  • i stood 15 feet behind the tree at sears points which is now infineon race way when you were still aloud to stand that close. man i wish they would still let you theres nothing like it

  • haha, its because of that junk FRAM filter. :D

  • I allways say to people, even if your not that interested in motorsport just do a top fuel meeting once in your life, you will be blown away.

  • These races are reallin insane in person. I thought so-so about them until i went with a friend. I nearly shit my pants on the first pass. Its unreal.

  • theres nothin like nhra...you cant tell friends...you just have to be there to feel the rumbling in your body!

  • MAN, years and years ago, when I first heard them seat the clutches & blip that throttle in person, it felt like someone punched me dead in my kidneys, LOL! Now, I love seeing the noobies run and jump during a warmup blip!

  • love the smell of nitro and not being able to breath

  • @85montess100 I know what you mean, I was at the Qualifiers here in Houston yesterday hanging out at Cruz Pendagron's Funny Car Tent. MAN When they started that Engine, First thing was, Man this smells Aweso--OW FUCK MY EYES, Fuck my Throat, Fuck my Nose,

  • I almost cry when I hear these watered down 85% nitro cars. Gone are the days of the true "crackle" cars. Not even close to the same thing. The difference between nitro and gas/alcohol is that you can hear the individual "pops". With unlimited nitro the "POPS" were a LOT louder and a lot more pronounced and crisp. R.I.P. real nitro.

  • 00:23

  • For that split second, you feel like you are about to die.

  • It's overwhelming the first time you are next to it ad it revs.

  • How many times have i seen a fan like that kid jump away in terror when they light it up like that. One of my fav things to do at a race, watch people run in horror.

  • When they went to rev the thing they had to have 2 guys on the back holding it because it has so much torque.

  • Getting ur ear drums blown out is just the 1st STEP of initiation...2nd STEP is getting ur eyes burnt by Nitromethane emissions.

  • yea i think that would scare the crap outta me too

  • how much decibles do these things produce lol

  • @bwarnd351 dik exactly but i would say as much as the ludest 4th of july firework becasue it echos a long time the same way, but its not the sound that does it its the rumble, it feels like an earthquake and will literally move things like cell phones or pop cans and bottles a football field away up in the stands

  • note to self, when you see everyone hold on as tight as possible...be ready

  • i think it gets around 1/60th mile per gallon. about 15 gallons for 1/4 mile. AW all throttle no bottle power love it all the way...

  • lol, i've seen that before when i went to the race in memphis, its funny to watch people scatter from the smell of the fuel, but even funnier when the wanna b hard asses stay around and then get the shit scared out of then when they hit that throttle once

  • @45x45bw Memphis Motorsports Park was sold... Miss it no more racing in Memphis :( Now you gotta go to Holly Springs just to see the GM Super Show, If that's not right I forgot what it's called

  • @shockwaveguitar yeah, it is sad......and its Super Chevy Show

  • @45x45bw Actually they changed the name this year it's not the GM something lol

  • Took my sister and her boyfriend to the Mopar Nats at Bandimere a couple weeks ago-I noticed the crew grabbing onto the cage and knew what was coming. My sister, on the other hand, had no idea what was going on. I'm willing to bet the beer in her keg cup jumped about two feet over her head. Damn near fell on the ground laughing. NHRA Full Throttle Events are, in my opinion, a once in a lifetime event that anyone with even a slight interest in motorsports must attend.

  • Took 4 mates to their 1st drag meet in Sydney recently, had em stand about where the guy in this vid is,when the crew hit the throttle to bed the clutch,2 of em hit the ground, the other 2 jumped 4feet in the air, still cracks me up. Never gets old.

  • Hey Rynburns, You're full of shit. You can not just light nitro on a open surface. The alcohol somebody mixed with it is burning maybe but not the nitro. It has to be a minimum of 98 degress, compressed, and have an ignition source to light. Get your facts straight. I used to do this shit for a living. I retired november of 2008. In fact i'm in this video holding the right side of the cage when the throttle is hit. So yes I know what I'm talking about.

  • @cfaulc im just about 100% positive that you my friend are full of shit. im willing to bet you know absolutely nothing about top fuel, and youre just reading this shit off wikipedia. your not the first one to try to be cool on youtube dude.

  • Comment removed

  • @cfaulc LMAO.......Yeah, I'll bet that's you in the vid....hahahaha

  • Dude, this needs to be on a dyno. Holy fuck

  • Nitro does combust just alot slower than gasoline. It cant burn all the nitro in the cylinder, so when the exhaust valve opens the still burning nitro exits through the header at high rpms.

  • @eflhx Nitro DOESN'T combust slower than gasoline, it a lot faster. That's why they can dump so much of it in the cylinders. Nitro is also an oxygenated fuel, meaning it carries oxygen that also supports combustion. Gasoline burns most efficiently at 14:1 air/fuel mixture. Nitro is less than 2:1 That's why they go through 10 gallons in five seconds. If you tried to dump that much gasoline through an engine, it would literally drown.

