  • As a music teacher, intonation is their main problem. The best band sounds bigger and better in tone.

  • แม่งเจ๋ง

  • สุด ยอด ว่ะ

  • Good

  • This is so original.

  • damn, pretty dang good :P i wish my school's brass sounded like this :o

  • Mellos complete rocked out on this. The mellos were so in tune and blended. Trumpets were meh...

  • now try it at 180bpm...

  • Your mellos definatly owned this,

  • this is my favorite out of them all, your small but you know how to take up space. Thats something our band director wants from us; as do any band director. Keep up the good work. :) Good job brass.

  • Comment removed

  • negative comments... way too many. i enjoyed it. i felt every single note.

  • your low brass disappoints me.

  • Before a competition? What's with the random white shoes?

  • sounds like the trumpets blasted way too hard on the big hit, and subsequently ran out of breath

  • way not bad

  • I think the problem with the trumpets is they think that when there music says "loud" they ALL play loud. But they don't realize together they all play louder then they are supposed to.

  • wow if thats just ur brass line and thats a high school brass line....... then u got it good lol we got like 5 baritones 1 tuba 5 trumpets and no mellephones:(

  • step one: use contras instead of sousaphones

  • @mrtangerine999 Nothing wrong with a decent sousa

  • @MrGuitar144 But a decent contra is better :)

  • @MrTubanator But is it really so much better that its noticeable: No. Colleges use them, really the only bands that use contras are DCI. A good tubist sounds good on any tuba.

  • @MrGuitar144 Your right to an extent. But the average band with sousas only use them because they know they can't march contras. I've had several band directors tell me that, right in front of their players. If you get one good tuba player, and have him play a sousaphone, then a contra, most people would prefer the contra's sound. It is more opinion based though I guess, so whatever, lol.

  • Mellos... nuff said!

  • Flawless victory!

  • I love how you guys used Phantom Regiment's version

  • MORE TUBA!

  • you guys sound great :D

  • Not bad but I say leave this warm up to Phantom Regiment. No HS is ever gonna match them.

  • damn, you guys got a big hornline, compared to ours... :( and really nice sound too

I remember i saw Gainesville High School do this for their show one year, is this GHS?

  • What High School is this?

  • trumpets were too loud the entire time, i couldn't hear the tubas and the mellos we're spot the f*ck on.

  • @mikedaguy You can't fully hear a tuba or sousaphone unless you are 18 feet from the bell, since most of the lower notes are not fully out of the instrument. The Bb below the bass clef has a wavelength that is about 36 feet long, 18 feet of that is within the instrument itself, the rest extends out from the bell. Also, as a point of interest, I would question the reproduction quality of the microphone on the video camera.

  • In the beggining there were times when the trumpets seemed to take over the band and that wasnt a good thing. When the mellos came in I was very surprised at how good they sounded and was a relief to hear from them after just hearing trumpets blaring the melody with some tuning issues and the low brass hiding, I could barely hear them. Overall that was pretty good though.

  • this was absolutely amazing i think i love it better than all the woodwinds like flute that usually play canon

  • good job mellos i wuish our mellows were tht good

  • Tubas sound really good at the first entrance. mellophones timing is a little off in the descending concert D run. ensamble should strive for better tone throughout crescendos. starts to get slightly edgy. nice trumpet at the end.

  • This is Lakewood Ranch High School from Bradenton Florida. Same year they took 2nd place in the national competition at the Fiesta Bowl in Pheonix Arizona

  • decent very decent, tuning can be better

  • Well done. I'm a drummer so i can't comment on anything musical, but it sounded real nice. Especially for that size group.

  • That is the best comment I have ever seen.

  • Yall want a great marching band go look up York HS Marching Falcon band and watch pur princess anne comp. We were #1 and continue to hold our place

  • talented group of kids.. i'd love to work with them.. Im guessing they have watched and LISTENED to phantom regiment play this a few times

  • Thats nice... Thats real real nice.

    Great job!!!

  • do you know where i can get the sheet music for this

  • which school is this anyway??

  • not bad

  • Wrong notes in trumpets at :19.

    Good Job Mellos :)

Baritones, tone needs work, along with phrasing.

    Sousa's, very nice.

    I assume this was a marching show, just one question;

Why aren't you marking time and doing step stationary step off's?

  • I like the way you guys sound just like Phantom Regiment, good job.

  • no they dont, pr's 1st trumpet section is much stronger.. they have to many 2nd and 3rd trumpet players

  • well here just school kids and well it sounds great me.

  • please do me a favor hold your horns up the correct way all the time

  • cause theyre on the field marching and being judged right

  • no you sound better with better posture than you do slumpt over. have you ever seen people with bad posture play a horn good?

  • dizzy gilespie and his cheek problemo

  • well besides that. i mean its true you can sound alot better and look alot better when you put more effort into your posture.

