i like cats

  • insightful, thanks

  • i usually do bench press on a machine because i think its better because i go alone and i have no one to help me... its the same?

  • So, how would you set this up in the Smith machine had a built-in slight incline? The Smith machines I've usually seen have a 5 to 10 decgree tilt bult into the mechanism. Even more, I'm interested in a bench press variation I've recently read about, but have never tried. The reverse grip bench press is supposed to target the upper chest better, and I'd love to see it demonstrated on a Smith machine.

  • My shoulders hurt doing this for the 1st time.

  • @EctomorphicBuilder was the bar on your nipple line?

  • I LOVE THIS SMITH MACHINE !

  • smith machine is so shit. It's for douchebags.

It doesnt train all the supporting and balancing muscles of the upper body, just chest, plus it can wreck your joints eventually.

  • @areyu93 you have no fucking idea what you are talking about. And what a dumb and stupid thing you've just said...

Who gives a fucking shit, when I use that machine, I just want to train my chest... and that's what it does, better than anything else, because you can focus solely on pressing the bar using your chest. Don't give me bullshit about not working different muscles, the best exercises are the ones that isolate a movement to a specific muscle group.

  • @Soetman "the best exercises are the ones that isolate a movement to a specific muscle group."

I lol'd. Sorry, not even Scott Herman would agree with you on that one.

  • change your shorts for fuck sakes

  • @jarvyroth lol

  • @jarvyroth take a class on MARKETING for ***** sakes :-P

  • You are one of the coolest instructors iv'e seen, but that look you gave to the camera at the end will keep me up for a few nights lol

  • beginners have no need for the smith machine.

  • smith bench is isolating, i would prefer without smith machine...

  • very good video, well explained, i use a lot of ur exercises in my workouts and im seeing some great results, thanks for everything!

  • I love these machine for half / full squats.

  • Do you know how much the bar weighs?

  • @carrillop2 It varies depending on gym. But it's about 20kilos

  • Yummy nipples !

  • One of my greatest mysteries solved! I had tried googling the angled smith machine because I couldn't figure out which way to face when doing this exercise, and here you are doing it! Thanks, Scott! I don't know what I'd do without you! <==3 By the way, would I face the same direction if I were doing squats on this same machine? Thanks again!

  • i love the smith machine

  • Perfect!

  • do a seated cleans with dumbbells tutorial

  • haha scott said nipple

  • Hehe, Scott, Now you know those tabs aren't going to work, since the bar won't come all the way down if you do) Awesome vid though, And yes, i do LOVE the Smith Machine,

  • Scott, my gym has the smith machine facing the wall the oposite way. Is it still ok to do the exercise? Thanks. Love the vids

  • @glyconerd Are you saying your Smith Machine is so close to the wall you can't get a bench in there with room for your legs. Sounds like your gym is overcrowded with machines. That,, or the gym owner only intended it for leg exercises, ie. squats etc.

  • @glyconerd why would it matter which way it faces? lol

  • @MattMacCallum prob because of the position of the hinges

  • this one is very helpful if you re just startin up, it will give strength and confidence !

  • Do a how to floor press I really want to see one of those

  • Very helpful thanks!

  • @aledooo123 smith machines are easier because you don't have to worry about balancing the weights.

  • that was the best video i have one of those on my gym i was afraid to use it but now i know how thanks dude keep posting those kind of vids

  • Dude you work out 24/7 and you still dont look "huge" or "Roided" out

  • @liljuve13 because he doesnt take roids.. he doesn't want to look massive he is a fitness model?

  • comon the vid has been out for like an hour, how the fuck could haters already have found the video to dislike it? :S

  • G-reat

  • i just wanna make sure. On a smith machine the weight of the bar doesn't count right?

  • @bambarby Its more like 10 lbs instead of the regular 45 lbs.

  • @bambarby i mean a little bit, its not weightless. You can stack on more weight because it doesnt require as much stabilizing muscles.

  • In my gym theres one of these except the bar can also move backwards and forwards, i was wondering if you know the purpose of that?

  • This is great since I injured my shoulder :(

  • the smith machine bench press is way easier

  • the smith machine is genious!

  • suwnica kurwa, a nie smith machine

  • i dont have one of those :(((

  • Good video Scott. I was looking for a video like this!!!

  • a nice change from the cable machines

  • nice but I prefer the normal one, so that shoulders work aswell to keep the balance

  • @ScottHermanFitness Whats the difference between this one and ordinary bench press? Greetings bro -.-

  • @qPolakq The Smith machine is a lot lighter and more stable. Regular bench press will give you a lot more strength but this is more so for beginners

  • Scot your very motivating, your not like the other robotic goon instructors, your like a real dude

  • great info scott! do you have any suggestions on working the lower/inside portion of the chest, my right pec is quite a bit larger than my left in that area :/

  • sexy

  • thanks!

  • lats are looking large!

  • so fucking long and anoying intro !!! put that at the end or in the description

  • hey scott i was wondering could you do a video on what to do to start out if ur overall goal for example is to gain muscle and well basically look like you. btw love the vids :) oh and the car u shud try get some drive by vids of that animal

    anyway cheers man :P

  • That machine is made for Pussies who cant use the real Bench press!!

  • @thedanwriter1 agree... i always see kids doing it and using pathetic weight, thinking they are jacked..

  • does it matter if the smith machine is angled or vertical ?

    thanks!

  • ive got an EZ bar, and i i was wondering if the same effects would happen if you were to do bench press with the ez bar rather than the barbell?

  • good job!

  • @luv6pup thanks man!

  • @ScottHermanFitness

    Good job man!!

  • @ScottHermanFitness that was sarcasm

  • @ScottHermanFitness Great HInt, tks dude

  • First.

  • @TrevorXstyle second
