I was wondering where this awesome song came from xD I need to watch this show now. My sister watched and she loved it when she was a kid. Sadly it is not a very well known anime :(
this is deffo one my top 10 animes, love it!! such a shame it wasn't more popular or longer, they should deffo remake it with newer animation like they did with Eva.
I might not have seen the whole series yet,but I think that Generator Gawl is oddly realistic and exceptionally well animated for a relatively low budget anime.
It is one of those gems that remain underrated for some reason...
OMGGGGGG i cant believe i forgot this anime! i used to love it! it's been like 10yrs since i last saw it and i just found it TODAY in my anime book which i haven't looked thru in 2 years, but i was looking to find my GTO anime and ran across this in my book and took it out and watched it and fell in love again! omagaaaaaa! but yes totally underrated, =(

Holy hell. Suddenly, I am a freshmen again, being lent my upperclassman's VHS copy of this. Way to take me the fuck back. I can't believe I remember the lyrics as well as I do...
I would hate it if someone tries to make a Live-action movie of this brilliant anime: It would be crapified. The plot would be different. They'll use crappy CGI effects...
If they release a Tatsunoko vs. Capcom 2, Gawl had BETTER be in it. And if they decided to do character themes, "I Want Out" better play when he's fighting. XD
It's funny, I remember on VHS they used to change the way the opening sequence at the beginning of each episode was presented. Like one would have subs in English, then in Japanese using romanized letters, then in kanji/kana, then dubbed with an English version of the song. That's what I call trying too hard to please everyone.
Anyway, thanks for replying. It was about time something brought be back to this video for a few more viewings.
Hah, this was the first anime series I watched that didn't air on TV. When my local rogers video first stocked anime, and after I had convinced my parents that all anime wasn't "Japanese cartoon porn" this was the only series they had in full. To this day I'm still looking for a box set of this series, which to me was really an amazing and underrated series. Though my opinion could be biased by the fact that it was the first real anime I ever saw.
I will always feel that the late 90's early 2000 was the best time for anime as whole, you could even say the peak of it. I cant really get into the stuff after that, apart from a couple of series.
No your right! The best Animes were made in the 90's hands down! Why? Because that was the period were the most original concepts were done. All the animes that come out today are just extensions oft those concepts. Which is why I don't care much for the new age stuff! Because most of it has been done before and it was done better. Tatsunoku studios as a whole has never gotten the recognition they deserve! And that's a shame! I would highly recommend their work so go check um out!
And Fuck you whoever rated my comment down! It's the truth! Anime today is suffering from what I like to call Pixar Syndrome! Pixar makes the same movie every year but just changes the character and the setting and people fall for it every time! So if you want to watch the same fucking show with different characters in a different setting you can count me out! And don't try to throw the death note crap at me ether! Death Note is just a horror movie they made into a cartoon and nothing more!
You're right, I have a hard time telling the difference between "The Incredibles" and "Ratatouille". And "Cars" and "Up", other than the fact that one is about a race car that gets stuck in a remote town and learns the value of friendship over financial success, and the other is about an old man trying to find meaning in his life after the passing of his longtime love, they're exactly the same!
Thank You! But the worst thing is Pixar takes home Academy Award after Academy Award while great films like Coraline will never get the recognition they deserve. Now that's just sad!
Thanks it's nice to know others feel this way too, it's like animation studios got really lazy all of a sudden. I mean there are animes from the 80's that look and feel better than the "assembly line" stuff that 's being made right now. It just boggles my mind.
Speaking of Tatsunoko I loved Gatchaman as a kid, "G-force" in my country.
G-Force was never finished here in the states. I'm glad ADV final released the whole thing. But I have to ask you have you seen Teknoman? It to was never finished in the states! I just bought the dvd box set of it remastered and uncut and it's freaking awesome. And if you liked Gatchaman and Generator Gawl you'll love Teknoman! I'd even go so far as to call it Tatsunoko studio's best work!
I like 90's Anime, but I'd have to say the anime from the past two years has got to be some of the best Anime out there. Specifically, KAIBA, Mononoke, and Mushishi. All three are critically acclaimed and changed their respective genre's. I mean, I like Cowboy Bebop as much as the next guy, And Gawl is one of my favorite Anime, But Seriously, Mononoke and Mushishi are some of the few series to make me cry like a baby.
Also: The Melancholy Of Haruhi Suzumiya, probably my favorite Anime of all time, does exactly what you say, and then changes it. It takes the mold, IE: Slice of life Highschool anime, and then throws it the fuck in the opposite direction. And it's awesome, because Instead of playing stupid stereotypes, they typecast and then use them as bases for more interesting characters. I really adore the series for that.
I haven't gotten around to seeing The Melancholy Of Haruhi Suzumiya. But That's just my point. Animes have become diamonds in a see of diamonds. It's almost impossible to find something different. And with the ninja anime crowd of 13 year old retards lowering the standards of what gets a mainstream release here in the west! It's more like a sea of diamonds with every other diamond being a dud!
Tatsunoko Pro was responsible for animation production in evangelion, and for animation work and production in generator gawl. That's where the similarities come from. There is no relation between eva and gg, aside from that.
You can find Volumes 3 and 4 on eBay. It's just a whole lot more expensive to buy the box set, but I got lucky and bought the entire box set for $25 new on eBay. I fell in love with the series.
