Long time listener, 1st time commenter :) Everytime I come across this video I stop and listen to it, beginning to end. I never get tired of listening to it. It has a little bit of a Stevie Vai vibe to it as well as a touch of Kansas (yeah, I'm a old dude). Composition A+, Producing A+, Talent A+. The only, and my arm is being twisted, comment if there were to be one is a little more of dynamics might make it even more interesting. Just my 2 cents; not that you need it. Absolutely wonderful job
Dude, this is great man. REALLY nice job. Thanks for taking the time to show us this, and get us a great idea of the possibilities of the HD500. Awesome music man!
@AlofD Thanks.. My tone has much less gain on it than it would appear. If your after a similar tone the answer is to multi track several guitar takes and mix them together. If you listen closely to the main lead guitar line you will hear i'm playing 3 different octaves of the same melody notes and its this that gives the illusion of a big fat singing tone. The presets i make are very simple, I usualy use the angel ball sim through the highway 4x12 cab. hope this helps
Can you please, please help. I cant record anything with cubase 5 using the hd500. I´ve been trying to get it by touching everything and i can´t figure it out. How do you configure the vst connetions? I have asio directx full duplex, cubase 5.1 and hd500 up to date with monkey. Thank you soo much!
@eliasggvv ill help you sort this out its all pretty straight forward stuff but a little confusing if you've not done it before. Can you tell me are you using the pod via usb and do you intend to use the pod as your sound card? If so go to vst devices and select the pod driver instead of asio direct x.
holy fucking shit that was some extra-terrestrial shit!!! absolutely blew me away! makes me wonder how the flying fuck anybody comes up with stuff like this?
Great track. I wanted to ask how you are enjoying that PRS. Is it a custom 24? How would you say the original neck pickup compares to a typical Gibson neck pickup sound? Any help with this would be welcome because I am looking to drop a few grand on a PRS but I don´t know if it´s worth it. Thanks and great playing!
Quick question, maybe a silly one... I've not seen the POD software, but I assumed it was simply an effects/recording suite? Does it also includ the multitrack and mixing capabilities as well? If so, a bargain at it's current price!
I'm starting to record more demos as a I write, so was looking to multitrack bass, guitar and drums - nothing overly fancy. Had assumed I'd need to record bass and guitar separately and then mix in with some other software.
@mrchrisbeaver i have a VOX AD50VT. There are just line phone/ and an external speaker out on the back of the amp. Is there any other way to plug in? Thx for your help :)
@mrchrisbeaver i have a VOX AD50VT. There are just external speaker out and line/phhone on the back. Is there any other way to plug in? Thank you for helping out :)
@IcemanICT with those limited options you'll have no choice but to plug straight from the pods output into your amps front input, In your position i would definitely try one before buying one because i wouldn't be surprised if your amp sounded better than the pod. Think about it this way, you would be putting a modeler through an already modeled clean amp tone in your vox, i cant see that working well but i may be wrong
@mrchrisbeaver acutally im planning on buying a new amp anyway. the vox will just be my practice amp. any suggestions? i need one for live shows and ofcourse the pod got to work on it :)
this really goes to show that amp sims have so much more to them then what people on youtube like to post. with a little work, tlc, and time you can get great sounds. this shit sounds a million times better then half the axe fx videos up on youtube. not that this is better then the axe fx, but people are so quick to judge. unless you are a guitar snob who likes to be combative for no reason, you can not tell he didnt use a head and cab
Hello! i was wondering if is it possible to connect a bluetooth transmiter in the headphone jack of the HD300 and receive the sound on my BT headphones without having any latency or problems... i know this work for use with a PC, youtube audio, windows media, mp3's and so but i don't know if this could work with the HD300 (it doesn't work with software like guitar rig and ik multimedia amplitube due to the latency and the use of asio drivers).
Hi Guys. People have been asking me for months now just how do i record and produce my music. As I don't really have the time to answer most of your questions Ive uploaded a series of videos going over various production methods i use on my channel page
It takes awhile to dial in tones on the pod hd500. You need to do the firmware upgrade to 1.31 and adjust the output settings to match your amp. Then its a little more user friendly.
Because of all the awesome hd500 videos i'm thinking about taking my 7 string and my sansamp out for a walk to a guitar shop to test if it's so awesome. there's lots of tweaking to be done as i've read but i can't start living in a bunker to record my tube amp so this sounds like good deal for home recording!
Hi Im wondering how did you setup this video, like How did you put all the tracks together did you do them all one by one or, please tell me what you did in order to make like this Great video you did..
need the tab. that is all, oh and if I'm using garage band, i just set it to the midi port for POD 500 recording (with it plugged in of course) or is something else?
did you recording the pod via usb direct to your computer or with the balanced audio cables to the sound card?i have the pod hd 300 and i don't know how is better!sorry for my english.
@mrchrisbeaver Nice theme... I want to buy This POD so if you can answer me: The effect you use at 1:24, is that a Whammy (or a similar)? (If it is, E_BAAAAYYYY). Keep posting vids like this - better for Mankind
