Auto tune is best used for rappers and artists who can't really sing (which is most of them nowadays), and just as a touch up at certian parts of the song for the effect for artists who can sing. Autone just doesn't work for MJ. There was vocal skill, originality and power in his raw voice. I wouldn't tweak it much.

It would find the closest note that the singer is trying to hit and edit their voice so that it does reach that note they are attemptng. @kewlsan I've autotuned Michael before and it sounded great...it's just that there's SOOOO many parameters in Antares Auto-tune that when your without the knowledge of what a scale is and what retuning is and what G-Minor is or any other scale for that matter, it gets confusing and starts to sound like bullshit when you don't do it right...I personally think Michael sounds better without it but I honestly think a professional should even bother if he or she were to modify Mike's voice. =]