  • @zuzupetals1999 Nitro DOES burn slower than gas, UNLESS its combined with air, ignited, and then the oxygen that it creates is compressed into the remaining fuel as it is ignited again...why do you think the cars have two distributors? they need to fire sparkplugs basically all the way from BDC to TDC on the compression stroke..but plain nitro sitting on a tabletop burns pretty slow and fairly cold..

  • @rynburns The laminar combustion rate of nitro is GREATER than gas, and oxygen is NOT a byproduct of combustion. You only get ONE SPARK from each plug during the power stroke and the plugs fire at the same time. They need spark on both sides of the chamber for complete flame propagation. They run very, very rich to keep the engine cool and prevent detonation, just like alcohol. BTW, the intake closes way past BDC on the compressions stroke.

  • @zuzupetals1999~ Wikipedia says its the other way around!

It says the laminar flame speed of Nitromethane is SLOWER than that of Gasoline.

  • @marek0086 "Nitromethane has a laminar combustion velocity of approx. 0.5 m/s, somewhat higher than gasoline, thus making it suitable for high speed engines." This is quoted from Wikipedia. How is that slower?

  • @zuzupetals1999~ 0.5 m/s is slow as!!!

  • Looks like the guys even got earplugs in.We,ve all been there once though, lol.

  • what do you mean we've all been there? it's a pretty dumb idea to not wear earplugs, regardless of how many times you've heard it. I've been to more races than I can count and I still wear plugs.

  • @thing503 OK,good for you,you are awsome,my new hero.I hope to be like you someday.

  • haha, yeah I made a mistake. I thought you were making fun of him for wearing earplugs =p

    my bad dude.

  • Lol oh how weve all been there before.......I remember my uncles taking me to my first drag race and standing me behing Del Worsham's car when they fired him up and me suffocating from the Nitro and then jumping 5 feet in the air when he blipped the throttle.....makes it even funner to laugh at the others when they go thru their first Nitro warm up

  • what the hell are you on about? no gass stuck in the exhaust... its runnin nitro methane... he "blipped" the throttle. the bloke holding onto the wing at the back is to provide added weight so it dont jump off the engine stands...

and YES i have stood next to one when its been blipped... look for my videos and you will see it.

i got another video of it later in the day, but when he blipped the throttle, the vibrations shut down my camera...INCREDIBLE...

  • hahaha ur right mate i dnt think this guys knows wat drag racing is lol, explosion my ass hahhhaha he just revved the beast

  • wtf have you ever been to the drags

  • I miss the smell of nitromethane in the morning.... and that "ahh yes, I'm at the races" feeling in my eyes... AKA OW FUCK!

  • you could do it in a stock gt lol

  • FordZGT Fantic...If you have a Mustang you can already do that with proper planning and budget ;)

  • i wanna put one of these in my mustang and pull up to some ricers who think Japanese cars are the hot shit and just give it a tap of throttle and simply ask if they knew of any supras that would beat me?

  • Haha itd rip the front end off, but i hate ricers!

  • droooool

  • I wish my accord had that kind of throttle response lol

  • thays what i love about going to the drags. to watch people jumping when they hear this for the first time lmao. mmmm the smell of nitromethane

  • why this explosion?

  • what explosion?

  • the crew member tapped the throttle on the dragster. nitromethane is really potent, it combusts with way more power than pump gas. but dont listen to me i dont know anything about dragsters

  • @mikemiddy nitromethane doesn't combust,it explodes.Thats why its so hard on parts and forces teams to rebuild the engine after every run.Ah but you probably already know that eh?I mention it for the benefit of the fellers who don't know what top fuel is about.

  • your right you don't yes it's highly flammable but trust me if it combusted you would know i race a dragster not top fuel too expensive mine runs on methanol

and thats highly flammable too so don't try and tell me i dont know what im talking bout plus iv been racing since i was six and have been going to the drags since i was three

  • HA HA. U can always tell top fuel rookies when it comes time to seat the clutch. LOL Reminds me of my friends girlfriend the first time he brought her with us.

  • I have never jump :(

  • its so funny to watch the people in the pits when they smack the fuel pedal, it looks like someone said 1 2 3 jump.

  • Comment removed

  • such a monster

  • i remember my first time hearing it i jumped 3 times

  • sweet... lol

  • hey ive been involed in drag racing all my life and ill be walking tru the nitro pits and it still gets me jumping at least once every time

  • ha ha nitro virgin those guys are always good for a laugh

  • those engine are insane i was prepared for it and it still scared me shitless i loved it that was a good day

  • yeah hilarious... not

  • haha i remember when i was in the second grade and i had my eyes burned out from the fumes in the air from a dragster warm up

    i cried my brains out

  • that shit will make you jump no matter what lmao

  • Eu não entendi nada do que vocês falaram kkkkkk Abração!!!!!!!