Expertly done, Chris! I have been tempted to get this new version of the POD (mine is the old xt Live, which I adore, but I sometimes feel it is very limited). Are you using a second expression pedal? Have you compared the HD with older models?
bro, this is sweet! great job! Quick questions, does the POD HD500 have good hi-gain amps? i've only ever owned the bean(pod x3) and wasn't happy with the tones i was getting, i have to buy a metal plug in to get a clear/decent tone it seemed. is it the same case with this one? and what program are you using to record this?
what neck pickup is that? I have an HD500 and it is truly amazing. since getting it i can get pretty much perfect tone without having to mic ANYTHING. its amazing especially when i can just bring it, plug it into a PA, and not drag my 60lbs worth of amp down three flights of stairs for a gig.
@LegendofPerson I own one too and it is actually quite intuitive....the usb connection with the hd500 edit is a seemless way to dial in anything. Make sure you go and download that software....and remember to unplug the usb cable when recording, it has some noise....I hate using the onboard config...
Man! awesome song!!! I usually listen to metal or prog metal, and other stuff too, but man this is great. Thinking in buying the album, us musician should be supporting each other, specially those who put heir heart into their music. Congratulations, and thanks for convince me to buy the Pod HD500, the sound on this song really made me decide to go for it! Thanks again, and all the good luck for the future! Cheers from Chile!
I bought a pod hd 400 some months ago, and it doesn't sound ANYTHING like this xD could you give me some advice on how to set it up to use with headphones and to use it with the amp? i have a Marshall 15w with reverb.
@GuitarDjinn Ive never used the headphones out on it so cant help you there,, if your plugging into the front of an amp it will probably sound quite bad, if your amp has a send return plug the hd straight into RETURN input. that way your amps preamp wont colour the sound . There is nothing special about my presets really, i use just basic settings mainly using the angel ball amp with the 4x12 highway cab, the reason it sounds big on my mixes is there are multiple layers of guitars
Which one is better?, a POD X3 Live or HD500? ...Im planning on buying one... i like to play Megadeth, Hammerfall, Children of Bodom, Stratovarius...which one is better for getting tones for that and for recording Thrash and Power Metal?..
@donnaldinho honestly? That's a matter of taste. You'll be able to create great sounds which are close to the original with both of them. The question then is how your other equip is working with the PODs. My PA is able to power up the tones from the X3 Live (which I do not own no longer) to unknown qualities while the same PA doesn't support the POD HD (which I never owned - just had it for a few days to try it) very well. But as a matter of fact: You should try them both if possible.
@fatfat2001 it depends on what your plugging it into. some amps ive plugged it into sounded terrible no matter how much i tweaked it, I'm getting best results plugging it into a Marshall 9100 power amp it sounds pretty good through that
You should have received the commission made from my purchase of the HD500 today . Excellent work! It is nice to see someone who has real talent demonstrate this unit. Thank you for your hard work.
That looks like Steven Wilson's guitar from Porcupine Tree. Actually, I believe that is the same exact guitar that he used to play back in the "In Absentia" days. Other than that, the POD HD500 sounds pretty good. Can anyone tell me what other pedal would sound just as good or better in the same price range ($500) My main concern is the audio/sound quality of the pedal.
that is awesome, and it is novel ! .. I am really confused for the choice between this HD 500 and Boss GT 10...it make me decide to choose this easier ... but if you have comment or you came across this choice before, then please do so ...
@Taogunner i was just thinking the same.. i don't know what to choose.. ppl say the gt is getting old.. and to be honest, mr. beaver's song sounds so clean , makes me wonder hows it like to use the HD500?
Wow, that and your other song on your site were fantastic!!!! Please tour, please come to the Seattle area and please keep on playing!!!!! Thank you!!! Also, Line 6 says that the HD series have a tube amp "feel." Is that true or is that just Line 6 hype? Still though, it seems like and awesome effects board. Again, thanks for the songs; I'm inspired to pick up my guitar and play!!!!!! (although, not near as well as you do...)
@prgsurf ...it is true...does have tube feel...BUT, i would hasten to add it is more for advanced users to fully exploit...unless u download other users tones. But in the hands of a great guitar player like Beaver, it is also great
man thats awesome¡¡¡,reminds me liquid tension experiment and petrucci´s album suspended animation and like ancient egyptian music, did you study music???
@sim0nst3r thanks,,, Ive had no formal music training, i just play whatever I'm humming in my head at the time and build on it. i haven't heard those two albums you mentioned, ill give em a listen, cheers
@TheLPMr thanks,,,, it has an input for a mic but unfortunately has no bass models. but the bass sounds great running through it with just a bit of compression
@prognosis77 i used a angel f ball pre and angel f ball non pre mixed together and 90% panned both using the highway 4x12 cab. one has a sm57 mic on axis the other uses a condenser
@mrchrisbeaver thanks alot, i will try it out. when I record i just want that studio sound, something with sustain and where you can hear the notes real clear even though distorted. thanks again
Sounds a lot like SymphonyX or Liquid Tension Experiment, I love it! Great playing and mixing. Do you mind sharing what you used to program the drums? Or are these recorded drums? Sounds great!

