  • All the acoustic stuff Billie Joe and Costello did was great but this, unfortunately doesn't work because its's a great song.

  • I miss Billie Joe owning the stage & crowd here :(

  • this is a great performance in my opinion. the keyboard made it sound even better

  • It would of sounded better if the whole band was there and bille was using blue

  • What's wrong with it? I think this is good. It's awesome seeing Billie getting involved with other famous musicians, it proves how liked Green Day are. Yes Tre is like one of the best drummers in the world and he's not there but oh well! Go see them live next time they're touring.

  • This is Elvis Costello, his band, and Billie Joe Armstrong. I think Mr. Armstrong should be honored to play his songs with someone like him.

  • tre has the high energy that this lacked

  • i think billy don' like to play this song without tre and mike

  • will you kids please stop your fucking bitching about tre, if you want to watch him play, watch a video that he's in. this isn't rocket science, people.

  • Porra, será que esse mano aí não pode cantar direito??

  • doesnt even compare to the whole group

  • Damn, it's not the same thing at all without Tré... No drumsticks in the air :-/

  • Elvis Costello is bad =(

  • its weird seein Billie this normal

  • this is good, but i think the original is better =D

  • @lumyingluo definetely

  • awsome as fuck

  • Such a classis song!♥

  • they kinda made it sound poppy instead of punky but its okay

  • I love how Billie Joe sings Mike's vocal in the chorus =)

  • is the pianist playing One Of My Lies during the part where jason usually plays the guitar solo?

  • @dizon96 yeah at 2:10

  • Gran versión

  • @joshuajrhodes Amen, man.

  • Comment removed

  • @1990StJimmy the "drummer" is Pete Thomas, one of the better rock drummers ever. You don't know much

  • this just made my day

  • Wait, where's Tre? NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

  • haha Billie is supposed to play this song with his "Blue" xD but yeah it was Awesome!<3

  • its just so different....but awesome!!!

  • Damn, not the same without Tre drumming but it is cool.

  • Haha. Had no idea I had all these negative responses. My job here is done :) Lord bless you Viizo19. I think we should meet up, talk poetry, take a jaunty stroll and then have babies. Then I'll go kill myself. I stand by my original comment. If you want good pop punk, go listen to 'The Only Ones'. Love the fact you all ignore my opinon that I actually like the song.

  • @DavidMolby LMAO... The Only Ones are fucking boring. Then again, I'm more of a Screeching Weasel guy myself. I do love Green Day, too.

  • With the added instruments like the organ and everything this just sounds so epic :D i love you Green Day, forever and ever and ever<3

  • Not the same without Tre...

  • @MrLax365 you mean mike.

  • @MrLax365 Obviously because Tre's the original drummer. It's not supposed to be the same.

  • @MrLax365 what about mike?

  • lynch the light guy ...

  • @DavidMolby ¿ANOTHER pop punk band? Mate seriously if you consider Green Day "pop punk" go do either 1 of these 2 things (the 2 of them would be just fine): 1. Go get your seriously ignorant and stupid mind treated or 2. Go kill yourself.

  • @Viizo19 Green Day is pop punk bro. There ain't no shame in it. Its pop song structure and pop melodies with power chords. Catchy loud songs full of hooks. You can whistle it while you take a jaunty stroll.

  • @DavidMolby Ever heard of ''Pinhead Gunpowder'' mate ;)?

  • @DavidMolby cmon dude it's music, take it easy

  • @DavidMolby Excuse me, but Green Day is now considered one of the bests bands of the world, and they have earned all their fans. And they are the best live band in the world. If you don't like them, it's ok, don't listen to them, but it's just very stupid to say that it's a shitty pop punk band. If you got all those negative votes, it's for something. Just saying...

Oh! And it's BILLIE JOE not Billie-Joe ;)

  • @DavidMolby lol Elvis is so epic that he loves anything he wants!

  • 2006

  • those keyboards/pianos absolutely butchered the song ugh i couldnt listen

  • @johnnyzoom14 Fuck you, Steve Nieve is fantastic.

  • I wish Steve Nieve would go on tour with Green Day...his keyboards is tailor-made for Billie's songs.

  • I was hoping to hear Elvis Costello take over vocals for a verse or two. I could hardly hear him, if he was singing at all ._.

  • basket case on a les paul??^^

  • I Dont care if he sings with Elvis Costello or with bono

But when it is without Mike and Tre its just isnt the same.

  • his guitar is tuned standard instead of half down so it sounds higher

  • love the song but this version kinda.....SUCKS lmao wit the keyboard and all.....eek

  • @TheAarfan84

you really dont know how 2 make good music :'D

  • @MasterMarf huhh?

  • Whaaa Pressed wrong button first!!

But that's my favourite Song! :)

And not my favourite version of it...

  • i love this version its kind of a more adult green day version like if they wrote the song now and not in the 90s

  • man, that keyboarder is really rockin out!

oh, and the whore is clearly a guy.

  • nothing against Costello but i like Billie's voice better with Bono's

  • billie and his awesome voice

  • costello tiene cara de -" que mierda ago yo aca?!-"

  • costello kills this

like everything else he has ever done

  • @KOOPSAL Good way or bad?