  • this doesn't sound anything like Canon in D

  • phantom regiment 03 go look it up

  • wow euphonium fail.....

  • do u guys do funerals?

  • Does any1 have the score for this?

  • I do

  • Trombones seem to have the same problem as our band.....too much breathing in between whole notes

Dunno why, but that seems like a common thing for trombones, I have the same problem with blaring and breathing

  • where exactly are the trombones?

  • Drum Corps Internation doesn't allow trombones. Or woodwinds for that matter.

  • and this is a marching band. not a Drum corp, so you can't use that arguement. Don't see any corp in DCI with sousaphones. Just saying. Some marching bands don't use trombones, they have there trombones switch to bari for marching season

  • I wasn't trying to explain the trombones absence. Just saying somethin about DCI.

  • maybe its just a sectional

  • there is a difference between fortissimo and "ITS SUPPOSED TO BE LOUD SO IM GONNA BLAST!!", high school musicians are not mature enough to recognize that yet.

    still good tho.

  • In my high school band, we have fortissiumo, but when instructed, we have one dynamic higher, RFL. I'll give you a hint, the "R" stands for "Real" and the "L' stands for "Loud." You can figure out what the "F" stands for. =)

  • And with that, tone quality goes out the window.

  • MOST high school musicians do not understand that. Let's give the benefit of the doubt to the kids who are in corps and in high school at the same time (I started when I was 16).

  • @MarinesKing Most* high school musicians.

  • @MarinesKing I disagree with that statement (respectfully of course!). If instructed to a high school group just to play loud I agree you get the Blast. When someone knows how to produce a loud, focused sound, with good pitch and tone, usually they can communicate that to HS musicians. Most do not take the time to do that. With this video I don't think there is a clear representation of the sound of this group b.c. of the poor microphone on the camera.

  • @MarinesKing My friend, I respectfully disagree. There are a select few, like myself, that understand the dynamic contrasts needed to bring life to music. There are quite a number out there that just blast, so I do understand where you're coming from, however, I do believe there are more of us out there that do know what we're talking about. Good day.

  • dang thats a small bandroom

  • It's actually our chorus room...bandroom is across the way and much bigger.

  • Finally! Some sousaphone player with enough common sense to hold thier frikken horns the right way!!!

  • guess nobody noticed? this definitely is not canon in D, its sanctus, they got the sheet music from a transcription some DCI corps use.

  • Sanctus is a variation of Canon in D.

  • what a treat to see and hear young musicians produce sounds like this, with so many h s band-leaders having troubles getting kids to stay w/ band after leaving middle-school.. gotta be the mystique of, drum-corps, that keeps a morale-level so consistently high, each season... looking forward to this 2009 summer's sounds.... bdfdjoe

  • I'm going to be part of that soon. I'm learning how to play the baritone and next year I'll be part of that vid.

  • i love this song.

last year it was our warm up.

    :)

    powellPRIDE

  • very nice...

    watch the tuning.

That one cut-off was superb though.

  • does anyone have the sheet music for this? i could really use it!

  • i have the sheet music. if you will send me a message with your email i will send it to you.

  • nice release!

  • pretty good. there were some tuning issues in the trumpets. horns sounded great on there entrence! nice low brass.

  • to make it sound more Drum Corp wise, you need to work mainly on tunning and balance. Every single note needs to be in tune with the whole. It sounds very decent already. Also make sure that people dont Bladd.. That will ruin a beautiful tune such as this.

  • can you send me the score sheet? =]

  • love the horn at 0:30

  • eeep...

  • Does anyone have the sheet music from this version. I like it. Please contact me at my channel.

  • nice!!! i like it!

  • Pitch boys and girls:). And ride those crescendos all the way out. you break the beauty when you don't.

other than that not too bad for a high school band.

  • As a massive fan of Phantom Regiment and Harmonic Journey, good job! Just wish the low brass entrance at the beginning was louder!!! watch the pitch. well done

  • Where can I find the sheet music of this peace?? I really like it. But the normal Canon in D doesn't sound like this.

  • check out my channel i based my version of canon off phantoms and i have the sheets.

  • cause its not normal canon in D this is the DCI version!! phantom plays it. its their piece. these guys did a pretty sweet job!

  • not too bad for a HighSchool marching band.

  • check out Phantom Regiment when they play it if u havent already. its so cool!

  • Whoa....watch the crescendo you really had a bunch of player stick out bad....and towards the end your intonation started getting shaky.

  • this is really crackly.. I wonder if better sound quality would have made it sound like everything matched better?

  • im soo mad that we didnt play this FREAKING GUD SONG during m bad!

  • Pretty nice, though as usual the trumpets, baritones and a few mellos don't blend so well

  • not everyone is Phantom lol. No offense to this hornline but i never have high expectations of high schools doing Phantoms version of Canon

  • which school? xD

  • Site read my ass....It's good just some people got a bit too excited and distorted tone quality. Nice mellos.

