Now, they could be shipped in pieces and assembled on site, but I guess Airbus has determined that it was cheaper to build the Beluga and fly the wings whole than to employ the extra construction workers needed to assemble the wing on site.

Guys, guys, listen: Airbus is the manufacturer, A300-600ST is the name of this special CARGO plane (ST= Super Transporter) . Its also codenamed/nicknamed "Beluga" because it looks like a whale. Its mainly used to transport other Airbus plane-parts from Tolouse (France) to Hamburg (Germany) to assembly.

I know this because i live like two kilometers from the Airbus factory, and dozens of those planes fly right over my house every day. Any further questions?