I bought a pod hd 400 some months ago, and it doesn't sound ANYTHING like this xD could you give me some advice on how to set it up to use with headphones and to use it with the amp? i have a Marshall 15w with reverb.
GuitarDjinn 1 year ago
@GuitarDjinn Ive never used the headphones out on it so cant help you there,, if your plugging into the front of an amp it will probably sound quite bad, if your amp has a send return plug the hd straight into RETURN input. that way your amps preamp wont colour the sound . There is nothing special about my presets really, i use just basic settings mainly using the angel ball amp with the 4x12 highway cab, the reason it sounds big on my mixes is there are multiple layers of guitars

Which one is better?, a POD X3 Live or HD500? ...Im planning on buying one... i like to play Megadeth, Hammerfall, Children of Bodom, Stratovarius...which one is better for getting tones for that and for recording Thrash and Power Metal?..
donnaldinho 1 year ago
@donnaldinho honestly? That's a matter of taste. You'll be able to create great sounds which are close to the original with both of them. The question then is how your other equip is working with the PODs. My PA is able to power up the tones from the X3 Live (which I do not own no longer) to unknown qualities while the same PA doesn't support the POD HD (which I never owned - just had it for a few days to try it) very well. But as a matter of fact: You should try them both if possible.

It's your POD HD 500 made in china or USA??

Is it sound great for Live show??
I'm planning to buy this one.
fatfat2001 1 year ago
@fatfat2001 it depends on what your plugging it into. some amps ive plugged it into sounded terrible no matter how much i tweaked it, I'm getting best results plugging it into a Marshall 9100 power amp it sounds pretty good through that
mrchrisbeaver 1 year ago
You should have received the commission made from my purchase of the HD500 today . Excellent work! It is nice to see someone who has real talent demonstrate this unit. Thank you for your hard work.
guitardigs 1 year ago
@guitardigs many thanks for the kind words,,, BTW i don't and never have worked for line 6 in any way at all,
mrchrisbeaver 1 year ago
That looks like Steven Wilson's guitar from Porcupine Tree. Actually, I believe that is the same exact guitar that he used to play back in the "In Absentia" days. Other than that, the POD HD500 sounds pretty good. Can anyone tell me what other pedal would sound just as good or better in the same price range ($500) My main concern is the audio/sound quality of the pedal.
Cheers!

that is awesome, and it is novel ! .. I am really confused for the choice between this HD 500 and Boss GT 10...it make me decide to choose this easier ... but if you have comment or you came across this choice before, then please do so ...
Taogunner 1 year ago
@Taogunner i was just thinking the same.. i don't know what to choose.. ppl say the gt is getting old.. and to be honest, mr. beaver's song sounds so clean , makes me wonder hows it like to use the HD500?
samguitargod 1 year ago
Wow, that and your other song on your site were fantastic!!!! Please tour, please come to the Seattle area and please keep on playing!!!!! Thank you!!! Also, Line 6 says that the HD series have a tube amp "feel." Is that true or is that just Line 6 hype? Still though, it seems like and awesome effects board. Again, thanks for the songs; I'm inspired to pick up my guitar and play!!!!!! (although, not near as well as you do...)
prgsurf 1 year ago
@prgsurf ...it is true...does have tube feel...BUT, i would hasten to add it is more for advanced users to fully exploit...unless u download other users tones. But in the hands of a great guitar player like Beaver, it is also great

it maybe a stupid question but can i record vocals and bass with the unit exept from guitar?
TheLPMr 1 year ago
@TheLPMr thanks,,,, it has an input for a mic but unfortunately has no bass models. but the bass sounds great running through it with just a bit of compression

is there anyway you tell me what setting u used to get your tones for the rhythm
prognosis77 1 year ago
@prognosis77 i used a angel f ball pre and angel f ball non pre mixed together and 90% panned both using the highway 4x12 cab. one has a sm57 mic on axis the other uses a condenser
mrchrisbeaver 1 year ago
@mrchrisbeaver thanks alot, i will try it out. when I record i just want that studio sound, something with sustain and where you can hear the notes real clear even though distorted. thanks again

Wow amazing!!...I really like it! It reminds me a little bit on Steve Vai's Freak Show Excess. Keep rockin'!