  • and where is mike

    where is tre ?

    where is anibody ?

  • tre needs to be here and so does mikey

  • shit drummer!

    tre cool is 100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000x better

  • is it just me or did they play the song higher than usual??

  • @xXDisappearingGirlXx

yup because the guitars are in standard tuning, when the actual song was recorded half a step down. if you don't know about guitars, you can look it up.

  • @XglobalwoodX

    ok

and i know about guitars^^ i started playing guitar for 5 years..!

  • @xXDisappearingGirlXx

    i stand corrected :D

    just assuming lol

  • @XglobalwoodX okay =D

  • After 16 years I still listen to this song as if it's the first time. I just can't get enough of this melodic explosion. Praise Billy Joe!

  • I miss that billie joe ):

  • this sounds fucking amaizing

  • Is it just me or did the piano solo sound like elevator music? Lol

  • @livemusicrox HAHAHA yes it does

  • Comment removed

  • Can't believe Costello opened for Black Eyed Peas!

This guy is a legend, and they don't even deserve the priveledge to open for him, let alone the other way around.

<3 Billie Joe and Elvis Costello mega amounts :3

  • thats not fair!! where's mike!!!!???

  • I dont think ive ever seen Basket Case played when Billie wasnt using Blue. Looks weird haha

  • @MrGreenDayLive that's not right...some times in the american idiot tour he uses a classic '50 stratocaster....for example in the bullet in a bilble vid or at rock am ring

  • @2buam2 oh ya, i think its just ive never seen him use a gibson playing this song before :)

  • Costello>Armstrong

  • Thats Elvis's band with Billie Joe. Steve Nieve on organ, Pete Thomas on drums --damn good band and a great song. I have a new respect for Green Day.

  • Amazing :)..

  • thts wierd how hes usin his les paul instead of his strat

  • Sounds like they are playing this in standard tuning and not a half step down like it normally is.. cool!!

  • @Ltrain44 yeah they are

  • less green day

    more costello

  • Green Day just gained so much respect from me

  • Different, but cool. Can't go wrong with Elvis Costello.

  • it sounds better with Blue!

  • @NicoGreenDay95 agree!

  • it sounds better with it tuned to e flat and on blue.

  • billie doesn't look 2 happy .. guess he wanted 2 play this song on Blue ..

  • @rhn94

    hes smiling right at 2:48

  • who's on drums? kinda looks like copeland but i know it's probably not.

  • @GenerationPoof That is Pete Thomas. Drummer for The Attractions/Imposters and one of the greatest drummers alive (not a crack at you).

  • idk green day and elvis should do a split EP together.

  • cool but they should have tuned the guitars down

  • He plays the song in standard tune instead of 1/2 step down so the progression would be

    E,B,C#,G#,A,E,B

Thats why he is singing it higher :D

Plus i prefer it when green day plays it because they just rock everything, although this is quite a good version :D

  • That fuckin rocked!

  • Can someone tell me what tuning this is in on guitar? Incredibly low

  • people keep commenting on the keys, well I admit it is different, kinda of makes it sound like an old Costello song than Green Day, I dig it, mmhmm

  • i think he was just in standard and played the chords he usually does in 1/2 down tuning.

  • nice version !

  • wth..so weird......as in the melody...n bj seems high

  • Really cool to have Billie singing with Elvis, Alision and No Action are out there. I like this all except the keyboards, BASKET CASE is NOT a keyboard song.

  • @karenrashkash AGREED xD hahahaha.... It sort of stands out in a non-spectular way :p

  • @karenrashkash, I couldn't agree more! This is like putting some kinda piano solo in American Idiot or Holiday let's say O.o kinda stupid...but I also like Billie singing with Elvis and the rest :)

  • Billie isnt nervous. he couldnt be after hundreds of performances live.

  • i bet he doesn't play with Elvis Costello every night though ;>

  • Doesn't matter how many times you perform, in front of however many people. You will get nervous for every performance. But you'll adjust and have a great time at every show, which is what he's doing here.

  • @VinnyCarluccio of course he could be. you watch interviews from any artist still to this day they get nervous!

  • billie is so nervous!!! hahaha my cute one!

  • @vasorockgirl HE IS? HOW?

  • interesting arrangement

  • haha awesome... this is similar to when metal bands have a backing symphony orchestra

  • Ahhhhhh nooooooooo

  • Do you even know what a harmony is? Cuz Green Day uses them in just about every one of their songs.

  • yeah, but it fits the song and you can only hear it in the background. here its just too much and the rock element of the song has disappeared.

  • all respect to Mr. Costello, but this song is so much better when its just Green Day performing it.

  • You bunch of ignorant arseholes, if it wasn't for artists like Elvis Costello who started the Punk/New Wave movement in the 70's, groups like Green Day wouldn't exist!!

  • mmmm...i agree... i love green day, but i respect their idol's and the legends of rock and punk rock!