  • man this video was back in the old days when cory wasnt sponsored by don shumacher and his dragster could face everybody! but now because he is sponsored by dsr he has to be turned around!

  • What i would wish is that people would stop making these absurd unknowlegible comments.First off a lot of old time crew guys from the old school don't wear ear or gas mask. Also stop confuseing NOS With Nitro Methane. Nitro is a liquid that is 100%in 55drum. It is then cut with with 10% methanol so that its 90%.They crack the pedals usaully to seat the clutches and floaters. Nos ia a gas almost the same as the laughing gas in your dental chair.

  • see that dude duck!!! haha first time around a drag for shure, he ducked like something blew up!!! That driver tapped the throttle to just under half way for a second. Extreme throttle response on theese race cars there whole throttle set up is precision! So much of there races are won on the launch and reaction time! Anyways that dude got scared an I thought it was way funny!!!

  • is that meant to happen

  • yeah, it wasnt an accident, they did it on perpose

  • thx i had no idea

  • You know...With a estimated 8000 WHP, The shockwave from the amount of torque from those engines has been known to knock cameras from men's hands and knock over children...i love it..

  • Your an idiot.

  • yes that is how top fuel dragsters warm up and the white stuff is not smoke it is alcohol the alcohol the dragsters run on, and being that close it burns your throat and eyes

  • alcohol is what these cars warm up on man.

they start them up on alcohol to warm the motor up then switch to nitro. those fumes are nitro fumes.

  • yeah 150db in that one blip of the throttle doesnt help with the hearing spose good for when the wife is nagging lol....

  • Earplug!!

  • To earplug or not to earplug. That is the question..

  • No earplugs man. If I worked around these cars all the time I would wear ear protection, but since I am only around them once a year I opt to hear them in all their glory.

  • have fun being death at 30 you moron. that is way rtoo many db's too fast

  • I assume you mean deaf, moron.

  • You have to realize that this kind of noise will cause INSTANT, IRREVERSIBLE hearing damage.

  • Thats what ear plugs & ear muffs are for.

  • I was responding to dkickboxer who was saying that he would not use earplugs.

  • What?

  • dude i go every year to englishtown..missed this past year r.i.p scott kalitta but you have no idea how loud it gets when the driver stabs the throttle during a warmup in the pit area..you feel it in your chest!

  • Yeah man, RIP Scott Kalitta, Englishtown needs an upgrade...

  • at full throttle they would have been blown away

  • yea im 13 and when i went i stood rite next to it and got knocked over

  • thats soo bad a**..........

check out how the crew members apply / hold down pressure on the wing support to help hold the BEAST down when they "STAB" the throttle

Nice vid.....thanks man, made my day!

    Ms Lola........out.

  • LOL!!!!!!

  • RIP Scott kallita

  • that scared the crap out of that kid!

  • fuck thats beautiful. sounds like a cougar in the engine on the throttle hit

  • superb comparison

  • that must have been fuckin awesome

  • fuelers are cool man...we got a big event in two weeks ere in the uk...cant wait

  • Same thing happened to me at the races in Topeka, KS. Had no idea these things got so loud. Was standing about 15 feet away with my ears plugged and for a second I was SURE something had blown up. I was shaking afterward. Didn't even bother trying to play it off. Hurt my ears BAD.

  • That's just high revving of the engine.

  • What was that explosion at the end? Freaked the guy out in the video!

  • That was the engine....

  • i would shit my pants when i set that clutch...people claim the drivers eyeballs go flat because of the g-forces

  • Those things are loud when they do that you could fell your shoes shaking

  • yea i have been to them and they will make u jump even though there 100 yards away they make u jump and feels like a small earth quake LOUD!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the way to prepare for it is when you see the crew hold the back you spread your feet and plug your ears. i have been around these dragsters since i was 6 months old! my dad happens to be very good friends with cory.

  • In response to your percent on nitro, NHRA regs. now only allow 95% nitro the rest must be 5% methanol, they put that into effect i think bout 3 years ago. Dont ask me why, but in the old front engine dragsters they still alow 100% nitro

  • No, it's 90% max. It was unlimited for years and years but beginning in 2000 they went to 90% after all the huge engine explosions in '99 (Eddie Hill), and especially Doug Herbert's nuclear kaboom right off the line at the last race of the season at Pomona. After Darrell Russell's death in June 2004 they went to 85% to try to slow the cars down. All it mostly did was beat up cranks and rods and drive up the cost of nitro racing a huge amount.