  • very good

the tuba really do sound nice.

  • not bad at all.

  • sounds pretty good!

  • can u send me the music for all the parts please if u can????

  • What regard the notes it isn't a real difficult item, start listening and it will be all right :P

  • Trumpets intonation at the beginning was interesting :d.

  • 1) Re-record with better camera that can take loud volumes

    2) Post

    3) ????

    4) Profit

  • profit?

  • hey where can i get the music for this song i cant find it anywhere and my band director cant either ?so if u could help me out thx

  • is this a drum corps?

  • No, not a drum corp, but that's the sound we strive for. This is the hornline portion of a high school marching band.

  • nice sound....just watch out for the blaring in the baritone section.

  • Very nice! I was skeptical when I saw "Canon" and also sousaphones. But great job!

  • very nice tubas! i admire anyone who can get a sound like that out of a sousaphone!

  • good. solo at the end!

  • It's nice to see people still utilizing the beautiful music from that AMAZING Phantom show. And nice job by the way.

  • nice mellows!

If someone could give me the music for this or at least show me where to get it id appreciate it!

  • same here, if anyone has the music i would really appreciate it!

  • same here..

  • Wow me too...

  • Transcribe it! It really isn't that hard. I have half done in three days (4 hours maybe).

  • guess i could...

  • i love

  • this was really cool

  • i like, just trumpets need to watch their inntonation

  • Sounded like some trumpet tuning problems in the beginning but otherwise I enjoyed it.

  • i guess not horrible, i mean it was bad recording quality but i thought it was pretty good

  • LOL!!! at :50 the bid banner (pink and green) , i have had that at my old school!!!

  • Thats What I call Music .

  • great job but just one thing. Wheres the BONES?

  • there are no trombones in DCI bands. this is a school dci type thingy

  • they use marching trombones

    alot similar to baritones

  • u mean a key trombone? i've never seen one in a DCI

  • no they dont... they use trumpets, mellophones, baritones, euphoniums and contras

  • what i meant is alot of HS bands use marching trombones, i know of some local schools that use them.

  • Whats the diffrence between a marching trombone and a normal trombone?

And yes, Baritone bugles use the same mouthpiece as a trombone, thats why a lot of trombonist's march baritone when they go to a corp

  • marching trombones use valves (look like marching baritones) but have the bore of a trombone

  • Those are just called valved trombones, And those are used for baritone players, its mainly for jazz band that ive seen them used, baritone players play them for the trombone sound, but their basically a baritone

  • it seems like this band is trying to emulate a corps and corps dont use trombones...

  • omg what fricken high school is this?? and bravo on an excellent brass ensemble! these young musicians must have a great band director. keep up the amazing work

    Cadets 06, 07

  • would it be possible to send me the score please?

  • same here. i'd like a score of this too.

  • ahh me too... I'd give money for it! such a beautiful peice...

  • Good job! I got that chill down my spine like I did when I heard Phantom perform it for the first time...very few high school bands do that to me anymore.

  • Tell some of those euph players to switch to contra, and some of the trumpets to mello, and you could seriously have a tone almost identical to PR.

  • these people do sound very nice, but saying that with a few tweaks in the instruments would make them sound like PR is like saying they're all professional musicians; high schools wouldn't sound like PR anytime.

  • Firstly, I said Could, and secondly, I hope you are aware that the PR is MADE UP of high school students as well as college students.

  • but it is made up of the best of the best of all high schools

  • lol

  • get contras

  • We did! We bought them from Phantom Regiment and debuted them in the 2007 season...they're awesome horns!

  • good..I didn't expect a good response that fast lol

  • also if you ever do this song again..PLEASE get more low brass..it is a nice sound but after hearing phantom the low brass being covered up at their part 44 sec-the end just doesn't work..and im asking nicely, im not trying to be a douche lol

  • It's such a wonderful arrangement, it is only truly represented by a group of musicians like Phantom Regiment.

  • I have loved this arrangement since 2003. If Phantom had it for sale on their website I would buy it for my band.

  • where did you guys get the arrangement?

  • Man id love to have this arrangement, beautiful.

  • not bad :) sounds nice! :D

  • i think the device used to record this ruined the quality of it alot...

  • its pretty good except the fact that you stole a song directly from Phantom kinda like the school that stole the Cavaliers uniform.

  • Stole? Why so harsh? Is there any chance at all that perhaps there's an affiliation with someone on staff at PR and the arrangement is used with permission?

  • could be hmmm. but i love the lack of woodwinds, more schools should be influenced by dci

  • your trumpets need to tune

  • Other than the blaring baritones and the out of tune trumpets it is really good... Especially for a high school band.

  • WOW. Thats was really good. i got goosebumps just listening to it. wut school is this

  • it's the Lakewood Ranch High School, from florida.

  • excellent!!!