  • i love costello too. but i guess it's true this song rocks hella more when it's Green Day. Tre on the drums kills it. this guy ... watered it down. had a different feel. the song is called basket case. but it was still a cool thing to see it played with a bunch of diff musicians. and i have no complaint on costello singing !

  • watered down, geesh dude, this is Pete Thomas, Tre would be nothing like he is if Pete had'nt come along first.

  • Comment removed

  • @Seonsellainen shut the fuck up

  • Did it occur to anyone that the Decades performances were to celebrate performers with different talents, and see what magic might happen if they played together?

no, it doesnt sound like your top 40 radio or cd. appreciate their mutual respect and open your mind... you might enjoy it

  • billie joe dickheads mic is too loud you cant hear elvis costello. especially considering elvis is singing the melody in the chorus. i hate it when sound guys at the professional level mess up

  • WTF Do You Mean ' Billie Joe Dickhead '

  • dude, its billie joes song and elvis is backing .. you may not hear it directly but if ou take i away youd notice :)

  • to reply to everyones negative response, yes i know it is a billie joe song. but if you listen to the chorus on the original recording, Billie sings a different part than he does in this video. Mike Dirnt sings the part that billie is in this video on the recording, while Billie sings what Elvis Costello is singing on the recording. if you think im wrong listen to the last verse that they play in this video. Billie and Elvis sing the same part and it is the meoldy.

  • blue was not his first guitar his mom got it for him from billie's guitar teacher

  • why dont u listen to an interview where he actually says its his first guitar

  • fuck that! this isn't the billie joe i loved and respected any more...

  • Sounds messed up... :(

  • this was awesome. but i'm not gunnu lie, i like the original better. its just not the same. on the plus side Billie looks hot lol :)

  • elvis costello sings the "the"s in it wrong. He sings it with one high note, its supossed to go high then low.

  • @BasketCasegirlintown billie joe sang it different too

  • @greenfelds cause elvis costello was supposed to sing the melody and billie joe sings the harmonies, but i think there was once again tech problems with the mics :/

  • @1039SmthdOutSlpyHrs Not sure Billie wouldn't sing to it, that's just criminal otherwise. But hey you never know :)

  • cool to hear billie singing mike's harmonies

  • awsome

  • He has remakes of blue. He uses them. This is not blue. Blue is blue. With stickers. Blue was billies first guitar. Its a Fernandes Stratocastor. Not a Fender, as is a common mistake.

  • @StJimmy2727 "blue is blue." well-said lol

  • normaly he plays it with blue, I was on there show couple weeks ago and when billie changed his gibson for blue I knew he was going to play the songs I came for

  • that isn't blue you saw. He quited play blue a long time ago. He letted some company make a couple of copies of blue

  • what you see here is the new blue cause old blue died at woodstock but it has the same sound like the original blue only its a better and easier to play for billie because he costomised it

  • He should be using Blue. Plus he's not utilizing those violent strums like he used to.

  • @chabowker i noticed that too. i think he's trying not to show off, to be respectful, you know

  • they sound good with keyboards

  • too bad he played it with his Jr. he should've used blue. it wouldve sounded better

  • i like the original version better

  • Original version ain't that different. In fact I wish Billy Joe just sang the first verse and have Elvis sing the rest of the song.

  • B-I-L-L-I-E spell his name right!

  • I Sooooooo Love Bilie Joe <3 <3 <3

  • I saw Elvis Costello live a few weeks ago :) He opened for the Black Eyed Peas tho. What has this world come to?

  • @headfirst4halos9 what?!?! him opening for that black eyed peas?!?!?! BULLSHIT!

  • @MsJackanape I know! It was one of those huge WTF moments in my life

  • @headfirst4halos9 The last time I saw Elvis someone opened up for him I have no freakin clue how he opened up for the black eyed peas

  • @headfirst4halos9

Let's clarify something - Costello has never opened for the Black Eyed Peas. He did play before them on a few festivals, which is very different and isn't Costello's decision. He did open for other artists though - Dylan and the Police.

  • @Petiber Jazz Aspen Snowmass '09, it happened!

  • @headfirst4halos9 that kinda proves my point, doesn't it? Jazz Aspen Snowmass is a festival. In festivals a lot of different bands are signed and appear in whatever order the organizers want. So if they put BEP above Costello, they're idiots, but it still doesn't mean Costello opened for them. It wasn't a BEP show.

What you say is like saying Willie Nelson opened for Vampire Weekend in Glasto. No, he was simply scheduled to play before they did.

  • @headfirst4halos9 Shouldn't it be like the other way around???

  • @silentcypher Um.... YES!

  • @headfirst4halos9

They have to drag people to hear the Black Eyed Peas so he would be a great hook LOL

  • gary busey on the drums. nice

  • Yeah!! it sounds great!!

  • idk y but billie joe sounds like the killers singing...

and the keyboards arent helping with it either

    but i still like it

  • i agree with kkdd76 like 1000000 % people change and as for green day they kinda have matured.. it would make them look really perverted if they were what 38- 37 years olds singing about masturbtion and stuff i mean i like there old stuff but that was for thier 20s there older now

  • the one and only time he'd play that song on a les paul.