  • There holding on the wing so it doesn't bounce off the stands LOL

  • when u see guys holding onto the back wing of it then prepare ur self becasue thats a sign of it going to revv'd

  • tpvalley, those are called "butterflies" on the injector. They just use big springs to keep the blades from sticking open. There's different styles of injectors to use depending on what the crewchief likes best. On a Gibson-Miller setup the butterflies are actually mounted right on the blower inlet. Type "gibson-miller injector" into Google and click on the first link, you'll see pics of some different setups including the Gibson-Miller at the very bottom of the page. Max rpm? Roughly 9000 rpm.

  • 9000 for 10 litre engines!!!? insane!

I heard the blocks dont have cooling galleries as they run for short time and need strength?

    Thanks for info.

Although I cant really apply it to my 1.8 litre turbo diesel!!!lol.

  • It's over 9000!!!!!!!

  • LMFAO HAHAHAHAHAHA THATS FUCKING HILAROIUS OMFG i think i pissed myself a bit seeing that

  • Not nice when you get caught off guard by those things!

  • Dont feel bad mate, I've had the shit scared out of me at a much greater distance by those evil machines! They crew should warn you before they do that!

  • Was that a backfire or just a rev?

or was it something to do with the nitrous system, I assume they run NOS with nitromethane and methanol is it?

  • Just a blip of the throttle. Great when they do it twice.

  • Nitrous is not allowed. It's nitromethane with a small percentage of methanol to bring it down to whatever percentage nitro they want to run. Last year 85% was the maximum allowed, this year it's 90% nitro. Many of the crew chiefs are still running close to 85% since they don't have much data on 90% yet.

  • Are the flaps on the openings above blower the throttle flaps?

When one of these idles and the blower is trying to pump huge amounts a massive vacuum must exist upwind of blower before throttle flaps does it?

What max rpm would a topfuel engine do?

  • only prostock runs nitrous thoughs guys run 100%nitro methane and all engine

  • kletkerobert, nitrous is illegal in pro stock and has been for years. I don't where you got your info but it's wrong. VP C25 spec fuel is all that is allowed.

  • i ment prostreet sorry i dont know why i was thinking prostock my bad

  • The Wayne County team of Darrell Alderman and Scott Geoffreon, and Jerry Eckman's team used nitrous in their pro stockers (Although it is illegal, and that is why Eckman doesn't race anymore)

  • you have no life it wasnt that funny :S bla

  • what the fuck got nothing nice to say pal then fuck off

  • He must be a nascar fan.

  • LMAO!!!

  • LMAO!!!

  • uuhhhh... no...

  • Is that street legal ?

  • is that street legal are u retarded what would u do if u seen a car running nitro methane thats about 60 or more feet long cruising down ur main road they wouldnt be cruising thatd be flying down ur main road

  • It couldnt make any turns also...

  • LOL that was good, looked like he was about to hit the deck...

  • poison gas for everyone to smell! yay!

  • Welcome to earth. So since were all going to die anyways... RACE ON!

  • mWaHaHaHa! Smelled plenty of race fuel at the track... I can surely use some more....

  • thnx 4 post'n this cool vid*****there's noth'n

    like a AA-Gaser!08 Summer Natioals,Syd Aust=

BEST TIME OF MY LIFE!!i luv ANDRA!!

  • ain't nothing like a little nitro and the sound of the WHAAP!!!

  • lol..that split second of sound is the best noise u will ever hear.

  • i always prepare myself when i see two crewmen holding down the rear spoiler its a sign that something is going to happened!!!

  • Even if I wasn't a top fuel newbie I'd still jump at that sound every time.

  • Ya i was part of a pit crew for a top fuel harley. I was holding the wheelie bars so it wouldnt fall off, and when they opened it up for a split second i was in the exhaust blast, totally fucked up my eyes and i couldnt stop coughing. Everyone thought it was so damn funny lol, hurt like a bitch!. Thats what you get when your a noob.

  • WHACK!!!

  • Any one want a cigarette? lol boom

  • I love the bit where 2 guys had to hang on to the spoiler to keep the back end of the car on the jacks

  • They have to because in the past they've jumped off of the jackstands.

  • It always cracks me up to see the newbies jump when they blip the throttle. :D

  • hell yeah grumpy... that is one of my biggest reasons for going to the strip! I took my daughter and her boyfriend to the nationals in Columbus 2 years ago and they were hillarious. I'm sure an ol timer was laughing his ass off me my firstr time.

  • when i was at bristol a few years back with my dad...i saw "first timmers" run when the crew seat the clutch...bc thats what they are doing when the open up the throttle linkages and turn the butterflies wide open for a sec. it was great watching them scatter.....ill have to post that footage....great stuff!

  • Haha - great clip! You have to go see this in person to understand how funny it is.

  • Im 14 and i have experienced this and its mad, so loud. When they throttle hit the force just knocks you back its awesome.
