this is my favorite out of them all, your small but you know how to take up space. Thats something our band director wants from us; as do any band director. Keep up the good work. :) Good job brass.
I think the problem with the trumpets is they think that when there music says "loud" they ALL play loud. But they don't realize together they all play louder then they are supposed to.
wow if thats just ur brass line and thats a high school brass line....... then u got it good lol we got like 5 baritones 1 tuba 5 trumpets and no mellephones:(
@MrTubanator But is it really so much better that its noticeable: No. Colleges use them, really the only bands that use contras are DCI. A good tubist sounds good on any tuba.
@MrGuitar144 Your right to an extent. But the average band with sousas only use them because they know they can't march contras. I've had several band directors tell me that, right in front of their players. If you get one good tuba player, and have him play a sousaphone, then a contra, most people would prefer the contra's sound. It is more opinion based though I guess, so whatever, lol.
@mikedaguy You can't fully hear a tuba or sousaphone unless you are 18 feet from the bell, since most of the lower notes are not fully out of the instrument. The Bb below the bass clef has a wavelength that is about 36 feet long, 18 feet of that is within the instrument itself, the rest extends out from the bell. Also, as a point of interest, I would question the reproduction quality of the microphone on the video camera.
In the beggining there were times when the trumpets seemed to take over the band and that wasnt a good thing. When the mellos came in I was very surprised at how good they sounded and was a relief to hear from them after just hearing trumpets blaring the melody with some tuning issues and the low brass hiding, I could barely hear them. Overall that was pretty good though.
Tubas sound really good at the first entrance. mellophones timing is a little off in the descending concert D run. ensamble should strive for better tone throughout crescendos. starts to get slightly edgy. nice trumpet at the end.
This is Lakewood Ranch High School from Bradenton Florida. Same year they took 2nd place in the national competition at the Fiesta Bowl in Pheonix Arizona
and this is a marching band. not a Drum corp, so you can't use that arguement. Don't see any corp in DCI with sousaphones. Just saying. Some marching bands don't use trombones, they have there trombones switch to bari for marching season
there is a difference between fortissimo and "ITS SUPPOSED TO BE LOUD SO IM GONNA BLAST!!", high school musicians are not mature enough to recognize that yet.
In my high school band, we have fortissiumo, but when instructed, we have one dynamic higher, RFL. I'll give you a hint, the "R" stands for "Real" and the "L' stands for "Loud." You can figure out what the "F" stands for. =)
MOST high school musicians do not understand that. Let's give the benefit of the doubt to the kids who are in corps and in high school at the same time (I started when I was 16).
@MarinesKing I disagree with that statement (respectfully of course!). If instructed to a high school group just to play loud I agree you get the Blast. When someone knows how to produce a loud, focused sound, with good pitch and tone, usually they can communicate that to HS musicians. Most do not take the time to do that. With this video I don't think there is a clear representation of the sound of this group b.c. of the poor microphone on the camera.
@MarinesKing My friend, I respectfully disagree. There are a select few, like myself, that understand the dynamic contrasts needed to bring life to music. There are quite a number out there that just blast, so I do understand where you're coming from, however, I do believe there are more of us out there that do know what we're talking about. Good day.
what a treat to see and hear young musicians produce sounds like this, with so many h s band-leaders having troubles getting kids to stay w/ band after leaving middle-school.. gotta be the mystique of, drum-corps, that keeps a morale-level so consistently high, each season... looking forward to this 2009 summer's sounds.... bdfdjoe
to make it sound more Drum Corp wise, you need to work mainly on tunning and balance. Every single note needs to be in tune with the whole. It sounds very decent already. Also make sure that people dont Bladd.. That will ruin a beautiful tune such as this.
As a massive fan of Phantom Regiment and Harmonic Journey, good job! Just wish the low brass entrance at the beginning was louder!!! watch the pitch. well done
Those are just called valved trombones, And those are used for baritone players, its mainly for jazz band that ive seen them used, baritone players play them for the trombone sound, but their basically a baritone

Stole? Why so harsh? Is there any chance at all that perhaps there's an affiliation with someone on staff at PR and the arrangement is used with permission?
As a music teacher, intonation is their main problem. The best band sounds bigger and better in tone.
